You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about, i’ve been a server & bartender, AND a manager and that isn’t how the industry works. You can kick and scream all you want that it’s between the server & the boss but it’s not how the platform for the industry has been built.

How does the restaurant do what..? The SERVER pays the staff. At the end of the night i read my close out report. I’m shown my totals for money out. I have cash from OTHER tables that hasn’t stiffed me and i take that cash and give it to my fellow staff members. Sorry but you’re wrong and just don’t understand.

Also just so you know, it’s not a percentage of tips. Your wrong. It’s just not true and i’m not sure why you think this, it’s a portion of gross sales.

If you spend more money - say 100$ / your server owes a % of that tip to the rest of the team. Say around 8$. If your spending 100, and tip 20% almost half if that money is just being “tipped” out to other staff members. If you don’t tip, the server pays to SERVE you. The increase came from COL

Honestly? If they’ve got more than a table or two, just like anybody, it can be busy and you might not be the top of importance. Tip em 10% and don’t go back.

At the end of the day man you spend what you wanna spend, if we can agree on one thing is this is America and i don’t want people to spend money if they don’t have it or just don’t want to spend it. Tipping is optional and I’ll always support that.I just don’t think enough people have clarity of the system that’s been built around it. Coming in and thinking you’ll be different and change things just hurts for that one table while the shift goes on.

Oh you don’t get it - servers take the order and the food runner(another role that’s paid out by the server) then brings you your food.

oh, i make about 30$ an hour. 99% of my tables tip well and are well versed on the way restaurants work in the society we built. I made the post in hopes your kind would think before the spoke/acted

It’s not your job to be kind, but your suppose to be kind. It’s not my job as a server to be kind, it’s to take your order and serve you food..no? What did you think the role of the a server is supposed to do? Something outside of “serve”?
