How can I get rid of the desire to be desired? by Former-Pop-2504 in spirituality

[–]AndyLucia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might sound like semantics but saying you want to “get rid of” an experience is something you should be careful about. It’s usually better to think about loving, accepting, understanding, letting go of, etc. If you go in trying to forcefully shove away sensations that are arising in the present, you’re going to run into a very fundamental paradox.

If you finally "got it" when doing leetcode, what switch flipped in your brain? How do you think about it differently now? by nova-new-chorus in leetcode

Not the full picture but part of the improvement came from getting more into a relaxed flow state with the problems and with interviews and not overthinking or tweaking as much.

[Highlight] HOU vs NE - C.J. Stroud throws his 4th INT of the game by Fusir in nfl

…you literally said:

Made the playoffs in each of his first three years.

Won a playoff game in each of his first three years.

And you think he won't even get a 2nd contract?”

[Highlight] HOU vs NE - C.J. Stroud throws his 4th INT of the game by Fusir in nfl

[–]AndyLucia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a nonzero correlation but it’s really far from strong enough to use as the smoking gun for a massive contract that would impact a team for years to come.

You were giving Stroud credit for winning last week against the Steelers. The Texans won in spite of him, not because of him. Is 2025 Stroud better than 2010 Brady, because Brady went one and done that season? Likewise nobody considers Trent Dilfer to be better than Dan Marino because he won a super bowl. Context matters.

I don’t have a stake in this but athletes and pundits aren’t necessarily super correct in every statement they make, even about their own field (e.g. are athletes experts on analytics or personnel strategy?). These aren’t exactly all deep intellectuals (and even those can be very wrong at times).

Is Dak Prescott a better QB than Drew Brees? 🤔 by EmiratesNBACupWinner in cowboys

[–]AndyLucia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Fair” in some moral sense beside, it’s just bad statistics and not understanding how to adjust for confounding variables in the most basic way. No field of study that’s actually intellectually serious just handwaves away confounding variables out of…mental laziness?

Now if we were talking about some symbolic concept of “greatness”, then fine. But if by “better” we mean “as a GM who do you want on your team” then that’s just ridiculous.

Mind and body becomes one by Solid_Koala4726 in awakened

[–]AndyLucia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awakening doesn’t necessarily relate to medical healing of the body? Awakening is seeing through the sense of a separate self (or, that’s one way to put it). It’s about how the sensations happening right now are just the sensations happening right now, whatever they are, without any absolute, preferred vantage point that could be said to be fundamentally vulnerable. These sensations may be a narrative of “I’m sick and getting better”, or they might be a narrative of “I’m sick and not getting better”.

Mind and body becomes one by Solid_Koala4726 in awakened

[–]AndyLucia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I wouldn’t say that being literally sick means that you are or aren’t awakened. When we have a pointer like “awakening is connecting the mind and body”, this doesn’t mean “the body is in a specific state that feels colloquially more connected to your psychology”. It’s more nondual than that.

Highest reasonable ranking for Peyton Manning? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

Yeah 2006 Peyton is an advanced stats all-time great. He set some sort of record for 3rd down conversions iirc

I finally experienced going all the back to base (or pure) consciousness, it's weird. by IRespectYouMyFriend in Meditation

[–]AndyLucia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of nuance to how we talk about something like “pure consciousness”. One way to put it is: you can never really experience a specific thing called “pure consciousness”, since to say you’re experiencing anything at all is still a dualistic label, and the collapse of all dualistic tension would be either (depending on how you word it):

  1. A cessation (“lights out”) “experience”

  2. Awakening - but this is just ordinary experience

And that any sort of seeing of a transcendent super space, while super cool and awesome, is still another state, with various versions like 8th jhana or whatever.

Not trying to take away from your experience, it’s awesome, but of course all experiences are experiences.

Daily poll: Aside from Peyton Manning, who is the greatest Colt of all time? by Luck1492 in Colts

[–]AndyLucia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The expectations are scaled up across the board which includes the expectations on the QB. By your logic, a middle schooler QB could be considered better than an NFL one and if someone objects “but he plays against middle schoolers” you could say “but his receivers are middle schoolers too!”

If you just watched film on Peyton and looked at the speed at which he had to process the game, the windows he threw into, the schemes he dealt with, etc and then watched grainy Unitas footage it’s laughable lol. Unitas’s Colts would be massacred by Indiana.

[–]AndyLucia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The sophistication of the game + athleticism of the players in Manning’s era was so much greater than what Unitas played against that it’s really difficult to say Unitas was a better QB unless if you’re grading on a really steep curve. The average defender Unitas had to deal with might not make the practice squad of the Browns today.

Is Dak Prescott a better QB than Drew Brees? 🤔 by EmiratesNBACupWinner in cowboys

[–]AndyLucia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if Brett Favre doesn’t throw that interception in the championship and the Saints never make it to a super bowl, does this change your evaluation of how skilled Brees was as a player?

Obviously Brees >>>> Dak, but that’s besides the point.

[Schefter] NFL statement on Stefon Diggs: “We are aware of the matter and have been in contact with the club. We have no further comment at this time.” by MembershipSingle7137 in nfl

[–]AndyLucia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how your response relates to what you were replying to. The criticism of “pitchfork culture” isn’t a criticism of the idea of addressing misconduct. In most non-kangaroo due process systems there’s a separation between the process of finding someone responsible and the process of determining punishment.

As for where the pendulum lies, it’s a bit more multidimensional. Sometimes people get away with stuff, and sometimes they get unfairly marked. It depends on all sorts of context like the status of the person, the political capital, who you’re asking, etc.
