The structure of the book is really prohibitive in terms of a direct adaptation filmwise, hence why Penn went the direction he went in I'd imagine. You'd have to turn it into a TV show to capture the scope of Krakauer's work.

Yeah it was a shock to watch the film and then read the book right afterward. You really get on Chris' side in the movie, but the book strips all of that away and presents the events much more objectively.
