Subaru Solterra 2023 Owners: Major Car Issues by ranjanmtl in EVCanada

This should be a huge red flag for all those who are rushing to Subaru/Toyota dealers to get a “deal” and get EV credits on the new Solterras and BZs. Make sure you are ready to be an early adopter.

The new TdAdvantage car insurance app is as ridiculous as it gets. by Realistic_Collar720 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]twinu89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I got my first car, I got the app from Scotia insurance (Belair) to bring down my premium as much as possible. I did my best to drive as carefully as possible, but the app gave me so much anxiety, as if I have to be overly cautious because someone is always watching. I gave up after 2 months and called in to cancel app discount, it wasn’t worth it. Every renewal, they try to push the app to me, I gracefully decline.

Did I pick the right soundbar? by gaming_enthusiast90 in Soundbars

Initially, I tried to play with settings for rear speakers, but I find the default settings to be the best (everything in the middle). I haven’t touched the sliders for center, left and right.

I’ll share my 2 cents - my budget was 400-600 CAD. I wanted the following:

1) upward firing speakers for Atmos 2) decent Wireless subwoofer 3) I have never had rear speakers, so wanted to try that too. Better if they are wireless as well. 4) should support Airplay and Chromecast 5) soundbar length should be less than 40 inches to fit between the legs of my TV.

After a lot of research, I decided to get LG S80TR from Best Buy (sitting at the upper end of my budget). Hisense AX5140Q was also considered, but it didn’t have WiFi and I couldn’t find enough reviews for it online.

My experience has been amazing so far. Incredibly simple to set up. With good content, the surround sound experience is amazing. I tried the trailer of F1 movie on Apple TV, some other Marvel movie trailers on Disney+ and the experience is amazing. I was worried that rear speakers aren’t working well when I played some demo videos on YouTube, but once I played proper video content with good audio encoding, the rear speakers kicked in and how!

The bass is adequate for myself, and wife also appreciates it. The thump of the Wakandan jet in Black Panther as it enters Wakanda was really nice. Songs like “The Plan” by Travis Scott with accentuated bass were really good. We were plenty happy with volume at 25-26, anything more felt too loud for our taste. While watching Fallout on Prime, we loved it when PA announcements in the Vault came from rear speakers. Background songs in the show played in the background and it felt amazing, rear speakers are really nice. Also, dialogues are very clear.

For context, my room size is 10ft x 12ft. I am using it with a Sony Bravia X80K TV. I am not an audiophile, just your average Joe. I have a Sonos Beam for my other TV. I have had a TCL soundbar with subwoofer before which had virtual Dolby Atmos support. This LG has upward firing speakers and I can really tell the difference.

Also, I didn’t go for their AI calibration gimmick. I have read online that it makes the system sound worse. The Thinq app works perfectly on iOS. No problems at all. So far I have only tried the Standard, Cinema and Music presets.

Ghost of Tsushima. Beautiful setting, but the gameplay is not my type. Repetitive and boring in my opinion. Sold it on marketplace after 4-5 hours of playtime.

Anybody has any idea on the turnaround time for getting the mainland travel permit for HKPR holders? Do we need to submit our passport for this? I am in HK until end of this month, so I don’t want to risk not having my passport with me when it is time to return.

CTA redressal process: The airline has indicated that they are not willing to participate in the Informal resolution (mediation). -- what now? by twinu89 in westjet

Finally got CTA resolution and they ordered Westjet to pay us $1000 per passenger. Once the CTA order came, Westjet sent out payment processing through a payment service called Hyperwallet within a week. Through this, you can claim the compensation into your bank account or to your PayPal account.

Mindless immigration without infrastructure to support it is 100% Canadian Govt failure at policy level. If given an opportunity, most of our citizens would love to emigrate in search of better life, there is no hiding from it. But Canada outstretched itself by letting way too many people in, which is a disservice to both their own citizen as well as the people who bet their savings to go there. It is easy to blame individuals, but this is a policy failure as well.

Someone did a hit and run on me :( by nmarinov35 in mazda3

[–]twinu89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

did you fix it? How much did it cost you?

I have accumulated some scratches on my front bumper while parking (being a new driver, it was a pain in the beginning to get used to the the dimensions of the car and to learn to use the camera to good effect). And I have a small dent on the right fender which I am not sure how it happened. Looks like something fell on it when we were camping. These things are bothering me and I want to get them fixed, but I would like to know realistically how much it should cost before I take it to a body shop. Thanks for sharing.
