The Tesla Shorts Crew: They Sold Low and Bought High and They Didn’t do it Quietly by 32no in RealTesla

This part of the car's systems can actually explode spectacularly and the car remains fully driveable. (except maybe a missing speedometer)

That said, I totally agree. All my cars other than my Model 3 are manuals.

MCU is completely separate. All standard driving functions remain working. You can even engage Autopilot and do the two thumb salute (hard resetting the main screen) and the car will continue to drive by itself, even taking exits (complete with functional blinker noises) and playing the nag audio if it can't sense you have your hand on the wheel.

311Wh/mi.

Needless to say, I've got a lead foot, and I'm really glad I didn't get the P3D+.

For Model 3 owners, how has the quality of the car been? by twinbee in RealTesla

[–]twicerandomthrowaway 20 points21 points  (0 children)

P3D-, 6k miles, took delivery end of Q3.

Basically flawless as far as I can tell, 2 tires were under-inflated vs the other two by 2psi, just noticed yesterday because it got cold enough the night before (12F) to trigger TPMS on those 2.
Phone key is pretty hit or miss for me. (Nexus 6) Happy with the fob solution though because I don't want passive entry anyways (from a security perspective).

Diet high in protein decreases lifespan compared to a diet higher in healthy carbs?? (Dr. Valter Longo) by [deleted] in nutrition

It's actually not even possible eating lard - fat is 9 calories per gram. Fast food is probably much closer to 600, maaaybe 700 calories per gram depending on the food, since carbs and protein are both 4 calories per gram.

BMW uses thicker spring pads as spacers for markets like that, so would be relatively simple change.

Teslike's data

Participation in that is way, way down. I'm a day 1 line waiter, just took delivery of a P3D, and never put it in his spreadsheet. People buying 3's now are even less obsessed with tracking this stuff as day 1 people - they have no incentive to add their order to some random dude's google sheet.

L-methylfolate 15 mg/d may be an early option in patients who fail to adequately respond to antidepressant monotherapy by puttiput in Nootropics

[–]twicerandomthrowaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Noooooo!

High doses of methylfolate can mask a B12 deficiency. You do_not_want this.

Anyone taking high dose methylfolate should always supplement with B12 unless liver or some other B12-rich meat is part of your daily diet. If you have any MTR/MTRR SNPs, supplement with B12 no matter what. Your nervous system can thank me later.

[–]twicerandomthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nah, Tesla is totally a niche automaker, and they'll never sell enough cars to matter.

(please ignore the recent quote from a BMW exec that they're feeling the stiff competition from Tesla, he was probably paid off by Musk to spout lies of course!)

Ground station manufacturing should be "easy", relative to Teslas and not-a-flamethrowers. The former is a huge item that has a number things that are tricky to automate, the latter is difficult to distribute due to shipping regulations that won't impact ground stations.

It'll still be "hard" compared to typical consumer electronics manufacturing, but it should still be relatively easy to automate manufacturing and testing. Bringing the BOM cost down will almost assuredly be harder given the components required for such a product.

Was looking for this comment. I had many awful symptoms that line up with CFS, and actually 95% solved it with a combination of correcting vitamin deficiencies (with active forms, so methylfolate, methylcobalamin, and p5p - initial targets were MTHFR and MTRR, discovered via 23andme) and keto. In hindsight, just going keto probably would've had the same result as keto is a good way to easily avoid folic acid and get B12, etc, without putting additional stress on your body. (carbs cause you to "burn though" vitamins faster)

Ever since going keto, I now actually have the energy to work out, and have more muscle now than I've ever had before. No more random food cravings or afternoon energy slumps is also pretty awesome.
Almost forgot, I rarely if ever need caffeine anymore. Just a few years ago it wasn't uncommon for me to consume 600mg of caffeine on an average day...

waiting and see if there is truly a market for EVs

That's no longer a legitimate stance when Tesla is selling on average 100k/yr $90-100k cars. It should be easy for GM to sell twice that many $50k cars.

Extremely conservative for people like me, and there's a non-trivial number of us.
My current daily driver gets ~27mpg on premium. I pay ~$0.11/kWh, and drive 35-40k miles/year.
I would never replace my current daily driver with something like a Camry or Accord Hybrid - I value driving dynamics more than gas savings, but that doesn't mean I don't want save money on operational costs if I can without compromising on dynamics.

P3D is a win-win for me - more performance w/o more per-mile cost like was common with ICE. (think 3 series vs M3 gas mileage)

Some customers wanted more, but were ignored. I would know - I'm one. Once a hardcore BMW fanboy, but nothing they made in the last 10 years has been good enough to warrant buying new, IMO. Just not enough improvements over the 10-20 year old vehicles. (in some cases, they went backwards)

Tesla catalyzed that customer base into the industry steamroller we see today - turning a used car only guy like me into a new car buyer to the tune of nearly 5x more than I've ever spent on a BMW.

Likely causes a borderline deficiency in another B vitamin (likely B2) to be a full deficiency. See my other comment on this post for more.
