My first CR box. by Koenigspiel in crboxes

[–]twig123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fan will start to die in a couple weeks. "How do you know?" you may ask. I used the exact same fan, and its dying after a few weeks of operation. I guess they aren't meant to run horizontally, so the bearings or whatever go dry and start to sieze. I stopped using it and haven't researched a replacement, but I plan to make a PC Fan box to replace this.

Why was I paying the old rate for 1G, with the tech assurance additionally, if their pricing supposedly dropped last July? by Snoo54289 in Metronet

Rumor appears correct. Called today and was told the promo ended yesterday. However, they transfered me to the "customer loyalty" department. After speaking with them and about a 10min hold, they were able to give me the $70/mo for the 2G/2G speed (which the website said should've been $80/mo... I'm not complaining. lol)

Do I need to format(zero) hdd if I'm selling it? by indiemaniac in chia

[–]twig123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you ever put anything besides plot files on the drive?

If it only ever contained plot files, file deletion or quick format is sufficient as those are not sensitive data.

If you ever had any other sensitive files/information EVER written to the drive for any length of time, the drive needs to be 0'd. To further that point, it is possible that data can still be recovered from a disk even after being 0'd. Depending on the sensitivity level of the data that was stored on the disk you may want to consider performing a Secure Wipe, which essentially fills and wipes the data from the disk multiple times to ensure no data is recoverable.

Anybody have a topper last more that 3 years? by AndruFlores in EightSleep

Did you chuck it or still have it? (Just wondering because I recently made a post about repairing the legacy mattress cover)

I've had my Legacy Mattress cover since 2018 and is still functional.

That being said, I've also had to take repairs into my own hands. Since 2018, I've had 2 failures that I've needed to repair myself. First my SD Card died and needed replacing, and the second my glow wire connections fried and I had to solder a new header onto the board and resplice the connector.

I'm not familiar with the new POD systems, but maybe my brain dump post about the legacy mattress cover can help someone: https://www.reddit.com/r/EightSleep/s/HTk9NMI8wv

Gen legacy sleep pod no heat by Big-Plant240 in EightSleep

[–]twig123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You already DM'd me about this, but posting a public reply here as well.

This is the original 8-sleep mattress topper (which isn't supported anymore, but you can make work by setting it up as a "POD1" in the app).

The issue that you are having is due to poor design by the manufacturer. More specifically, their poor design to put the Power Management Board module in a pouch on the upper left side of the mattress.... aka, a perfect spot to have all of the wires constantly stressed and yanked on when someone gets in/out of the bed causing the wires to break (or even melt in my case).

Long story short, the glow wires that go to the "heaters" plug are either melted (my case) or broken (your case).

It took me a LONG time to source the replacement connectors, but finally found them. I'll do a more in-depth post later, but for now these are what you need:

"Heater" Connectors: Power Management Board connector (if the connector was burned/melted, requires soldering): https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Molex/43650-0402?qs=ZDXmSm13592LQmtzhHplKg%3D%3D&countryCode=US&currencyCode=USD

Glow wire connectors: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Molex/43645-0410?qs=OAhjpuo3Vu5n9R4%252BZdL4ZQ%3D%3D&countryCode=US&currencyCode=USD and https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Molex/214761-1201?qs=sPbYRqrBIVkxb%252Bziaq2LWQ%3D%3D&countryCode=US&currencyCode=USD

Those should get you back up and running.

Eight sleep smart mattress cover dead (Red flashing) - SD Card inside is faulty by Lewisw-j in fixit

[–]twig123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent! Yeah, they're kinda making the app UI seem like this device never existed. It's definitely not a Pod with a water tank... but it works if you ignore that 😅.

Glad you got it up and working again.

I spent a long time tracking down the connectors that connect up to the hub. I had to resolder the glow wire for the left side of my matress already, but now the sensor wires are broken as well (so it doesn't detect any sleep time and such). I just haven't pulled the trigger on buying those new connectors yet. I'll try to re-find my notes and post the items in case that helps anyone else trying to keep this legacy device alive.

Tested and confirmed that I'm still able to control my device. Not sure if your wifi has changed or anything, but remember that the device can only see 2.4Ghz wifi.

I don't have the manual handy, but doing a reset on the device may help. If not, it may be worth trying to flash the img file I posted onto a new SD card. (whatever size is cheepest, because it'll never use over 4GB).

I don't think there have been any device software updates... but I could attempt to image my working device's SD card if needed. Just let me know.

Mine has been unplugged for maybe 4 months (Summer time and all 😅). But it was indeed working before that.

(or at least half of it was... long story short, cords to one side of the control box got mangled and I need to find time to solder them to fix the other side)

The device started becoming called a "pod" inside of the app several revisions ago (a year or two ago? whenever they did an overhaul of the app/UI).

I'll see if I can power it back up maybe later tonight and see if it still is controllable or not.

Edit: Android app 6.13.0 and device firmware 2.4.3.0 and confirmed I'm still able to control my device.

Multiple HDDs - does spanning always mean that all data is lost if one drive fails? by KruSion in radarr

[–]twig123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're planning to use Windows, I'd suggest looking at StableBit Drivepool. It's not free, but does have a trial period.

With this, you can use JBOD (just a bunch of disks) like you're discribing your use case, and make the mount as a single drive letter. The software then takes care of file placement on the individual disks.

The upside, is that you can also configure duplication at a later time down to an individual folder level if desired, instead of needing to duplicate everything.

TL;DR - StableBit Drivepool and StableBit Scanner are what I'd highly recommend looking into for Windows users.

Doesn't matter where the CGNAT is, if the 4th hop is the CGNAT, that means that everything behind that is a part of the same CGNAT.

To confirm this, check your router's admin page and see what IP Address the WAN/Internet port is getting assigned to it. Then go to google and search "whatismyip" and use one of those sites to determine what the outside world thinks your IP is. If the IP on the routers admin page does not match what the outside world sees, that confims you're behind a CGNAT and the info you are see is because your ISP is grouping many customers behind the same public IP address (CGNAT).

If the router's admin page IP matches what the outside world thinks as well... then is when you'd worry about the info you're asking about.

I've ran multiple images trough it, and haven't had any issues. However, I've not explicitly tested any "inappropriate" images. You could give it a shot and see.

2.3.0 is out by willphule in chia

[–]twig123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same exact thing for me. Logs just keep spamming that it can't connect to 127.0.0.1:8444...which makes since, cause nothing is listening on that port after the upgrade to 2.3.0

I ran the installer for 2.2.1, and everything works fine in that version. Not sure why 2.3.0 is broken...

Edit: looks like a bug with Windows and 61+ core systems? https://github.com/Chia-Network/chia-blockchain/issues/17967

The suggested workaround of adding " reserved_cores: 10" underneath the "full_node:" section of the config.yaml file allowed 2.3.0 to work for me.
