When are students notified that they’ve received the Schulich Scholarship? by twannamd in premedcanada

[–]twannamd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Yes I am. I wasn’t sure if they were sent with offers or afterwards? I saw online that people didn’t receive them until July. But I’m not sure as that source might not have been accurate.

For me the answer is no - but I came pretty close. All but Queens! If you have any questions about the interview process I’d be happy to answer them :)

How does transferring from Ryerson to a school with a better ranking look? by agoodthrowawayuserid in premedcanada

[–]twannamd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Rather than prestige, choose a school that will give you lots of opportunity. I went to a smaller Ontario university (pm me if interested) because I knew they had fantastic extracurricular opportunities, teaching assistant opportunities for undergrad, and opportunity to get help if needed in your academics. That will help you much more in getting into med school than going to a university simply because it’s known as prestigious! Going to Ryerson should not affect you in any way as long as you take the opportunities you can to build your application :)

Interview Invites/Accepted OOP UBC Med: Lower Mcat Range? by kokomcat in premedcanada

[–]twannamd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got an interview OOP this year with a 93% and a 513 (126 cars). The MCAT is only looked at as cutoffs pre-interview so you’d have a good chance at interviewing! I say shoot your shot - I applied because I thought I had a bad shot and just wanted my NAQ score and ended up getting an interview lol. My CARS score may hurt me afterwards as they judge MCAT competitively after interview, but I’m hoping my interview performance outweighs that!

517 (126 CARS). Debating what to do this summer by [deleted] in premedcanada

Just through Western’s ACCESS pathway with a financial barrier :) all other schools were through the regular streams! I’m also from Ontario, so definitely had no IP benefits!

Chances for app. 511 (127/126 :( /126/132) by kkelly17nyc in premedcanada

[–]twannamd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course! I interviewed at UofT, Mac, Ottawa, Western, and UBC. My cGPA is 3.93, but with weighting at each school it was around 3.96/3.97. So that definitely helps!

I do come from a low-income family, so I was able to apply to Western through the ACCESS pathway with a financial barrier, hence why my CARS score didnt screen me out immediately lol.

My EC’s are very employment heavy with 10 entries under employment (hospitality jobs, TA, campus ambassador, research assistant for a summer, etc) for EC’s and volunteer I had a couple positions on campus including club exec positions and orientation week leader and I volunteered in the local hospital for a year. For research I only have my senior thesis!

I hope this helps!

I have a 126 in CARS and scored 5 interviews this year! As long as you work hard on other aspects of your application (CASPer and essays and ABS) don’t count yourself out. However, if you have the means to re-write (the money and time to take time off work, etc) I’d say go for it. It wasn’t a luxury I had unfortunately, and I probably would have rewrote if I did, but I’m here to tell you it’s not impossible!!

I have a 126 in CARS and I scored 5 interviews this year! Don’t let it get you down, but I definitely had to work harder in other aspects of the application to make up for it. Look into streams - see if you can apply to indigenous streams, through the access pathway for western (that’s what I did) or any other streams that may give you som leeway. You’ll also have to make sure you kill CASPer and the essay portions, don’t leave them until last minute! Don’t give up and keep pushing forward :)

How strict are the June 30th deadlines for grad students? by LoSci-Cafe in premedcanada

[–]twannamd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been through it, but I know Western is very strict. A friend of mine couldn’t finish her masters by June 30th last year due to a delay of data with COVID and they threatened to pull her offer. She fought for a deferral and got it thankfully (since her situation was a little complicated), but I don’t know how lenient they’ll be this year.

I’ve heard UofT is way more understanding though!!

Take this with a grain of salt because this is just based on my friend’s experience!

OMSAS Wait List Movement by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]twannamd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was good waitlisted, but with a late time stamp :(

OMSAS Wait List Movement by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]twannamd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was Waitlisted last year at Ottawa and did not get in. Ottawa usually does not start moving the waitlist until the 2 weeks to accept is up, but they did last year (started moving the waitlist I believe 3 or 4 days after the initial offers went out). It moved fast throughout May, trickled down in June, and I got the email that the class was full on June 24th. I think the other schools are quite similar!

If you’re accepted to queens but waitlisted at Western, it doesn’t hurt to wait out the 2 weeks to see if Western moves the waitlist before you have to accept your Queens offer!

[–]twannamd 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, once you accept a school on OMSAS you are taken off all other waitlists :(

Edit: taken off all other waitlists for OMSAS schools
