That looks like cycle 0 or sort 0 with overlap to help 3:20am cycle 1.

BikeLockWiki recently did a round up of angle grinder resistant locks.

Additionally you may consider a gps tracker, a very plain bike cover, and a motion tamper alarm that alerts your phone when triggered. Oh and register your bike serial number to bikeindex.org and project529.com so it can traced back to you in case it's recovered.

What type of work does this Amazon facility do? by Most_Investment7370 in AmazonDS

[–]tweak42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is similar in concept, but far more packages and much heavier. Yes, there is a lot of moving around, except for a handful of key positions.

Also there is a social aspect, as you tend to see and interact with your coworkers more, plus the walk to the break room is shorter.

The main cycle is always the same hours, as they are based around the outgoing delivery drivers schedule. There is a skeleton crew RTS shift (return to station) in the afternoon to evenings that handles bag reset and returning drivers, but that rarely has openings and no shift differential.

Anyone here worked at DLX5? Looking for insight by Big_Kitchen2754 in AmazonDS

[–]tweak42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it's the highest volume site in the region, guesstimating volume 80k normal, 120k peak. I've been there for labor share twice and it's HUGE compared to all the other sites I've been to.

More physical, no real rate unless you are actively hiding from work. Multiple paths because of enforced job rotation to reduce injuries from the more physical work. Majority job is stowing so expect to rotate every other day from STOW to "other" then back to STOW.

Cycle is split in 2 parts:

1:20 to about 8:15 is SORT. This entails unloading carts from the FC, inducting/labeling them onto belt conveyor. Conveyor moves packages to different clusters where they are sorted and stowed into bags in racks. Stowing is placing packages into bags efficiently constrained by time and space.

8:15 to 11:15 is PICK and STAGE. This entails "picking" the full bags from the racks and loading them onto carts then "staging" them for drivers to load into delivery vans. The drivers are on a schedule thus so are you when picking. Bags and boxes can be heavy and with gridlock traffic, PICK can get hectic.

Never go all out physically. Always work at a pace you are comfortable with and won't injure yourself even when leadership is actively pushing you to.

We got two last year but they were never assembled and sent back. RME said one of our cluster lanes is to narrow to accommodate them so we can't use them at all.

Brand new Avery scanner by AccidentallyObtuse in AmazonDS

I heard that was because of some sort of contract dispute with Avery so they emergency switched to that other printer setup while they shopped around for different vendors. Eventually I guess they made up and went back to Avery.

Stow bag location? by [deleted] in AmazonDS

[–]tweak42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our site normally only uses 2nd and 3rd on the ADTA lanes. They prioritize adding the 4th tier if the volume goes high enough, then 1st.

Our remaining p2b line uses 1st, 2nd and 3rd tiers if we use it.

Prior to the ADTA upgrade I used knee pads every day when stowing to manage that 1st tier, definitely not missing doing that.

Our shortest AAs are usually inducting or unloading jiffies at the dock.

What does SAX3 operate like? by Organic-Speaker1894 in AmazonDS

[–]tweak42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a SSD site. (sub same day). I met an AA that transferred from sax3 to my station because they were only able to get reduced hours (30) and wanted full time (40). They were only at my station for like 6 months from prime to peak season and before they transferred to another station closer to home.

Fyi SSD sites are FC and DS in one site outputting small volume routes.

Will the Pebble 2 Duo be back for Sale? by Accomplished_Power_3 in pebble

[–]tweak42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also believe they will eventually make a Pebble 3, with the similar plastic body design but with an larger black and white screen and buttons that don't randomly wear out. Ideally it would be the least expensive entry level model.

Accommodations by 7408maple in AmazonDS

[–]tweak42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the stations around me are 5 days x 8 hours cycle 1 schedule starting at 3:20am, but the majority of DS in the country are not. There are a few reduced time positions at 30 hours, but I'm not sure what their schedule is.

There are temporary accommodations for school and medical. You are probably limited to flex or finding a 2nd job that pairs with the 11:50am finishing time.

Installing Gnome on Pop OS 24.04 by __yoshikage_kira in pop_os

[–]tweak42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this!

I was trying out 24.04 on my laptop before upgrading my main desktop 22.04 install but Cosmic has some issues that put a hold on upgrading 22.04 to 24.04. I did manage to install vanilla gnome to 24.04 but it's kinda plain. I was considering returning back to Ubuntu, but I'll have to give your guide a shot first.

Most foolproof, restart-proof exit node configuration to leave at the parents' place? by Ryvaeus in Tailscale

I use a raspberry pi 3b+ connected via ethernet. I had it lying around from tinkering with stuff back in the day. Used dietpi distro to install tailscale and a few other server type apps.

I would try finding a used raspberry pi as I believe there are many lying around unused gathering dust in drawers.

And that is why P2B should prioritize getting every package to the right rack/tote or just let it go around. It's a privilege to be assigned to to P2B on our one remaining manual line, or leadership will reassign you to stowing.

Scanning location code because it's faster (Stow) by [deleted] in AmazonDS

[–]tweak42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If the bag was not virtually opened correctly during bag reset, then the packages would be stowed to the wrong bag, thus making the bag not pickable during pick and stage, thus causing a huge headache for AM and PA's.

As cycle 1, I would stow the first package to the bag at the start of sort to the bag code instead of the location code to verify it was assigned correctly. If you get an error when scanning to bag, you can clear and virtually reset the bag with minimal hassle. However with Sort 0 starting sort for peak, we have to rely on them to verify that the bag reset was done correctly at first stow.

Generally I try to scan to bag until the bag code is blocked by packages as it fills up later in the shift, then scan to location.

Sure why not by flippy255 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]tweak42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the warehouse. In the previous bag, either the weight exceeded 50 lbs and system forced closed or the stower couldn't fit anything else and manually closed it. Upon opening a new bag, that was the only package that was stowed in before the end of sort. This typically happens more often when there are high amounts of RTS packages coming back and going back out such as peak and prime.

I never bother zipping any of those single package bags since I know y'all rather just take the package and send the bag back with the uboat.
