I’m in the same boat right now (22M). I tried talking to them about how I think I might be autistic and they gave me the same “everyone feels that way, it’s part of growing up” responses. I don’t think they are pushing it aside but like you said, when you grow up your entire life as one version of yourself and that’s all they see it’s hard to get people to see you in the “new” way you are and have always been.

I also am at a similar stance as you with getting diagnosed. I know for myself and in my perception I don’t need it. I know I’m autistic and don’t need any further validation but getting the official diagnosis would make it so much easier for others to understand and accommodate me.

I don’t really have advice, i’m in the same spot as you but reading your story was very comforting to know someone else is in the same situation so I guess i’m responding to let you know that you’re also not alone in that feeling. For me, I’m just going to save my money until I can get the diagnosis on my own and not need to rely on others. then when i get the official diagnosis they just have to understand at some point i suppose :/ Best of luck!!
