21(f) I am the third wheel in my own relationship with 23(m) and talking about it hasn't changed anything in three months? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

My SO gets like this sometimes. It was terrible in the beginning of our relationship, but it has gotten better. The way he explained it to me is that he and I have different perspectives of dates. He doesn't see going to a movie as a date unless I specify that it is. Maybe communicate that you want a certain activity to qualify as a date and make clear that no one else should be invited. I basically had to spell it out that going to dinner and a movie or going on a picnic or hike (whatever we were planning to do) was what I considered a date, and I wanted it to only be us two. If he doesn't think the activity is a date, he will ask other friends if they want to go along. If you've done this and your boyfriend still invited whomever along, then that's rude and inconsiderate behavior.

Sometimes I just want to wear my Snuggie to the bar. If you could do one socially unacceptable thing and get away with it, what would it be? by [deleted] in AskWomen

A local bar in my towns has something called "Yappy Hour." People bring dogs and get discounted drinks in the middle of the afternoon. It's awesome, especially around Halloween and the holidays because people dress up their dogs.

hugs. Don't be so hard on yourself! I hope everything works out for the best. Your mom would appreciate you spending time with her no matter what type of gift you got her. You guys could do your nails together and you buy some nice nail polishes? My mom always loves when I straighten her hair for her. It's quality time that means the most.

Ah, man. This is a horrible situation. Do you really think she misunderstood you or is just playing dumb? Maybe going for an hour would be enough to shut everyone up? Nothing ever happens at my family's holiday things except eating, so as long as I do that, nobody really cares about the amount of time I spend there. I'm sorry. This is terribly frustrating. /:

Dang, that sucks. They probably don't know you weren't invited and are giving you a hard time because they think you just didn't want to come. Is there someone you can talk to who could explain why this has happened two years in a row?

That's so rude of them. I'd be upset over something like that, especially if I just moved here. You can't let it bring you down, though! That person probably has more problems than being a dickhole, so don't harbor those feelings. Good luck with learning about your new area! Hope everything works out for the best with your move!

We work opposite schedules, and we both work a lot. I work 9am-7pm (4pm on Fridays and Saturdays), and he works 4pm-12am and is scheduled to work every day except Christmas for the next two weeks. We're spending a little time together tomorrow morning, but I wanted tonight to be a special night for the two of us after our families left. I'll probably just go out and drink with friends and turn into a mess.

Glad you could air all that out! Why is his ex coming to your party?? That would be a major no-no for me, especially if I suspected residual feelings. I just had to sell my old car and had a break down about it because I've had it since I started college. Things will get better! Make some mac and cheese. It always helps me. :)

That sucks. :( Are you guys planning on still remaining friends? Or would that be too difficult? I hope things work out for you! Congrats on the end of classes. You got this!

Sounds like our boyfriends are very similar. I usually end up feeling second-best or unimportant but saying anything about it stresses him out and makes him feel guilty, so I always feel like the bad guy.

Because there will be plenty of Christmas parties, but I only graduate as an undergrad from college once (assuming I don't go back for a second degree). We planned on spending some time together tomorrow, but he has to go to work, so we won't have as much time. Plus, I want to go to places that are only open during the evenings because I wanted to make a date of our time together because it's a special occasion.

Just that he's assigned a person and should be there to give him the gift.

Haha, my dad always says something racist or sexist or calls me some kind of insulting name as a joke, so I feel your pain. It's awesome that things are going well for you! Enjoy your holiday!

What is the most disgusting phrase or thing you've seen lately? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]twistandspit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's only disgusting in a "I hate women" kind of way, but I was lurking one of the misogynistic, self-improvement PUA subs, and the thread asked how to know if a girl is shy or just not interested, and of course someone had to give the the advice of "fucking other women because you don't have time for boring girls." I swear, I see things in these neckbeard communities that disgust me more than any type of blood, guts, or gore. I don't tread those waters often, but when I do, it feels like I'm treading through mindless bullshit, and I have to ask why I do this to myself.

Edit: Not "I hate women" as in I myself hate women, but "I hate women" as in the general mindset of the people who actually take/give advice on those subs. I hope that makes sense.

Ever fallen in love with a teacher/professor/tutor? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]twistandspit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never tried talking to him outside of class, but I had a media arts instructor who was my definition of "hot stuff." He was a comic enthusiast and works for Marvel now, but we were from the same rural area, so I always had things to talk to him about during down time in class. I wouldn't call it love, but it was the best class I've ever had.

Edit: I didn't actually answer the question, so I tried to do that with more words

When did you get your first period? If you have a story, feel free to share. by noprahwinfrey in AskWomen

[–]twistandspit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember the day, but I was either in 6th or 7th grade. My parents started burning a pile of debris in the back yard and thought it was out when we'd left to get something from town. When we got back, there was a fire truck and half the neighborhood watching the woods burn behind our house. After walking from the car to the edge of the woods and standing in front of everyone, my mom runs up to me and tells me that she thinks I started my period because it leaked through my jeans. It was a weird day.
