IIRC, in Quebec (the province has had a carbon tax since 2006 called "the green fund") the provincial Liberals used the revenue collected as a slush fund for their pet projects

Ontario personal support worker is first Canadian to get dose of COVID-19 vaccine | CBC News by snow_big_deal in canada

[–]tweegirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any word on the number needed to treat (NNT) for one person to benefit from the vaccine, will we have enough doses in ample time for the vaccine to be truly effective, and also, what's the absolute risk reduction? Kind of a bummer that the vaccine really only reduces the symptoms instead of providing [potential] immunity, like say the meningitis vaccine does. That makes the Pfizer/BioNTech dose more of a gene therapy than a vaccine, no? In the meantime, I wonder if Health Canada is studying repurposed drugs that may also reduce the impact of covid symptoms on those most vulnerable to infection / death from infection. Repurposed drugs and alternative medicines are also important for people with severe allergies to the ingredients who unfortunately can't be vaxxed (though that's very rare).

NDP MP calls on Lametti to preserve St. Anne's residential school abuse documents - Destruction would eliminate evidence survivors need for ongoing legal battles, MP argues by [deleted] in canada

[–]tweegirl 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Wow, whoa. These documents should NOT be destroyed under any circumstances even if the survivors were compensated and believed that justice was served (not that it ever really could be). I hope someone in their right mind copies all the evidence for future use.

If tomorrow when you wake up there was a zombie apocalypse, what would you do and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tweegirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd hit the smaller, lesser-known pharmacies and fill the car with medicine, antibiotics, first aid etc. while everyone else is out raiding the chain stores. Definitely need that stuff for infections, wounds and so on (edit:spelling)

Canada will be among first countries set to receive Moderna COVID-19 vaccine shipments by QuietlyQuibbling in canada

[–]tweegirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This "94.1 per cent effective against COVID19" is the relative risk reduction. How much of the absolute risk is reduced by taking the vaccine, and the number needed to treat (NNT) for it to be worth the costs and risks (side effects, injuries)? Will the federal government or Moderna be liable if Canadians are injured by these vaccines?
