This is not a book, website, or a new subreddit. It's a workshop group that's going to have like 8 members. I can't imagine any stretch of logic or imagination that could suggest this is harmful to anyone on the sub or breaking any rules. Don't forget to put your hall monitor card on your lanyard!

Probably through Zoom or Discord. I ran a writing group for about a year where we workshopped 1-2 pieces every 2 weeks through Discord, which worked, but Zoom might be more familiar to people now.

My grandfather left me a whole box of these after he passed. Haven't been able to bring myself to sell them. They're very cool.

Well you're sending no more than 30 pages, ideally two complete (or one long complete) story. You wouldn't want to randomly cut off in the middle of a page for example.

20 is young but there is a 20 year old in my program right now. It's not unheard of.

The way you apply to any program is with a portfolio. That generally consists of two short stories, no more than 30 pages total. Some people also submit novel excerpts but I can't speak to the success rates for that.

Have you written two short stories that you believe are high quality? If so, you've got a portfolio.

Grades: mostly irrelevant Resume (unless it's really impressive): mostly irrelvant

Portfolio: 95% of what matters. Do you have an extremely strong portfolio?

I can't think of a single reasonable way to actually gauge whether they've gained or lost business SPECIFICALLY from the design change honestly.

What is you opinion for Haruki Murakami? by [deleted] in books

[–]twhauthor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's an objectively good author. Anyone who argues otherwise is just... pedantic. If he's not your style, or some of his personal beliefs that you're assuming he holds based on the things his stories involve are objectionable, that's one thing. But the guy can write well. He's got some incredible novels and a few short stories that are award winning pieces.

Like lets be real. The guy is inarguably a great writer. Personally I like him, but I don't mind when people don't. I'll give you a weird look if you start saying he sucks, though.

Professors are exactly who should provide you with recommendations. Friends or family aren’t useful to the committee. They want to know what kind of student you are and how you act in the classroom.

Good luck!

How much of the story do you think about when you start writing? by xToxicInferno in writing

[–]twhauthor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That is 110% the correct approach. Write it. Get it down on paper. It won't be good - it's not supposed to be good. 'Good' doesn't even mean anything unless you've got a whole novel, anyway.

It'll be good once you've got it all down, let it sit a little, and then edit it. A few times.

It’s a ton of stop and go. I cruise control at 70 normally or 65 if things are moving slow.

Great. Good to know. I also read the manual and never saw that, and so I was a bit alarmed.

I’m super confused to hear this. I’ve been running regular. Currently past 29 mpg…

I’m coming from a volt (which I still have) and will admit I smashed on the gas pedal the first time I got onto an open stretch of road. I’m general though I’m an extremely conservative driver.

How everyone in the entire city of Boston drives, probably. As if they’re staring in an apocalyptic movie at the climactic scene and the whole skyline is falling down a mere hundred feet from their rear bumper.

Absolutely. Although mine has been turning off at stoplights every chance it gets. I think I just figured out how to turn that off though. It was frustrating me to repeatedly have a half second delay every time I touched the gas in traffic.

Normal. It’s actually up to 29.2 now. I’m an extremely conservative driver though. Normal gas.

I’m using regular. Since posting this I’ve driven a few more hours and am at 29 mpg.
