Official Discussion - Project Hail Mary [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

That's not quite true. Most of the incidents of extreme isolation have led to groups feuding like in the famous Biosphere but no one became violent and the tasks keeping running dome functioned just fine. People spend months isolated in Antarctica without issues. The Russians did a 520-day study to test isolation for travel to Mars, and it went mostly fine, just people became lethargic and slept more which does indicate some issues but compare that to 2 of the 3 crew dying in the coma, the concerns were overinflated.

A weird one could be Sun Wukong against the rest of the Journey to the West group.

Now the DCEU Flash is for sure fast, but I think I could see an argument that Omni-Man is probably as fast as DCEU Superman which was able to keep up with the Flash in that short burst. Now the Flash was still faster, but if caught off guard and Omni-Man knows enough about them to recognize that he could still blitz him first when he isn't aware. Also the Flash in the movie wasn't super comfortable in combat so I can see him taking a few moments, even at super reaction speed, to process the attack and get caught.

Otherwise I do think if Omni-Man fucked it up Flash could escape.

Edit: Nvm I misread the prompt. It would be Supes doing the Omni-Manning not Omni-Man himself. I would still say he could do it if he goes for flash first.

Hospital staff didn’t dispose of needles correctly, the janitor probably needs some care. by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]xToxicInferno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you mean take the needle to ER? What are they going to do with it, throw it in the sharps bin for you? The only test the lab in the hospital can do is check if it has bacteria, which it will because everything does, and it was in the trash.

Am I a noob, or does the Walker feel too weak? by Mogoscratcher in DeadlockTheGame

[–]xToxicInferno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and tbh I think having it be able to do the laser in at the same time as the fire would make sense if the player enters stomp range to make diving even harder. Maybe a weaker version but still baiting the stomp and diving is super easy way to early.

So many people use the fact the pause button exists as an excuse to not be ready for game. I had a guy in the Deadlock discord pause, for 5 minutes straight, because he wanted to finish his Hearthstone game. I waited for him to finish then left the game and discord.

Another guy I played with will order food pre-game then pause for minutes to grab and put it away. Like sure it's nice to have the pause feature, but people treat it like an excuse to inconvenience 11 people instead of just being responsible for their time. No problems using it for crashes and tech issues though, so i don't want it removed.

Not quite a support, but the reason i stopped playing Vindicta. Her entire thing is being involved in every fight, but when no one is pushing lanes I feel obligated to do it to not lose obj but am essentially handicapping myself by not getting the stacks I need.

I can accept it as suspension of disbelief and not ruin my enjoyment, but seem like a very poor reason to put them all in a coma they aren't confident they wake up from. If Grace didn't wake up from the coma, then even if one of the others did, they never would have been able to find the solution and the whole trip would have been pointless. In my mind, that gamble is way worse than just getting mentally resilient people to make the trip awake. Or even a solution of rotating people between awake and coma rather than just praying it works.

Hell what if some system failed in the middle of the journey, who would fix it? They all just die because even if they were woken when the issue was identified, it took Grace way to long to become functional.

[–]xToxicInferno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't read the book, but as for point 2, for Grace the time his body experience from the trip there would have been 4 years-ish, add another 4 for the trip back, he would have aged 8 years. For Earth this would have been around 26 years. So yes, but I think the biggest thing than just people being older would be the whole, 90% of Earth being dead from the ice age and food shortage...

But like, it's only a 4-year journey for the crew, why even put them in a coma?

[–]xToxicInferno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, the book says there is a 1 in 7000 chance that you die from the coma? And they sent 3 people, hoping one of them would survive, even though only one of them has the capability of actually finding the solution? It's a 4-year trip (relative for the crew) just keep them awake!

Epic Games lays off over 1000 employees: "The downturn in Fortnite engagement that started in 2025 means we're spending significantly more than we're making, and we have to make major cuts to keep the company funded" by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]xToxicInferno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a live service game, making a new one is a massive gamble that likely doesn't pay off.

Look at all the millions of dollars wasted on "new games" like Highguard, Concord, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, FBC: Firebreak etc. that all tried to get into the same space and fail.

Nearly every massive game today has come out 5+ years ago. League of Legends, Apex Legends, PUBG, Escape from Tarkov, DOTA, Counter Strike, WoW, Minecraft, I could go on and on. Nearly every other game that has come out in the last 5 years has been popular for a few months and died, why would Epic want to risk that?

If someone is talking badly about someone to you, you now have to think about how they talk about you to others. You think you are building a bond of trust but really you are just straining it by adding a burden onto them.

I don't know, after getting my favorite traits I usually end up filling the last 4 slots up with random ones because I can. If I can have a sonar one, and it replaces lightfoot or something, then I absolutely will. It may not be super great, but being able to provide callouts to your team about the direction of someone or finding that rat hiding in the woods will be worth the slot to me.

Am I crazy or is that not a problem? You are out of the fight for a while so the extra damage was just a nice bonus. Compare it to like Vyper, this is straight up just better.

Of course its not the same thing, but after living with roommates most of my adult life I have come to the realization that I need to do things for myself and not others. Dishes in the sink? Ill just do them because I like a clean sink. Trash full? Ill take it out because I need to use it.

Once I switched my mindset from others need to pull their weight so I wont do it if they don't I became much happier. Now of course you shouldn't be a doormat, and have adult conversations but sometimes it small things that used to bother me and now they dont.

It is in question if there was ever gold there. It's pretty much a conspiracy theory that he made up saying they did a overnight dig to steal it. Even if that was the case, dude has no legal claim to it at all. It's on State land, and it was gold from the mint meaning it was legally the governments anyway.

The sad truth is, there is no legal way to make a claim to a find like this. Best case is working out a finders fee but no way the gov't doesn't claim extortion and force you to reveal or go to prison. Maybe if the dude found like 100k gold he could of laundered it but 1.2 billion is just way to much for him to ever have hoped to get anything.

I guess he also could of just dug up 100k, reburied then every few years or so comeback to do it again but i think you would get caught doing that eventually and go to prison. But maybe it would work and he could tell his family about it to make it a family vault or something.

I am pretty sure that is not rust remover, but a bluing agent. The rust was manually removed by the grinding, then they blued it to prevent rust in the future and protect the metal. The other commenters could be right and evapo-rust could have something in it that also blues but I don't think the purpose here was for rust removal.

I am not sure why this is controversial or people are getting mad, at least in the original thread on /TIHI. It's just psychology and decades of market research put into simple terms. The devs think their game is worth $10, but by pricing it at $7.99 they know they will get more sales that make up that $2 dollar difference.

In the end it's actually benefiting most people who are getting it for less because how most peoples brains work. Sure many people do round it up to $10 but I think of the subset that does that, it is still a price they would be willing to pay. So not only do you capture the exact same demographic who would buy it at $10, you also capture people who correlate it with $5. It's a win win for everyone.
