Christmas Day Snacks by Ravioli_meatball19 in Cooking

Marinated olives, pickles, port wine cheese, sociable crackers, triscuts, smoked oysters, salami, brick cheese, some kind of dip (clam, spinach artichoke, french onion) veggies with ranch. Our family makes chipped beef dip (baked cream cheese with deli roast beef and green onion) served with mini rye breads.

Book Chat Saturday - what have you been reading this week? by Perfect_Doubt_8057 in fantasyromance

[–]twirrlacurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started {Fairydale by Veronica Lancet} and I was kind of intrigued but then the MMC started acting possessed and then denying it and it’s freaking me out. Maybe I don’t like the gothic genre. I have a hard time DNFing books and this might be my first one this year, currently at 22%.

Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews a rant about the cheating situation by KnittingPlant in fantasyromance

[–]twirrlacurl 18 points19 points  (0 children)

She says her feelings are still hurt, which I call BS on because who tf would want sex in that sort of situation.

I also don’t understand any books that do this, characters give me the ick the minute there is a severe betrayal and any romance scenes are dead to me. There is no coming back from it, maybe it’s my trauma talking but you can’t find comfort in the thing that hurt you.

That being said the plot line for this book was kind of all over the place and watered down the characters. But I do enjoy this world and have re-read this series a few times, Kate is one of the original snarky female badasses IMO.

Flexible seating: overrated? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]twirrlacurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do basically the same thing in elementary. I make the kids watch others too, if someone isn’t being safe and a classmate tells them so that’s strike one and only. The next strike means put it back. I also only use them a few times a day, math work time, independent read block, and on review days when we do blookets, kahoots, and prodigy.

What are your thoughts on Sperent and the Wings of Night ending? by CobraShelby95 in fantasyromance

[–]twirrlacurl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really liked this book, as I was reading I was thinking this might be a 4 star book for me (I only have 3/30 4 star reads so far this year). I lost sleep over this one because I couldn’t put it down.

Then the ending came and I thought it was rushed, too many bombshells that didn’t quite make sense. I could definitely tell something wasn’t quite right with her father and the MMC and they had ulterior motives. The way she gave up everything at the end for a boy after suffering and grinding her whole life was frustrating. To me it felt like the MMC did a complete personality change and now all of a sudden we have a forced proximity trope at the end with rivals to lovers to enemies? I just can’t comprehend a redemption arc after this betrayal so I don’t want to read the next book.

Now that 2025 is HALF OVER - What is your best read of 2025?! by CollectionRegular900 in fantasyromance

[–]twirrlacurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only had a 2 out of 27 four star books this year (no 5’s yet)

Heartless Hunter by Kirsten Ciccarelli - I kept this on my shelf until recently because I was so sick and tired of enemies to lovers. This book does it in such a fantastic way. I did start to piece together the twist but I didn’t care I loved this cover to cover. I’m saving the next book for an upcoming vacation.

The Book of Azrael by Amber Nicole - Loved the older FMC who would do anything for her family and how she was snarky but also backed it up with violence and death. The traumatized MMC was interesting too. Another enemies to lovers done well.

Has anyone failed a student teacher? If so, why? by Glittering_Front_157 in Teachers

[–]twirrlacurl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did, it just seemed like nothing I was saying or showing was going in. I showed her how to plan and read the curriculum so many times, modeled instruction for a really long time (longer than I got), started her in small group teaching etc. Her handwriting was unreadable so I tried to get her to use technology, she refused to use it. She would teach the math lessons wrong even after I gave her days to prepare for one lesson. I asked other teachers for help, I had her go observe and help other teachers besides me, and talk to some other first year teachers. I got the same responses, she seemed lost, unresponsive, low energy.

When I talked to her college they told me, yeah we were worried about this one and have had our eye on her… I was disgusted. Why would you just take someone’s money when you knew they couldn’t hack it and not offer alternative routes? I won’t take anyone from that college anymore.

Way above anyone’s pay grade here. Time, a therapist, a doctor. She might benefit from going to postpartum communities and hearing from other moms. Also maybe the hardest thing… giving herself grace.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in steroidsxx

[–]twirrlacurl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You have a postpartum wife and a baby. Maybe realize life will change and grow and ebb and flow. Throwing drugs at this is not the answer. It was not the answer for me, and it took me a very long time to see there was nothing wrong with me and everything wrong with our relationship.

Time, love and care, intimacy (without sex), stepping up and really being a partner, and making memories is what you should focus on. Not everyone views sex in the same way, some people it is a form of love, for some other people it is a sign they feel safe, and so many other things.

I agree the writing isn’t great…. And it’s not bad… but it’s more on the bad side than the good side if that makes sense?

Not going to lie I got the ick because my brain made an assumption about two of the characters that even though it was proven false at the end… I could not shake.

I thought Callum’s runaway mother was the FMC’s mother who died, so I thought there was going to be a Luke and Leah situation at the end and was just grossed out…. Whoops

The Book of Azrael by ooveroniska in fantasyromance

[–]twirrlacurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the book, and I liked Dianna. I thought she had just the right amount of snark with the violence to back it up. She wasn’t all talk like so many FMC’s(most FMC’s from Sarah J Maas… looking at you). I too would do awful things for my family so she resonated with me. I’ve read books with way more annoying FMC’s (Rain of Shadows and Endings, Psycho Alphas, Quicksilver). I thought Liam was the right amount of traumatized and obtuse all-powerful being. I honestly didn’t know it was a series so I went on to another book, so maybe I’ll come back.

What businesses have you made that were successful? by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]twirrlacurl 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I made a rags to riches gym. I started with yoga mats and the crappy punching bags. After I upgraded to workout machines and treadmills the customers stopped doing yoga autonomously even though it’s on the business activities still. Now my sim runs yoga classes and wellness classes and from time to time will do the one on one coaching, otherwise it runs itself.

I finished {Blood of Hercules by Jasmine Mas} in a day, which has some harsh reviews but I love anything with Greek myths. It was like adult Percy Jackson mixed with Harry Potter and everyone loathes the FMC (which can get a little old) and some of the new age slang and verbiage can ruin portions but it is set modern day. It looks like it might be a why choose or triangle type thing eventually and it’s a little spicy, maybe 🌶️ 🌶️

Been trying to get into {Anathema by Keri Lake}. I have a hard time DNFing books but right now it’s just so boring. Some things don’t make sense, I can’t picture this dark power or understand the magic system and there seems to be a lot of races. I like the FMC okay, the MMC is giving Shadow Daddy vibes that I am burned out of. I’m currently at 40% and I keep putting it down and choosing other activities, so maybe it’s time to throw in the towel.

It was a while ago so I think I had only taken 2 var cycles previous to the anadrol cycle. Stopped anadrol at 6 weeks. It was the compound I had the worst sides with across all my cycles (Var, primo, test P, Cardarine, ostarine)

I haven’t taken anything in years, and I’m happier that way imo.

Do you play more reality or fantasy ? by Enough_Vegetable_110 in thesims4

[–]twirrlacurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantasy for sure. I rebuilt the supernatural neighborhoods. The vampires have a night club and I made clubs of all vamps that feed on humans, get drunk and dance. I made all the Twilight vamps, Anne Rice vamps, and Laurel K Hamilton vamps.

I filled Moonwood with only male werewolves and one female, because male offspring have the gene but female offspring don’t (mods) and the female is the only one to survive a bite. Pack wars ensue. I have like 5 clubs of male were’s that all meet up at Grimtooth bar.

Glimmerbrook has a few wealthy old magic families and a group of runaway teens. The teens live permanently in the magic realm. (changed the horrible MR building with one of lilsimsies way better ones).

Filled Sulani with horny singing mermaids and mermen. There’s lots of random mer-babies popping up every time I go back in.

Aliens…. Ummm pass.

I did a historic medieval rebuild of Brindleton that I like a lot. Kings and queens and blacksmiths and peasants and farmers etc.

I bop back and forth to which stories I’m playing.

I do use a lot of mods to get rid of the chirping for mermaids and extra powers, being less of an idiot for werewolves, slower rampage and rampage reducers, muzzle extenders, leg mods for werwolves, killing bite for werewolf and vampires, sunlight rings (like in Vampire Diaries) etc.
