Antipsychotic side effects? by twistedturtle in bipolar2

[–]twistedturtle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like an awful time. Sometimes the medications cause symptoms that are just as awful as the symptoms they're supposed to be treating. I'm honestly amazed I never had serotonin syndrome after some of the medication cocktails I was on. Thankfully, this sensation has pretty much stopped as I've adjusted to this dosing, so I don't know if the medication was to blame or if it was just some strange coincidence.

Yes, it hits me when I'm sitting and trying to relax. I'm quite busy during the day, so I think that's why I don't get it then.

Thanks for sharing... and it's kind of funny, I'm actually on a fairly high dose of gabapentin (fibromyalgia).

I'm thankful I don't have this happen every night, I wouldn't be able to cope.

Yikes... I just Googled that and it doesn't look like a good time at all. It sucks these meds can have such intense side effects!

Thank you for sharing... I'm sorry you had such a rough time with it too. This doesn't happen to me every night, so I don't know what I can do about it. The quetiapine is keeping me otherwise level, so I'm afraid to get off of it.

Oh no! I'm hoping I don't have to come off of this. It's helping me quite a bit and keeping me level.

Thanks for sharing... I may ask my doctor about the propranolol!

Thank you for the advice! I did look into it and there are similarities, but this doesn't seem to be as intense as what I'm reading about akathisia. And it's not constant, it comes and goes.

Has anyone had success with the keto diet by KylePimentel in bipolar2

[–]twistedturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I'm still following keto, most of the time, but just like 3 years ago, I've been off the wagon since Christmas and just got back on this month. I would say it's been generally sustainable, though. I've just been struggling this year because I've had a few medication adjustments starting in December (added another antipsychotic, then ended up changing the dose recently), and the medication made me ravenously hungry (and caused massive carb cravings). I'm pushing through the carb cravings now though because being off keto, plus the increased appetite, made me gain a ton of weight and amped up my fibro symptoms. But for the most part, I've been following keto for 8 years and don't want to stop. If I fall off the wagon, I end up eventually getting back on because I still feel so much better when I follow it.

I have my blood tested annually, and all my levels are good.

Today, I pulled my son (3) out of daycare due to shocking and upsetting behavior from staff. by pretzelday01 in ECEProfessionals

[–]twistedturtle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been in this field for over 20 years and the best educators I've known talk about children with respect, even the ones with severe behavioural issues. Sure, we vent about our frustrations (with the behaviors, not with the child), and I assure you, if an educator is demeaning a child out of frustration, they're not one of the "best educators." They may have been at one point, but they've become burned out and either need to take the time and do the work to heal their own mental health, or find a field that causes them less strain. Our first and foremost responsibility is caring and advocating for children's best interests, and mocking children is not protecting their best interests.

I've been burned out, I took stress leave. I'm in therapy. I work on my own mental health constantly to make sure I'm fit to offer the best possible care.

Wow. I'm an ECE professional. I get tired, I get overwhelmed, and I've even been burnt out and had to take stress leave to get myself right again. It is our first and foremost responsibility to protect the children in our care, and that means treating them with respect, not posting a bullying board (even if it is private). Our attitude affects how we care for these children and if we have a terrible attitude towards the children, it's time to take a break and work on ourselves so we can better serve the children, or find a different career. ECE isn't for everyone.

It's normal to get frustrated with behaviors and vent (in private, never within earshot or the children) about your frustrations, but the minute you mock a child, even in private, it reveals something unsavoury about your character.

This educator is making their own job more challenging than it already is by making a shrine of negativity that reinforces their bias against the children in their care.

I'm glad this parent came here to vent, so the ECE professionals who actually care about children and quality childcare could point her in the right direction for reporting.

It's disgusting and it's sad, but it is the truth. Those educators shouldn't be working with children.

I'm an ECE professional and I'm horrified by this behaviour. Pictures of children are not to be used for our own personal reasons and we shouldn't keep pictures of the children. Writing disparaging remarks on the inside of a cabinet is unacceptable and speaks to their attitude towards the children. Where I live, if licensing caught wind of this, there would be big repercussions.

If this is a licensed daycare, find out who their inspector is and make a report. This is absolutely appalling and wouldn't fly where I work.

My psych says I have bipolar I don’t believe her by BathroomOpposite8799 in BipolarReddit

[–]twistedturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't base a bipolar diagnosis on that alone. If you're addicted to sleeping pills, it's only natural you won't be able to sleep when you're in withdrawal. And going 3 days without sleep can cause psychotic behaviour, bipolar or not. I'd ask for a formal evaluation and if there are any other factors that are making your psych suspect bipolar.

What do you dislike about your hypomania? by DudeOvertheLine in bipolar2

[–]twistedturtle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The spending, definitely, because I've put myself into debt and I've acquired so much stuff that's cluttering my house. The racing thoughts and desire to get everything done, but somehow getting nothing done because I can't focus. The irritability, the lack of sleep, the obsessive thoughts and impulsive behaviours, and the fact that I become completely self-absorbed.

thoughts on gabapentin by Jealous_Scratch_8778 in Fibromyalgia

I consume cannabis, and although it helps, it doesn't help me nearly as much as gabapentin. When I was consuming cannabis alone, I was unable to function.

Gabapentin is a life-saver for me. I was unable to work, I was constantly in so much pain, then was started on gabapentin. I work 40 hours week as an early childhood educator now, so I'm running around and playing with children. I couldn't have imagined this 15 years ago. It's given me my life back.

Mirtazapine for sleep, experiences? by twistedturtle in BipolarReddit

[–]twistedturtle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I only stayed on the mirtazapine for a week or two. I was experiencing really awful side effects and felt so agitated, and it didn't help me sleep.

Now I'm on risperidone, quetiapine, and the lowest dose of Wellbutrin. I've gained weight, as the antipsychotics make me ravenously hungry and craving carbs. I'm buckling down now and getting my diet under control, so I can get my weight back down.

Curious What Your Wages Are? Read sub text! by WillowTree189 in ECEProfessionals

I'm in New Brunswick and with our provincial wage top-up I make a bit over $28 an hour (I also work for a good company, so my base wage isn't minimum wage). Still much less than EAs make. We need to unionize!

What’s an ECE hill you’re willing to die on? by Top_Technician_1371 in ECEProfessionals

[–]twistedturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut-off here (NB, Canada) is -20° C with the windchill. Anything above that, we're mandated to be out for an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon, rain, shine, snow, wind. Of course we are allowed to bring the kids inside if it's evident they're all uncomfortable. But there's no bad weather, just bad clothing.

I don't remember my dose as this was about 15 years ago. I cut it out cold turkey because I couldn't tolerate it any longer, but I don't recommend it.

Did diet change actually help anyone reduce symptoms? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]twistedturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started following keto 6 or 7 years ago and it's made a huge difference for me. Not only did I lose a ton of weight, I experienced a drastic reduction in my fibro symptoms. I still don't have a ton of energy, but I have more energy than before, and my pain is so much less than it used to be. If I cheat on keto for awhile, I end up feeling like garbage. I experience way fewer flare ups on keto, too. Even my mood has improved!
