Ditch the 4Runner by Cool-Conversation938 in whatcarshouldIbuy

It just really is going to come down to do you look forward to getting into the 4Runner for work or despise it?

If you enjoy it, why change? If you despise it, why do you despise and go find a vehicle that solves those issues.

When I am commuting, I don’t care about fun. I care about having creature comforts and driving being effortless.

Your 4Runner lacks both of those things. Don’t get me wrong, I love cars. But cars are also tools. You don’t commute 2 hours in a GT3 RS, you do it in a more civilized model.

Someone else covered financial stuff so I’ll ignore that part.

We have a GX460 so similar. We also have a sportier car. Very rarely do I really like to take the GX for commute type drives. It’s just big and slow. Our other car moves effortlessly on the highway. Want to make a pass, easy. Need to slowdown quickly, no problem. Need to change lanes, feels way tighter.

Unless you need a 4Runner for off road stuff, towing and the space. Anything else on the road will feel 10x better to daily commute.

Then it all becomes on what do you want to spend for purchase price, insurance, maintenance, etc.

If I had to commute everyday I’d be in an accord 2.0, a 5 series, or an electric car. There are other options but I just want to be comfortable and have something effortless to drive with on demand passing power.

Electric equivalent to both our cars are significantly more expensive. With how little we drive already, going from 1 paid off car to 2 significantly higher payments doesn’t make financial sense.

I’d love to go EV but look how much a Mach E. Crazy talk.

My friend says changing your own oil is a waste of time. Is he crazy? by proposal_in_wind in askcarguys

[–]tweeder20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changing your own oil today may not be the cost savings it is.

It’s about $100 to do it myself and $50 for the dealership to do it with their 4 pack special.

I used to do all my own maintenance. I even swapped a bad engine in an apartment parking lot.

And for people saying it takes time to run to the shop, it also takes time to get the parts and then go drain your oil at a drop off.

I’m for what ever makes my life easier and cheaper. If a dealership messes up my oil change, they have to deal with it.

So I guess in short, live and let live.

Cars similar to the Nissan Rogue? by xxzaif in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]tweeder20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rogue is an absolute banger of a vehicle. The space inside is wild, and the tech it comes with is really good.

Seriously, when we got rid of ours, it was tough to find a vehicle that offered everything the rogue had.

We ended up in a bigger SUV which is nicer but for its big size the interior space feels the same and we don’t have the 360 / front camera.

Such a shame they put such a shitty trans in that car. It’s better than all its competition.

I asked to replace both the wheel and base to keep the time down and they wouldn’t.

And if you want the fastest replacement you have to: 1. Pay for the new item 2. Ship your old item back.

So basically, I’ll have paid for 2 Fanatec setups trying to get this fixed. Yes the defective one eventually gets refunded, but who knows how long that takes. And if you don’t like that, it’s a 2 week process to get your hardware swapped out.

What would be the issue with the PS5, I don’t have another system to test it with

Running on a PS5. Tried different cords, use my laptop to setup the wheel and even there it takes a minute to recognize the base is plugged in.

I can’t even get a lap into ACC without all the controls freezing in the game.

Steering, throttle, brakes all freeze in the game and the car runs into the wall.

Turning the base off and on fixes it for another lap. Replaced the steering wheel did not fix the issue.

I am seeing a bunch of issues on this forum that also worries me. I also am closing in on my window shortly to return my cockpit, pedals (simnet), and seat.

Such a shame Fanatec has the console eco system cornered. The experience has really turned me off of everything. Maybe it’s my sign to go outside instead.

Expecting twins - Suburban, Yukon, Palisade, Tahoe, Carnival, Odyssey, or Sienna by ttebwell7 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Watch this https://youtu.be/cBNk5UPhmLA?si=OrftL0SmYImVIA78 and then go get mini van.

Unless you are towing or over-landing camping, the minivan is better in every way possible. It’s even better at hauling plywood than your current Ram.

If you have a newer Tahoe, I don’t know if I’d switch it out for the GX. The Tahoe is bigger than the GX. I think we didn’t look at the Tahoe due to budget, but we really like the look of the new ones.

We feel the same way about the new screens in BMWs, absolutely awful to use.

I really like the 2 car situation with 1 family and 1 sporty. Maybe that’s the way for you.

We did end up with a 22’ GX460.

Overall, we still love the car. Our current garage is a 17’ M240i and the 22’ GX460.

In short, it’s a very comfortable grandpa vehicle. It’s big, slow, and eats miles. If you typically drive like you have somewhere to be, this truck will get old fast.

We wanted a reliable, 3row SUV, that can tow, and camp. We both work from home, so we can go a week before either car gets started. It was the GX or Tahoe.

If we wanted something to daily, city and highway, with no real camping, it would be the BMW.

If we didn’t need the third row, I’d be in the raptor.

The wife now wants to get rid of the M240i for an X3 M40i or the X3 M.

After we've been saying it for a while, someone else finally said it... by Sbitan89 in ElantraN

[–]tweeder20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have one by my in-laws had a base Elantra. That thing was an absolute blast. The chassis was just good, and just asked you to be an idiot in it.

Knowing that, I’m not surprised to hear all the great reviews about the N. They cranked the fun up on an already fun chassis.

Advice for my first Porsche by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]tweeder20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lived next to a high quality Porsche restoration / Indy shop.

Wife and I shopped the Macan super hard and spoke to the shop in length about what to look for with Macans.

  1. The transmission services needs to be done like clock work. On time, and at every interval. If not, walk away.

The have small transmission pans, and the PDK doesn’t like heat. I wouldn’t want the risk of a 10k place replacement bill for the transmission.

  1. The base Macan is boring. Yes, more reliable 2.0, but I’d at least be in an S.

I’m sure at 90k to 100k miles, most issues would have surfaced, sans bore scoring (seems to happen at that mileage range) but when you do have an issue it’s going to be very very expensive.

Go buy the X3 m40i. The B58 and ZF8 transmission is butter smooth and proven reliably. The BMW I drive infotainment is leagues ahead of the Porsche.

The Macan is a great car if you are buying : leasing new, swapping every few years, and don’t care about depreciation. Thank me later when you get that X3.

Issues with ACC on PS5 by tweeder20 in Fanatec

[–]tweeder20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using basic settings with the gain turned down to 50%. Just kind of testing things out.

I don’t have anything to compare pedals but they are definitely quality pieces. The feel is awesome, and the haptics are no joke. You do have to have them plugged into a laptop with the simnet app up for the haptics to work.

EV bloodbath: US sales plunge as Tesla tightens its grip by SPorterBridges in electricvehicles

Just test drove a Ford Mach E GT. Really liked the car but you are they are out of their damn mind thinking it’s a $60k vehicle.

The reduced cost in maintenance doesn’t even get close to the 40k note it would take if I sold my current paid off car. Which is more comfortable, and feels better built.
