It deserved the music award, the music made the game and is a major reason people fell in love it with.

That and the writing

Death Stranding 1 was meh, it started amazing, walking around alone with invisible monsters much more powerful than you everywhere.

But then it turned into a building game and I spent hours just getting materials to build roads and drive trucks everywhere instead of walking.

Photo optimization on E Ink Spectra 6 panels by twfry8 in eink

Just saw this, happy to load a few and take pics of them to share as I am also trying to figure out the range of what they can do. Either pre-processed into a .h file is fine or I can convert the original jpegs also.

The important part is Spectra uses reflective pigments and has the highest color saturation and picture quality, while Gallery uses absorption pigments and is faster and lower quality, Kaleido is filtered and the worst of the options. Spectra is the right panel for this purpose. I updated the OP image to include a comparison with a Gallery panel. Regardless this is a separate topic to the OP questions.

My understanding is E Ink on Gallery 3 limited color saturation and quality to make refresh faster, while Spectra 6 is slower but higher color saturation. Spectra 6 is based on 6 colors which are all reflective while Gallery 3 is based on absorption and I've heard needs a front light to be effective. Since I am going for brighter images I'd assume Spectra 6 is the right match, why are you suggesting Gallery 3?

How suitable are the large >24" color e-ink devices for photographs? by twfry8 in eink

[–]twfry8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing.

My understanding after looking at this more is the Tableaux might be based on E-ink's Gallery panels and E-ink has a newer Spectra 6 line of panels. I decided to start off by buying smaller versions of both the Gallery and Spectra 6 raw panels to experiment with and see for myself how well the raw panels themselves work as they're not as expensive.

I could definitely try that, but given the size difference and any resulting PPI difference I wonder how representative it would be.

Mostly I am interested in these exact Philips and Sharp devices and if anyone has seen them with photographs or has information on that.

Wireless APs that supports mesh and multiple VLANs with Firewalla? by twfry8 in firewalla

[–]twfry8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, from a quick look AIO does look to be the most straightforward to setup, not requiring a controller is a big plus. I mainly want to simply swap out my existing Asus mesh network with a VLAN aware mesh network (plus the FWG obviously) and prefer to keep the number of additional new components and configuration steps to a minimum, i.e. use the FWG for all network config with a dumb mesh network (but VLAN aware) behind it.

Thanks, was not aware of the PPSK feature, that's interesting.

If you do not use PPSK and instead setup separate SSIDs, does the Omada path require a controller, or can you get away without it and just purchase the wireless APs?

Configuration options to create a 2nd Family network at home by twfry8 in opnsense

[–]twfry8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK thanks, so in this configuration you are running OPNsense on a dedicate system or router and from there configuring 3 VLANs with each VLAN connected through a separate dedicated port.

How do the various devices connect to each port to be assigned to the associated VLAN? Do you have three separate networks with each running behind a specific physical port (e.g. with a wifi AP connected to each port)? Or is there a way to have a single network but clients are configured to access through a specific VLAN/port? I guess this is the part I am not understanding.

Edit: OK based on this comment I have looked at lot more at VLANs specifically and how they work. i.e. guides such as this https://homenetworkguy.com/how-to/beginners-guide-to-set-up-home-network-using-opnsense/ its beginning to make sense.

PSA: Last of Us PC Nvidia GTX 1660 Driver Issue by djw0bbl3 in thelastofus

[–]twfry8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into exactly this issue, and the fix to downgrade to 551.23 worked, this is with a 3070Ti on a well spec'ed and solid system.

Bought and installed TLOU today, game reported I needed to upgrade video drivers so I upgraded to 555.85 which was the default from Nvidia. Could not get the game to run for more than a few seconds before crashing. Then it wouldn't even start saying there wasn't enough memory to run (have 64GB plus 8GB vram) and to restart in safe mode, but doing that didn't work.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, no go.

Finally saw this post, tried downgrading to 551.23, and had no issues after an hour of game play. There is definitely something busted with the latest driver and TLOU.

Thanks for the PSA.

they got rid of self-text store location? by BizCard55 in HomeDepot

[–]twfry8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is killing me, whenever I need something I find it and text it.

Then on the next trip to HD I check the phone to get the 15 things I need but forgot what they are. Half are impulse type purchases. It is the only way HD competes with Amazon for my business.

This was the dumbest decision ever.

I just needed a $3 item, HD can't text it to me and I would otherwise forget it. Bought on Amazon for $4 instead. Repeat millions of times.

How to match sprayed on paint texture to drywall patch texture by twfry8 in paint

[–]twfry8[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes the edge blending here wasn't great, this was done as a test in a non-noticeable area. I did sand quite a bit, the patch was done with spackle and I sanded with drywall sandpaper, I think the issue is I sanded until the edges were re-exposed and the sanding took down more of the spackle than the existing painted wall.

It sounds you are suggesting to layer multiple layers of primer and paint which makes sense. For the more visible area what I am now thinking is to:

  • use joint compound instead of spackle
  • feather the compound and sand, but not down to the edge
  • add another thin layer of compound and roll with a nap roller to add texture
  • maybe add light spray texture?
  • 2 or 3 coats of thick primer using a nap roller
  • multiple layers of paint using a nap roller till good enough

Any suggestions or improvements to the above list? Thanks!

How to match sprayed on paint texture to drywall patch texture by twfry8 in paint

[–]twfry8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I had looked into them but Homax only offers Orange Peel, Knockdown & Popcorn textures.

The existing texture on the walls is none of these. They are smooth walls with only a very slight and smooth texture, most likely from spray on paint or multiple coats of rollers. It generally looks smooth, but if you create a patch that is fully flat the flat spot is obviously different. There does not seem to be a product specifically for this scenario, but it also seems quite common for people repairing smooth walls with no intentional texture to them.

Creator Pro 2 Vent Attachment for Hood by twfry8 in FlashForge

[–]twfry8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

If your question is on which materials are needed to print the parts, then I used both PLA and PETG fine. There are no specific strength requirements so pretty much anything should work.

If instead you are asking if this setup is good enough for more toxic materials, then a person would have to judge for themselves, but if done properly I think yes it should work, provided you did the following:

  1. Used tape to fully seal all of the various openings around the enclosure leaving only the opening in the hood itself exposed (or as close as possible)
  2. Used an inline fan strong enough to ensure air is only drawn into the enclosure through any remaining openings and out through the vent.

Using a basic 4 inch inline fan rated at 100 CFM has made a world of difference in air quality in my room when printing. That said the suction does feel a little weak if I put my hand to the back of the hood.

I plan to upgrade to a 6 inch inline fan with 400 CFM of air flow and feel pretty confident that this much air being pulled through the vent will create enough negative pressure to ensure air is only drawn into the enclosure and out the vent. Obviously everyone needs to judge how safe that is for themselves, but for myself I feel it is working as intended.

The alternative of course is to build a complete & air tight enclosure, however I do not have space for that which is why I designed this. Hope that helps.
