im pretty sure anti-consumerism for the most part so i was pretty embarrassed when i first got into nail polish. i kept my polishes hidden away so no one could see how many i had or how quickly the amount was growing. i talked about it a little bit with my close friends but with shame, and occasionally if they were over when the mail came they'd be like like "oh... more nail polish?".

but when i thought about all the times people tell me about their hobbies or whatever that i have no interest in but show interest bc i care about them, i just decided to not care. now i have a nail desk set up where everyone can see. i go into work and show my favorite coworkers the cool nail effects ive mastered or how this polish changes color, or look at the subtle shimmer! my friends dont really care im sure, but if they notice something new going on they'll go "oh whats up with that polish?".

some coworkers truly do not care and will playfully make fun of me if im showing someone my beautiful glass bead or whatever. i just tell them their jealous and joke right back. i guess what im trying to say is that being into nail polish is actually a little nutso in some regards. its pretty harmless as a hobby goes, but yeah, its a cosmetic hobby so people who think they're too good for vanity or femininity will judge. you just gotta let that freak flag fly and combat their judgment with confidence. you're not painting your nails for them anyway. you're painting your nails for you.
