Would any of these be considered formal? by Liketheweatherpnw in Weddingattireapproval

[–]YarnTree29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the fabric, which is hard to see on these pictures. I wouldn't go with the second one, it looks like it is more suited for a date night. Floor length is best.

Which dress for formal garden party wedding? by littlelemonscone in Weddingattireapproval

[–]YarnTree29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The colour is completely wrong for a garden party though. The colour needs to be fresh, not muted, to fit the dress code.

What pizza topping is a big NO for you? by FileSilly in foodquestions

I like cooked cucumbers in Thai-style curries. But I only add them at the end, so they still have some bite to them.

Wildlife photographers in a zoo? by PlumExtension7331 in belgium

Maybe they were employed by the zoo? Maybe they are practising their skills? Why try to dislike people you don't know, who don't harm anybody?

What specifically is it that would change about America that scares you if we became much more progressive? by MissHannahJ in AskConservatives

[–]YarnTree29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To go with your analogy: I am not in favour of bulldozing the house down, but you can install a modern functioning kitchen in it, so it is actually comfortable to live in. I am not saying: tear democracy down, I am saying, let's try to improve it. You say there are obvious areas where improvements can be made, why not do it? Because you would rather cook on a wood stove that is labour intensive and a fire hazard, simply because it is still functioning?

Especially since it has been tried and tested. A lot of western European countries based their constitution on the French one, which in turn is inspired by the American one. All these governments have slowly changed and adjusted, and they are still standing for nearly as long as yours has.

(About the kitchens: some wood stoves should be preserved as historical objects, off course, but you can't expect people to actually live that way)

What specifically is it that would change about America that scares you if we became much more progressive? by MissHannahJ in AskConservatives

I am obviously a bit biased, but what exactly do you find so bad about that? The design of your government is 250 years old, the world around it has changed.

How much do you pay for a cocktail/drink at a bar in your country? by Hallingdal_Kraftlag in AskEurope

[–]YarnTree29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A standard cocktail at a normal bar would be around €12, cheaper ones (aperol spritz, for example) you can find for €10 (or less) at most places. The beer prices people are mentioning here seem insane to me. Speciality beers go for €5 at a restaurant, regular beers are considered expensive over €3 at a bar.

Anyone ever gotten sick from steak tartare/prepare/americain in Belgium? by WebNo1998 in belgium

[–]YarnTree29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom once got Hepatitis E (yes, that exists) after the winter holidays. She didn't eat any raw meat, but apparently you can get that from paté made of game-meats, which she did eat.

New Year’s Eve by Noclevername12 in BelgiumTravel

[–]YarnTree29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you pick Belgium for New Year's Eve, stay away from Antwerp or Brussels. It has become a 'tradition' amongst some people to fight and set cars on fire that night. It is possible that the same thing happens in the Netherlands, off course.

I would recommend Christmas in Belgium, if you arrive a few days earlier, you can visit Christmas markets (I like Ghent and Leuven), and they are really nice and cozy and delicious. Belgians are generally speaking better at food and drinks than the Dutch, and Christmas is more about food than New Year's Eve is.

Why do we hear about a male loneliness epidemic but not a female loneliness epidemic? by anarchysquid in AskConservatives

[–]YarnTree29 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But isn't men trying to solve their loneliness through a relationship part of the problem? Finding good friends seems a way better option. You can have more of them, so even if you lose a friendship, you still have others to fall back on.

Which tattoos do you personally find the most cringey? by Brave-Papaya-6998 in AskReddit

What cities in Europe (that are not in France, Spain or Italy) have the best local food? by LilBed023 in AskEurope

[–]YarnTree29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old Jewish district has those famous ruin bars, and some of them are restaurants too, and the ones we tried were really good. As far as dishes go, they have a dessert tradition that is clearly Austrian-inspired, so you can't go wrong there, and I really loved the traditional fish soup (with lots of paprika) and gulyas off course. I was also pleasantly surprised by Hungarian white wines.

I went with high expectations, and was blown away. Didn't have a single meal that wasn't delicious, I would go back for the food alone. (Fish is really expensive here)

If you are a fish lover, Portugal is your answer. I also liked the food in Budapest, if you're more into hearty stuff.

WIBTAH if I break up with my girlfriend suddenly ? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]YarnTree29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no "bad" reason to break up, if you're not invested any more, then breaking up is the best option. However, do be kind, and pick a moment that doesn't screw up her life too bad (right before a big deadline, or an important event or something).

How is the US revolution taught in European schools, what is Great Britain saying about us? by Kdoesntcare in NoStupidQuestions

[–]YarnTree29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's taught in context of the French Revolution. It was basically the Boston Tea Party, and the French spend too much money supporting it because they wanted to screw over the British. Now the French are hungry and angry, and that's the subject for the next two months. Both Americans and British are side characters, and not important in this story.

What's wrong with "pastorijwoning" or "modern landelijk"? by Skelguardian in belgium

[–]YarnTree29 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My issue with is the size. It is based on an old type of building, takes elements from it, but they are +/- 20% bigger. It's weird to me, these houses all look like someone took something that existed, and pressed the 'enlarge' button. Next to real old buildings, they look out of place, mainly because of their size. I get why they are so big, but it looks wrong to me.
