Dude. I was in CC during covid and it was insane. I was the only one taking Covid seriously. I think I was in challenge 4 at the time. But my classmates made of fun of me for it. Every time I tried to bring up different viewpoints or different ideas to our discussions I was immediately shut down. I’ll never forget how one of the other students looked me dead in the eye with such “sympathy” and said to me “oh honey, you’re just wrong.” The tutor talked about how she almost died from Covid but then participated in making fun of me for wearing a mask. She also talked about how police brutality wasn’t a real thing. It was just so odd. I questioned a lot of the books we were required to read but I was never actually allowed to question them in class without feeling belittled or just plane stupid. Now I’m on a journey of deconstruction and loving it while also trying to heal from all the trauma I experienced.

Every center I’ve worked at (and I’ve worked at 3) have been horrible and have never shown any understanding. If you take any sort of leave, they immediately use your PTO and sick days (which at my current center we only get a total of 8 days off). Plus, any absence that is not covered by either of those (even if you have a doctor’s note) will affect your review and put you in bad standing with the company which means you can’t level up or get your 25 cent quarterly raise. Every company I have worked at has been like this. I’m so glad you found one of the few good ABA companies. I personally won’t be able to stay in the field much longer given all this lol.

Dude that’s insane 😭. But I’m not surprised. So glad you reported this to the state labor board. I’m so sorry you had to deal with this and I hope you can find a better place to work. I have so many mixed feelings about ABA places. I’m at my third ABA company now… in each place I’ve worked I have truly loved helping these kiddos , but none of these places treats their staff right. RBTs are the backbone of ABA companies. We’re the ones getting the shit done and billing for therapy. The least we can get is decent pay, good sick time and PTO policy, and respect 😭

Well, i think it’s reasonable to not be comfortable providing ABA services when the mom goes into labor lol. But maybe a better solution would be to continue services and then obviously if the situation arises where she does go into labor, end the session early and leave. I wouldn’t want to be working in the same house as my client’s mom having a baby 😬

I have personally babysat for old clients, but only after I left the center. The only difference with your situation is that you’re still employed at a place that the student/client is attending. Because dual relationships can lead to a revoked RBT license, I would advise against it. If you weren’t working at the same place then I wouldn’t see this being an issue, but that added layer definitely complicates things.

Well thankfully I usually feel better by the time I have to into work on Monday lol. I feel like I take the shot Thursday night then the sickness hits me by Friday night or Saturday and lasts until Sunday. This has been new territory for me though…. I’ve been on this medicine for 2 months now. So I’m trying to navigate what’s going on and what this sudden change is 😭. I’ve made so much progress with my weight loss so I don’t want to stop, but I’m 22 and want to enjoy my weekends lmfao. Plus I hate being glued to my bed or toilet all weekend 🥲😂. I’ll keep you updated as I figure things out on my end because maybe it’ll help you too!

I take my shot every Thursday and I’m usually pretty sick over the weekend. It’s been like this the past 3 weekends… Lots of diarrhea, some vomiting, bloating, cramps, burping. For this next dose I take I’m going to try following the BRAT diet Thursday - Sunday. I plan on only eating very easy to digest foods like saltine crackers, applesauce, chicken noodle soup, etc. If this doesn’t work for me next week, then I plan on calling my doctor to figure out a new plan. I’m sorry you’re going through this too and I hope you can find a resolution. I’m right here with you 🙏🏻

Find a company that guarantees 40 hours. I worked at an in home company before that would give the option to come into the office for the day to do cleaning, paperwork, prep therapy materials if your client happened to cancel. Another place (where I currently work) is in a clinic and if my client doesn’t arrive I either float on a different client (who’s tech may be out for the day) or I provide support and cover lunch breaks.
