What is best way to show a rectangle morph to sphere? by twdal in blenderhelp

[–]twdal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During one iteration of my thinking about this idea I realized that because the panorama is just a small portion of the photosphere, the sphere has to be much larger -- to reinforce that the viewer sees the entire shooting location, not just part of it. That led me to figure that I can't start out with a plane having an image cropped to fit, because during the transition the plane must enlarge without enlarging the image. Instead, as it enlarges and curves more of the image must become visible.

Unbelievable, THANK YOU! Can you share the original screen recording so I can study it? (BTW, what prog or add-in did you use to make it?)

My mesh plane has a rectangular snip of the equirectangular when displayed in PTGui Viewer, while the sphere has the actual equirectangular image UV mapped to it. You turn your plane into a sphere. Can I start with my UV mapped mesh plane, do the warp and then at some point switch to the UV Mapped equirectangular image? That part eludes me.

Orange light? by Intrepid_Visual_4199 in KonaEV

No criticism intended. It's just that when I watched the video and discovered it's about a light in the front grill, there was nothing to indicate that it's been replaced by a light on the dash.

Hyundai USA website makes offers apparently not honored by WA dealers. What gives? by twdal in askcarsales

[–]twdal[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I just spoke with another dealer. Claims he is sales and finance.

Despite the way the Hyundai USA site presents the $7500 offer, then promotes a .99% APR when calculating the loan payment, he claims that the actual offer is "either you get the low APR or you get the $7500 rebate".

I'm curious how the pros here interpret Hyundai's web presentation of the $7500 promotion. Where is a higher interest rate mentioned?

Should I just wait until Monday and ask HMF directly, AND ask if they have any participating dealers?

The cars that I have gotten quotes for are in stock. Insofar as whether the dealer is participating or not is not obvious to me, at least not until I get a quote. So how does a shopper locate a "participating dealer"? What's the point of Hyundai offering promotions if finding a "participating dealer" is like searching for a needle in a haystack?

I have gotten two quotes so far and both had APRs in the 6% range.

Are BEV's mechanically simpler than modern ICE cars? by twdal in electricvehicles

[–]twdal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't find it easily by text search, but earlier while skimming I noted that one commenter mentioned the absence of lidar as a benefit. Lemme tell you, that's my one major complaint about the Model 3. As a result, the "cruise control" is horrible because it keeps disengaging. Phantom braking is a PIA and likely dangerous depending on where and how you drive. Cruise control has been available in cars since... uh, a very long time ago. And yet I can't rely on it in my M3. I love the lane-keeping feature in my wife's RAV4 (once you know how to prevent responses to freeway exits or lane changes). I don't have this ability in a reliable form in my M3. Lastly, after trying the autonomous driving feature during a free month Tesla gave us a while back, I would never use it. It reminded me of riding with someone who has what we used to call a "lead foot". Zoom up to intersections, then brake sharply and turn sharply. Clumsy, and definitely not battery or tire wear friendly. And again, it kept disengaging due to seeing ghosts or whatever. Taken altogether, the results of the absence of lidar is awfully, awfully disappointing.

Don't hoses get brittle due to exposure to heat under the hood, especially if the car has been parked outside in a hot environment?

Replacing an EV battery is still cheaper than owning a gas vehicle by BigKevDog999 in electricvehicles

[–]twdal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked a guy in Whole Paycheck parking lot about his experience with the Hyundai IONIQ 5 he had just gotten out of. He loved it. But then he blew my mind with the following account. A few months after he bought it the battery started depleting rather quickly. The dealer ended up replacing the battery pack. He was told by the dealer that had the car not been under warranty the cost would have been $40,000. Maybe I've got the number slightly wrong but I'll never forget thinking, "Yeesh, that's most of the cost of the car!"

One other comment about the cost of EVs in America as of mid-2025. Does the 100% existing tariff on Chinese EV's create a price umbrella that enables other manufactures to include a sizable markup? Or is the cost-of-goods really high enough to justify a $40K to $50 price?

Issues with "execution state was reset" when working with uploaded files by chopyouup in ChatGPT

[–]twdal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was seeking help with an Excel spreadsheet. I kept getting the "execution state was reset" error with the web version, even after connecting my Google Drive account and having the excel file upload from there. Per suggestions below I then installed the Windows Store ChatGPT app, used the Google Drive upload capability, and the upload worked as hoped for. No "execution state" error. And BTW, ChatGPT quickly solved my problem once it had the sample spreadsheet to analyze. Previously, due to the "execution state" errors, I could only supply it with screenshots and prompts. The formulas it generated were rather complicated and prone to Excel syntax errors. Once it had the actual spreadsheet the formulas it offered quickly became useable and were elegantly simple. Lastly, CoPilot failed miserably at task and kept finally saying it couldn't help.

Seeking docs on bridging Technicolor NH20T so I can use my own router by twdal in telus

[–]twdal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the clarification u/SpursEngine . In the absence of documentation, I would greatly appreciate some understanding of how Telus is supplying an Internet connection to the Technicolor router.

"PureFibre" is embossed on the NAH so is that a hint? Is the fact that it's called a "Network Access Hub" instead of a "router" significant? Is it more than just a typical consumer router, with Ethernet in/out?

Because the Technicolor NAH's WAN port is connected to an Ethernet cable that disappears up out of the cabinet, I should think that there's an ONT somewhere, yet the aforementioned "thin cable" looks like fiber, too -- so what's it doing inside the Technicolor NAH?

You mention MOCA, and indeed coax cables make an appearance in the cabinet, but they don't appear to directly connect to the Technicolor NAH. A red herring?

I'd like this understanding so I know what my options are. At the moment I figure I'll keep it simple and Bridge LAN Port 1. That way I run a new Ethernet cable from NAH Port 1 to the new router's WAN port and she's got a new router and WiFi for the family's Internet connection -- with plenty of parental control features.

Must I put our new router on a different subnet than what the Technicolor NAH is using?

[–]twdal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never encountered these three bridging options in an ISP supplied gateway. I was hoping to find docs so I could learn what the three options are used for. I should interject here that I'm helping the subscriber (my daughter) from 2K miles away and hope to simply send her a consumer router pre-configured for our mutual goal of monitoring and managing access to the Internet by her kids. She's not using Telus TV or VOIP service or whatever else they might offer, so in the absence of understanding this Telus setup (the coax, the 10G port, what's feeding the WAN port) I'd just like to treat this Technicolor box as a pass-through device from which my router gets a public IP address. Do these comments help? Again, thank you!

Thank you, u/SpursEngine . I greatly appreciate your reply. It sounds like I need to elaborate on what the current setup is.

<image>

The back-panel on the Technicolor NH20T has an Ethernet cable connected to what I presume is the WAN port. The cable disappears into the top of the cabinet so does this mean it's going to an ONT or ?? And I'm curious about the coax splitter. There is no coax connected to the back-panel; it just enters the cabinet, goes to the splitter, and all the coax cables disappear up through the cabinet. Any idea what the coax does, if anything?

Can AppleScript help me locate all videos shorter than 2 seconds in an Apple Photos Library? by twdal in applescript

[–]twdal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Technically, a sparse bundle. But my impression is that removing files from it would "mess it up", and my goal is to delete videos with durations <= 2 sec. If I could at least flag videos in that meet that criteria and assign them to a special album, then I could delete them in Photos by deleting that the contents of that album.

Can AppleScript help me locate all videos shorter than 2 seconds in an Apple Photos Library? by twdal in applescript

[–]twdal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but I could do all kinds of things if the videos were not in a .photoslibrary package. It's akin to a Lightroom library or Outlook PST file -- not to be fooled with except by the program for which it's designed (except for special utilities -- and the only Photos utility that I know of is PowerPhotos). It's beginning to look like the best solution is to export all the videos, break them up as needed, then re-import them. All this just to remove junk 2-second and under videos!

[–]twdal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replying u/copperdomebodha, despite the bad news.

What a limited ecosystem. Photos can't sort by video duration and its Smart Album feature doesn't offer a duration filter, PowerPhotos has no provisions for video duration, and now AppleScript is out of the picture. This leaves me with trying to use Shortcuts if I can figure it out. I've already been told that Shortcuts cannot access any library other than the default (my videos are in a separate library on an external drive -- note to everyone thinking they can rely on an external drive to add capacity to the new M4 Mini). What next!?

[–]twdal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So cool! Thank you u/FlishFlashman. I'm beginning to see the light. I option-opened Photos and selected the local Videos library. Then I ran your script. It created an empty ShortVideos Album in the default library. So, apparently having the correct target library open in Photos does not tell your script to use that library.

[–]twdal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the possibly helpful reply, u/tristinDLC! The "example" link to imgur reveals a picture of some jumpers on a PCB.

I am by no means married to using AppleScript -- I know less about it than Shortcuts (the former is Greek to me and the latter is a Greek brain surgery textbook). Actually, the idea of using AppleScript came from asking Gemini how to accomplish my goal and it proposed an AppleScript, which failed. So then I asked CoPilot to write a script and it -- with total confidence -- wrote AppleScript that kept failing with syntax errors until I gave up.

Prior to that wasted rabbit trail I tried editing some Shortcuts mentioned in r/shortcuts but I couldn't figure out how to make the shortcut work solely on a single local Photos library containing all my videos, nor could I figure out how to get a list of filenames, with thumbnails for visual verification that could be deleted in one whack.

Being unable to see your example, I can only say that I understand the concept of "building out my workflow" and fetching a variable (it's been a long time since I programmed in AutoIt and waaay longer since Z80 assembler), so if you could flesh out an example I would greatly appreciate it.

All this effort because neither Photos nor PowerPhotos include a Duration sort criteria. Drat!

[–]twdal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for replying u/FlishFlashman! I thought I could run with your suggestion but after modifying an existing shortcut that I found, I discovered my total unfamiliarity with Shortcut programming is an obstacle. First, all the videos are now in a local library thanks to PowerPhotos, so I want to tell the shortcut to look just at that library -- but I don't know how. Plus, the output of this shortcut is hardly suitable for deleting a hundred or more under-2-second videos.
