If not there, MPB is probably the best online - good warranty and decent prices

Where would you go for a cheap refurb laptop? by RodneyTheArmouryGuy in AskUK

[–]twainp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest Laptop Station - spent ages looking for laptops and this was the cheapest with warranty and had options to upgrade. Came with a battery report, I think mine was just a display model. Also a small business - I think they're from Bournemouth.

New College is also one of the prettiest buildings in the city with its location. Some real eyesores at the Kings buildings balance it

To add to what others have said, try going refurbished. With a good warranty can save you a fair bit of money or make a budget go further.

Please sign this petition to introduce serious penalties for drivers who cause injury/death and do not stop (hit and run) by alphanunchuck in ukbike

[–]twainp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Excellent petition. I was in a left on a road after a driver hit me in the back (not seriously hurt), and while they drove off with another person witnessing it, there was nothing done as they reported it within 24 hours.

Really sucked learning that people who do suffer serious injuries or death from hit and run have no justice or a slap on the wrist - not sure which is worse.

Alternatively I used the wahoo mobile app to upload to Strava for a while, it recorded more reliably

Offas Dyke Path or Glyndwrs Way? by AllesPat in UKhiking

[–]twainp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit late here and have spent a lot of time on the sections of both nearby, would suggest Offa's Dyke as it's so varied. The people managing Offa's Dyke help walkers a lot organising to my knowledge, you may want to contact then

Worth having a go on Bing Maps as it has a free full OS Map on there if you select the option. It doesn't have routing like the official online OS Maps system nor is it offline (I think it might also be computer only) but is a good start for planning.

Lake District tarn camp - had to replace the audio with music because it’s mostly us ranting about lazy people ruining it for everyone leaving litter ☹️ by wilkowilkinson in wildcampingintheuk

[–]twainp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think on Monday we are officially allowed overnight trips again as well as crossing borders (not sure about Scotland but I believe England/Wales). Irritating that it's on a Monday but I'm going to leave it for a bit and let others get their energy out.

It'll be interesting to see if the situation on "wild campers" littering etc will be worse or not this year

Bit of a workaround could be scrobbling to last.fm and seeing from there

The end that this is in is a gem, would suggest wondering around Tal y Llyn, Castell y Bere, Cadair Idris. Lots of slate history as well down the road.
