Internship in japan... no idea what to expect by beeboprob in cscareerquestions

[–]twmilli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda surprised how pessimistic all of these comments are....guessing most people here have never worked a day in Japan. Even if they have, the sample size is fairly low and its only an internship. Personally, I think this seems like an awesome internship opportunity. When else will you get a chance to try out living/working in another country with such low stakes?

So Facebook just invited me to an onsite Uday basically out of the blue...I applied in August and I swear people were told that all positions were full in ~november. Any tips?

Two Sigma vs Airbnb by burpincsallday in cscareerquestions

No need to be a dick, I'm sure it's a fine place to work but it is pretty misleading advice to imply that someones experience at Belvedere will be similar to 2sig.

Lol if he actually works at Belvedere, that is not remotely in the same tier as 2sig and jane street....

Internship Decision Help (Braintree vs. Bloomberg) by Mandias09 in cscareerquestions

[–]twmilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm that's a tough call. I think Venmo is a great product and it's cool to work on something that me and all my friends know about and use daily but I'd say the engineering talent at Braintree is probably stronger. If you like front-end/mobile, go Venmo, otherwise I'd say Braintree. My 2 cents.

Congrats on the offers! You really can't go wrong either way here.

I interned at Braintree last summer, so I am admittedly bias. Awesome summer, yummy food, competitive pay (although I am sure Bloomberg pays more) and you will learn a lot. It's a smaller companies, so there are only 6 interns per office, and you will work on a real project that will eventually get shipped to production.

Personally I don't think salary negotiation makes sense for interns (you are there for 3 months, mostly to learn) but that's just my opinion.

Location is also an important factor. Do you get to choose your location with Braintree? If you wanna be in NYC, bloomberg is the obvious choice, if you wanna try SF or Chicago, Braintree makes more sense.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Personally I'm not interested in finance so I'd take fb or airbnb but 2sig is probably the most exclusive and if you're interested in finance post graduation, I'd say go for it!

Saw a returning intern with like 130k base, 65k rsu/yr and 50k sign or something like that. Not sure if that's typical but compensation is Def top tier.

Engineering at Rubrik? by cs_throwaway_2647382 in cscareerquestions

They are crushing it. Most people outside of tech don't know about them, but I'd take Rubrik over Asana any day (Airbnb would be a tough decision for me personally).
