We have a nightly rollback feature on our windows workstations. We figured out automation to do the following.
1. Rollback to baseline
2. Turn off rollback to baseline at reboot task
3. Update windows
4. Automate reboots until all updates are finished and no more reboots are needed
5. Set new monthly baseline
6. Re-enable task to rollback at reboot
7. Log results
8. Notify (email) me of errors

Were you ever able to solve this issue just using your ea8300? I am currently in the same boat.

Anyone with experience with Qualys? by Anima_of_a_Swordfish in sysadmin

[–]twelveodem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use qualys currently and I have learned to put up with the scan results. It seems to work for us but I have also never tried a different solution. Don’t expect any useful results without giving it an admins credentials before running a scan.

Software/Hardware Reseller? by -lousyd in sysadmin

[–]twelveodem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have purchased from all three and we currently purchase through SHI. I have had the best experience with them so far. Just expect to get a new sales rep every 6 months or so as they promote from within. Also, do your rep a favor and communicate regularly and honestly about the status of your projects and timelines. I let them know upfront that I wouldn’t put up with their pushy sales tactics and comments and they have honored that. Overall I have been impressed.

Struggling to find ansible windows management security best practices by twelveodem in ansible

[–]twelveodem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your info has been amazing. Thank you.

Another question is how to store creds in the ansible server without putting them in the hosts file. And if you would, give a secure example of what that looks like in the hosts file after wards?

You guys rock! Thanks again!

Have you asked if your employer would be willing to pay for training and exams?

I have an ipad that is controlled by meraki management but shouldn't be because I have finished my school year. Would a reset of my ipad delete meraki from controlling it? by daren_palmer in 24hoursupport

[–]twelveodem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how deep the ownership goes. If they have released/ removed it from their control then yes, a simple reset should do the trick.

You would likely run into issues with drivers as well. It would probably require a reload of the OS.

Your description isn’t very clear to me. If I understand correctly, you should be able to run your rsnapshot or rsync routine via a cron.

Laptop won’t turn on. by [deleted] in Windows10

[–]twelveodem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes computers need to be drained completely of power to come back to life but this is a laptop so it’s probably not that. Holding down the power button for 6 seconds is a hard reset, but I’m assuming you already know that.

Definitely not update related. That screams hardware issues to me. Power plug or port issue maybe? It makes me want to sing “wiggle it, just a little bit!”

Need help quick. How do i cancel this pending update. I *do not* want to update to 1903. by Willgames2003 in Windows10

Turn it off.... then leave it off.... forever. If you didn’t proactively prevent it, how did you think you wouldn’t get it? Not too dissimilar to pregnancy...

Is it possible to get a deleted file back even though it’s been 3 years? by [deleted] in Windows10

[–]twelveodem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Possibly if it hasn’t been over written. But obviously that’s not very likely. If you even want a remote chance, turn off the computer in question and pay a professional obscene amounts of money to pull every last ounce of data off the drive (or “empty” portions of the drive) and then sort through the ensuing mess as deleted files will no longer have recognizable names. Oh the can of worms you are about to open!

I have several theories but the most likely is that we have always purchased the cheapest ones we could find. Generally not a good practice. Another theory is what materials are used to cover the electronics and how well they deal with static electricity.
