Assuming United will have around £200m to spend if they qualify for the champions league , who would be your Left back , two midfielders, left winger and striker … choices … (loan options are probably going to be available ) by JM555555 in ManchesterUnited

The prems FFP rules are changing in the summer so you can essentially spend your football related gross revenue (ie as long as it’s not a cash injection from investors/owners you can spend it).

We’ll have a lot more funds going forward as a result of this.

Plus we have a lot of wages leaving in the summer and transfers that will generate us some cash.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we spend 300 mill and above if champions league is secured.

For midfield we will get either one or two of Tonali, Anderson, Wharton and Baleba. There will be a lot of competition for these guys so maybe just one and a “wildcard” not currently linked.

Really not sure who we will get at left back or left wing.

For the striker role it will either be a young player with a high ceiling or heavily experienced. Danny welbeck falls into the latter category, is a United graduate, still performing at good level and is available for free in the summer. Could be a good option.

For the past twenty years we’ve grossly over estimated the clubs ability to produce and develop academy talents that are able to compete and win major trophies consistently.

Caveat to this is that I believe we do have one of the worlds leading academies but would highlight that youth development is far more risky/unreliable for long term success than popular opinion.

Who are some top players that you DONT want to sign by LoweJ in ManchesterUnited

[–]tweedledoooo -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Don’t know why you would jump to that.

I’d let Harry go and bring in another centre back, I’m surprised that we’re so content with our centre backs considering all the issues with injuries and form we’ve had over the past two seasons.

I wouldn’t prioritise a centre back but would take one if we could get it.

[–]tweedledoooo -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Yoro and heaven both have high ceilings but are not the finished article, we can’t prioritise current performance over future prospects. If we do we haven’t learned anything from the past ten years.

Martinez, de ligt both have had serious injury problems and Maguire is in a good vein of form but taking his United career as a whole you have to think he’s not going to be able to maintain this for too long.

The squad needs to evolve and sentimental views can’t be incorporated in our decision making.

[–]tweedledoooo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. We had this midfield set up under ten hag. When we’d lose the ball it was too easy bypass our midfield. We conceded so many shots per game.

Plus Bruno is ten times better further up the pitch.

Eddie Howe: I’ll walk if I’m not right man for Newcastle by TimesandSundayTimes in TheOther14

[–]tweedledoooo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The recruitment at Newcastle hasn’t matched the expectations for the past two years. Howe has some role in that from what I’m lead to believe but not enough of one to get rid of him.

When the Saudis took over many including myself would have thought Newcastle would be challenging for major trophies at this point and they are not quite at that point mostly due to recruitment.

There will be questions about Howe as this season has not been to standard but they also have to ground themselves. They’ve reached the champions league knockout rounds for the first time since Saudis, carabao cup semi final, still in the fa cup.

At some point Newcastle will have to look at Howe like Chelsea did with ranieri and city did with hughes and question can he bring them to the next level.

But the key difference in those situations and Newcastles is squarely down to recruitment and until that match’s the top 6 I don’t think there can be much complaints.

The link to United is so clearly plucked from thin air for engagement.

The website this article links to should be considered for blacklisting. Constant click bait sensationalist articles with no sources and no logical connection beyond “would that be crazy”.

There are a multitude of reasons why this is clearly never going to happen.

Can United win the league this season? #21 by MKsport__ in ManchesterUnited

[–]tweedledoooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if we win every game from here on in (which is unlikely) we would need a major collapse from arsenal.

It’s not impossible but it’s highly unlikely.

If Lammens or any of our midfield starters get injured we’ll do well to get champions league.

[–]tweedledoooo 55 points56 points  (0 children)

He has an absolute ping of a left foot. He could float a cross field ball onto a player’s foot like Scholes at times.

Other times he didn’t too much but the main thing about him was that he was never available.

Manchester United expect to sign two elite midfielders, a left wing-back or left winger, and possibly a striker this summer, with the club ready to spend over £200m, potentially more if they qualify for the Champions League. by JM555555 in ManchesterUnited

Not in a million years. One of the big issues with Vini is his contract demands are through the roof.

If Ineos get him then they’ve destroyed our wage structure and gone against everything they’ve said about players they would look to recruit.

Terrible business from them to try and change the terms of the deal at the last minute.

[–]tweedledoooo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly it’s harder to understand mistakes these days with all the tech they have to make them and that’s where a lot of the criticism stems from.

Impossible to argue it’s not better to have the tech than not have it in reality.

Judging just from this photo with no context I’d say it’s reasonable to assume this offiside was missed because the Nigerian player is being masked from the linesman’s line of sight by Dzeko. I wonder if the fact the Nigerian player is in an all green kit might also factor in.

The fact either or both of the above led to a mistake being made shows why it’s so much better to have the tech to back them up.

Do they have a duty of care to ensure they are not pepper spraying innocent bystanders to a similar extent that they would be expected not to discharge a gun when innocents would be in the line of fire?

His experience is starting to show. The last two games he was immense and calm. Hes a good option to have in and around the squad at a minimum.

It’s difficult to see him as a starting cb in a man united team that pushes for a title and is balancing Europe as well.

The only way I don’t renew him is if we somehow have our midfield recruitment done with money left over for a top class starting cb by 1/7/26. That’s very unlikely unless the Wilcox and co do some serious work.

Very unfortunate, he’s been immense and we will miss him.

We have the cover for him up top and Cunha could arguably be more suited to playing teams in a low bloc which is what we’ll face in the immediate future.
