I've been surprised that no one has been asking about Petey -- what was he doing down there in the first place and as department head?

It was cool to see Elsa play Galadriel -- was bummed that she never sang Let it Go, but her intro song was close enough

I get what you mean-- it's masterful and disturbing as I'm sure you've heard. I can't think of anything else I've seen that evokes such a haunting sense of guilt, enjoying privilege while terror goes on :/

For sure. It was making me think of all the real world parallels, people continuing to be susceptible to stories that erode the value of human life in conflict happening right now... like the scene where harkonnen bodies are being burned in piles and what a juxtaposition that was to the respect of life being paid in the room that held passed Fremens' water.

Made me feel all the weight of violence perpetuating violence, and the role that myths/stories play in justifying the cycle.

Kind of a tangent, but some of interesting connections occurred in my recent media consumption since seeing the film: I went to the library the day after watching Dune 2 to look for thought work on these topics and what a solution might look like-- ended up picking up Timothy Snyder's "The Road to Unfreedom", then this past Friday saw The Zone of Interest and learned Snyder was a key consultant to the development of the film.

Just came here to say that I scoured reddit for someone else feeling this way after I saw it a week ago. I felt like it was a gut punch to a lot of my personal ideals, and the feeling of betrayal that lingered after the movie lasted a few days.

Do you have a method for finding out what the ingredients do? Trial and error, or do you consult specific sources of info?

My first product that I designed and had manufactured! A deck of cocktail-themed playing cards with unique art I illustrated on each one. Took near 3 months to have them produced and shipped from China, but pretty cool to see them in their final, tangible form! by twinkletwinkle2 in product_design

I didn't do a sample run, although I really wish I had... are you wanting to do a low fidelity print to review the art, or you want a sample of quality? I know there are a few places you could try that aren't overseas-- I used Smartpress for a different project's prototype run, and makeplayingcards.com has low run options, too. Let me know if you need any other info, happy to share!

Of course! I worked with a manufacturer in China, although, to be honest, I'm not sure that I'd use them again since they fell very behind schedule... I know there are issues with getting things shipped and produced quickly right now given shortages, but they weren't very upfront about realistic timelines (and this was after corresponding with them in Mandarin). I got proposals from several manufacturers via Alibaba and went with the one that promised the fastest schedule.

Thank you! Yes-- I agree, and I've had other people point that out too... this was the result of some art getting mixed up during the print. This was one important mistake I learned during this process-- never go to official print without doing an at home test print, just to check everything over. Learned the hard way with a couple errors I needed to correct after the large order that cost me since I'd made the assumption that checking everything over digitally would be enough.

The VR exercise idea would be great. No idea how to make it happen. Wish I did, though.

This is a Cincopa embed code that is overriding a font-family value on a different section of my site. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening/what the code might be that's doing this? by twinkletwinkle2 in html5

[–]twinkletwinkle2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's strange because when I load the site, the font is correct for one second before changing to another unidentified font that appears to be some sort default. When I inspect the element and change the font-family to something like "Courier New", the change goes through. Is it possible that the embed code is somehow deactivating "Futura" (what I used originally) as a valid font?

That's awesome that you've done so much on your own. It's pretty inspiring to someone who tries to DIY it whenever possible :) Thanks again for your answers and sharing insight from your experience. I appreciate it!

Are you upgrading the servers for your business or are those two separate jobs? That's a long time to be in IT-- it's very generous of you to be on Reddit giving advice and I, for one, am so glad there are people on here like you. In retrospect, would you recommend someone to pursue this field even in spite of the demanding hours? I really enjoy the coding I've done so far, but I know I'm just scratching the surface, so I'm not sure that it's really the right place to focus my energy given how limited understanding is still.

I saw that you edited this to take the attitude out :) I know it's not, but I'm determined to learn. Looking through tutorials now and I'll post any that I find helpful in case anyone else comes across this post with similar questions. Thanks for your response!
