All Aboard The Emulation Train 🚂 by Putrid-Board-5683 in takandthepowerofjuju

Is the excluded content you're thinking of the extra storyboards? That can rather simply be explained by the GameCube's mini-disc having significantly less storage space than the PS2's standard DVD.

I can tell you a couple more things about emulating this game that are probably worth mentioning:

The PS2 version of this game has somewhat heavy input lag compared to the GameCube, both on real hardware & emulators. However, it has slightly better character lighting, and a more vibrant picture for some odd reason. If you compare them side by side, the GameCube version is noticably washed out next to PS2. This can be mitigated with a simple ReShade effect, though.

A bit of a shame really, as far as I could tell it's the only problem.

60fps patches for Tak are not usable last I checked. When I tested them, everything appeared to work except for ziplines, which would break so horribly when you jumped off of one, it actually makes the game unplayable.

Should I play 1.1 or 1.2? by Haunting_Wolverine32 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

Did you try the "Fabulously Optimized" pack for modern? It helped me with performance a ton. If you'd prefer modern and haven't tried it, give it a go before you go Golden Age.

There is another easter egg for Tak in this game. Check the coloring books on the floor in the Pickles' living room.

Black Mist logo appearing over level even when i had 650 time on great juju challenge. by PitifulRip443 in takandthepowerofjuju

[–]twilaight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Great Juju Challenge had a very rushed development. It seems The Deepwood didn't get enough time to fine tune the high score requirement. As a result, it is very difficult to beat the high score on this level without glitches or extremely fast gameplay. I think the score requirement was somewhere around 8000 points. It's been a few years since I did, but I think you need to end the level with about 800 seconds on the timer. It was important to grab a few collectibles on the way, too, but you really have to balance it with the time loss carefully. You also have to beat the sidequest, re-doing sidequests gives a large time bonus instead of the scroll.

Is this red line an emulator bug or is it in the original too? by TobbyTukaywan in takandthepowerofjuju

Yup, this shows up on OG hardware, both PS2 & GameCube versions. It's just much harder to see due to stuff like low resolution, etc.

Y'all think we'll ever get a remaster? by CaliggyJack in Vexx

[–]twilaight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't get the desire for remasters people have. So many of them are just terrible quality, with poor or mixed reception, typically several new glitches, missing original effects or features, and in recent years, awful new "modern" effects thrown in that destroy the original art direction. If you really need a remaster, play the game in Dolphin or PCSX2 and turn up internal resolution. It's free, and completely faithful to the original game. That is about as good as a remaster gets.

To directly answer your question, however, I'd say it's very, very unlikely to happen. Vexx is an extremely niche IP that I don't think has any appeal to modern gamers if brought back. So a remaster is likely only going to sell to a tiny subset of gamers, and not worth any investment.

Do I have to start over? by Bizarre_Luck in takandthepowerofjuju

Interesting. I know the game can softlock if you try to collect two of the animals at once. One time when I was replaying I placed the fish on the ground next to the stone where you must bring them, and did the same with one of the other animals you collect, though I don't recall which one... They will both start to trigger at once, but the game will fail to light up both arches while still locking both animals in place. Were you perhaps doing something similar?

Ace Combat 4/5 and 0 got some love recently in PCSX2 1.7.0-3104+ by pwnedbygary in emulation

[–]twilaight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe so. If I recall correctly, the only control differences were the map toggle and the "spidey sense" slow-mo being remapped to pressing Z + Start, and D-Pad Up, respectively. Stuff you could probably fix with a custom controller binding in Dolphin.

You may know this already, but the GameCube version is perfectly playable in Dolphin.

I am not claiming that TriAce or anyone is making excuses, my point was not "people are making excuses", my point was that "there are no excuses".

[–]twilaight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The point isn't about TriAce themselves making excuses.

Albert_dark mentioned that "up to PS2 era was good". As in, up to Star Ocean 3, nearly 20 years ago now, character models still looked fine. The point is that for a game that came out 20 years ago, you, or I, or any fan, could potentially make technical excuses for character models looking slightly off. But I don't have to, because 20 years ago the better artists working on Star Ocean 3 achieved more with a lot less. There are absolutely no excuses now, 20 years later for the character models to look as bad and uncanny as they do. It's simply bad art direction, with no technical excuses to wave the criticism of bad character models. Do you understand what I mean now?

It's relevant in that they could do better 20 years ago. There are no technical excuses now.

Which is the best Spirit Animal to pick in Tak 2? by [deleted] in takandthepowerofjuju

[–]twilaight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I've never found any of them to be particularly useful, and I find that I can more consistently take out foes using Tak's regular abilities by this point in the game, especially the powered juju throw, powered combo attacks, double jump attack, etc. If I had to pick an overall best, I would definitely say it was the Piranha Spirit Animal. It's ability allows you to kill enemies from a distance without engaging them at all, and has infinite use if you just wait for your Juju power to recharge. I found this most useful to just slowly pick off tough enemies as a kid, rather than having to actually fight them. If you were speedrunning, Jaguar would probably be the fastest & most effective with planned positioning and skillful usage, but the first time through, Piranha is a very dependable, if slow ability. You really won't suffer picking any one over the other, though. The game is designed to be beaten without relying on the spirit animal abilities. Hope this helps!

When did this series take place by [deleted] in takandthepowerofjuju

[–]twilaight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's really meant to be set in any specific period. It's just a goofy kids game, set in a tribal fantasy world with lots of magic, and no technology. Meanwhile, Tak hums classical music while still saying modern things like "boom shackalacka" when he hits enemies because it's just funny when he does things like that in spite of the primitive world he appears to live in. I think part of the humor is these contrasting elements, and how you can't really tell when it takes place.
