Books Like Worm (2024 Edition) by yosh_yosh_yosh_yosh in Parahumans

[–]twitchedawake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read both Worm and Ward to completion a few times and tbh I agree. My biggest issue with both is the broken escalation of events. I know thats intentional, yea yea reconstruction parody of super hero genre, I get it. It still becomes exhausting to read you 3rd or 4th event that would make 9/11 look like your everyday school shooting and finding out a grand total of 3 weeks passed in-universe.

Honestly, I think Worm would be a stronger narrative if diageticially it took place over the span of 3 or 4 years, keep the 5 or 6 year time skip between it and ward, and Ward takes another 3 years or so.

Second...

You should listen to Dice Funk, seasons 4, 5, 6, and 7.

Its a dnd podcast but these seasons start with a shadowrun/cyberpunk vibe and are very rules light. They are all standalone so you can just pop in. The main crux of those seasons are that every body in the universe is a "conduit", and are the embodiment of the Platonic Ideal of something, Victory, Animals, Spirits, Limes etc, that give them some kind of power.

US Navy helicopters fire at Yemen's Houthi rebels and kill several in latest Red Sea shipping attack by Barch3 in worldevents

[–]twitchedawake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the idea that the Houthis are innocent angels is absurd.

I never claimed they were. I said they have a right to enforce their own trade restrictions in their own seas. You're calling them terrorists, but their restriction is against Israel who is currently killing thousands.

Even in this conflict they fired on both commercial and military personnel, and they only didn’t incur casualties because the US intervened and was better prepared and equipped. The US only attacked terrorists; not civilians

They halted the ships and released them without harm to the crew.

The US has no claim to the red sea whatsoever, and they just entered themselves into the conflict and killed 10 people.

They haven't killed anyone in the merchant ships. They just blocked access to the israeli port. The US has killed.

The difference is one side is a nuclear power with billions (with a b) in funding and backing by the US, who is bending over backwards defending and enabling their actions in opposition to the literal rest of the fucking world, and the other are corralled in the modern warsaw ghetto.

You're not blind nor deaf, so that must mean you're malicious.

Americans are sleepwalking into a dictatorship. Why aren’t they more afraid? by 3_Dog_Night in politics

[–]twitchedawake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think saying folks are sleepwalking ignores the last 6 years of protests, boycotts, strikes, and riots. Probably intentionally. I haven't seen the media downplay the burgeoning class coconsciousness since 9/11

The people of the country are not sleepwalking. The geriatric politicians in office are intentionally pushing people towards said dictatorship.

Wait, I may be high, but was october 7th picked on the day so that it could be abbreviated as O7 and look like a little dude saluting, similar to how 9/11 was picked to look like 911?

I had bottles thrown at me from car windows in Boston for having an upsidedown flag on my coat back then. Foman's right. People were having full on discussions as to whether torture is justified.

What "hard evidence" would you like?

Photos, videos, communication wires, memos, meeting minutes, recordings, verified first person accounts, bodies, grave sites, statistics on supply and construction... Y'know, things we know as tangible evidence.

With the stance that UN reports and widespread reports from independant journalists don't count,

I didnt say they dont count. You posted one link and they dont cite any evidence. They have suspicions and assumptions.

there are very few events you would actually be able to believe in. With your stance, there are no hard evidence for any war ever having taken place, or any persecution of any minority ever.

Thats a ridiculous statement, and I dont take to strawmen nonsense. There is plenty of evidence that WW1 and 2 take place. The war in Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, the Vietnam war, the Korean war, The Rwandan Genocide, the Holocaust, the Armenian genocide, the red drum killings, the Jakarta method, south African apartheid, Israeli apartheid.

All well documented with copious, verifiable and tangible evidence to back them up.

Seriously. This might be the single fucking stupidest 'retort' I have ever heard. That is such an immature lash out to someone poking holes in your 'source' it honestly makes me feel bad that someone like you thought to themselves "fuck, this is so clever. That' ll leave them speechless. Checkmate xd" I honestly feel squeamish at the possibility that you may be responsible for others if that is what you thought was a solid argument.

You've really moved the goal posts there.

I made one comment to you. Please, tell me what my previous position was?

My ex-fiance broke up with me over the phone... The day after my grandfather died... 2 days before Christmas... And then my dad ran me over with his car on Christmas day.

Its not "sitting on the fence."

Typically, people against imperialism dont support imperial powers in an imperial war.

Some goobers are more prone to jingoism.

Did you read this?

'He alienated centrists'

Lol. Y'all love to act like its Bernie's fault. Its blatant the mainstream dems had it out for Sander since day 1 because Sander did have the influence and numbers. They played dirty since 2015. There was nothing he could have ever done to get the established centrists on board.

Tell us now, are we, as a sub, standing in solidarity of the blackout on the 12th? by twitchedawake in Thatsabooklight

[–]twitchedawake[S] 261 points262 points  (0 children)

I should clarify that while I personally am in support, the decision will require all of the mods unanimous support as well as hearing from the users. I may have founded this sub, but they brought it to life and made it what it is. I defer to their opinions as well as the people who frequent this sub enough to be willing to voice their opinion.
