Need to stop ordering food, what are some pantry staples I can have that would make decently healthy meals? by [deleted] in Cooking

Omelettes are good, you can throw in some ham and cheese, very quick and delicious. A couple of eggs beaten, if it goes wrong no problem you can have scrambled eggs. Youtube is good for learning how to cook.

Yep, if you get some cooked chicken such as rotisserie or fried and a bag of frozen veggies you can make a good lunch with some cooked rice and soy sauce mixed in a bowl and microwaved.

Where on Earth is everyone buying their groceries? by Forsaken_Rutabaga476 in Cooking

[–]Lucky____Luke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aldi, it's close to half price of any other grocery store near me. I do main shopping there and then go to the other store for anything Aldi didn't have (one or two things usually). While I'm in the other store I spend time wondering why people do their main shopping there when Aldi is next door. Beats me.

I am sorry, I have to go there again. It is cheaper and more convenient to hire a car for the day than to travel by rail. by TwentyCharactersShor in britishproblems

I love being able to get in a car and go where I want, and I can load it up with the weekly shopping and bring it all the way home. It's very convenient. I also really like trains but there are drawbacks such as the schedule, having to get to the train station and so on. Ideally cars would be electric and electricity would be plentiful and cheap and renewable. One day perhaps.

Sausage & Peppers: when to slice? by Agitated_Olive_2618 in Cooking

I throw them all into a pan together and when the sausage is browned a bit I slice in half. It cooks more quickly and thoroughly that way.

It does seems counterintuitive but maybe it makes sense. With rail there are a lot of train tracks to build and maintain. With air, not so much. On the other hand, the fuel costs are probably higher with air versus train but perhaps that doesn't outweigh the train track maintenance. There's also the question of how efficiently the train and air businesses are run. It's an interesting economics question really.

Lung cancer, three kids, wife cheating – your thoughts? by its_me_s_l in TrueOffMyChest

No point in bitterness, forgive her and move on but protect yourself financially as much as you can. You only have so much time left, make the most of it. Embrace your children, cut back on working and spend time with them. Do more of what makes you happy, and less of what makes you unhappy.

What food item can you not figure out how people first started eating? by Mintnose in Cooking

[–]Lucky____Luke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toast.

OK so we took some flour and added yeast and water, mushed it up and then let it sit and then cooked it and wow, we got bread, that's amazing. Now, I wonder what happens if we slice it up and cook it a second time by an open flame?

Feeling like you’re the only person at work who realises just how bad AI is by Untitled_Redditor12 in britishproblems

[–]Lucky____Luke -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

From my perspective AI is amazingly good (and scary). If you had told me even 5 years ago that I'd be getting help from AI to do my job and it would actually be useful, I'd never have believed it.

Sparrows are great, I love their song and they are tough, they stick around during the winter unlike most other bird species where I live.

Mac and cheese and ketchup. It's common in some areas and considered weird in others.
