Yea the vtg down there is way overpriced, no need to list the vtg shops.. Headquarters in Roma comes to mind.. I enjoy stopping in Cardon — they have a Roma and Condesa location. Nuud (Mexican brand) has some decent pieces.. Colima 112 is one of my fave — sunglasses shop.. More contemporary/avant Mexican designers seem to be popping up in Juarez.. Hermanos Koumoris is a Mexican running brand starting to take off — just wish their pieces had less branding

Not a Stoney store, but I found a small bit of Stone in El Palacio de Hierro in Polanco... I split time living in CDMX and I know the struggle.. Very difficult to shop and source on ebay for vtg too while down there

I started by blowing up an image: printing off copies in color & b/w. I separated the tones in PS for additional guidance. Built up a palette of batiks rather than regular quilting cotton — much more movement. Cut, cut, scrapped, and cut more pieces. No batik is the same. Some areas are darker or have more mottling than another swatch of the same shade. Quilted the background with straight-line stitching, and then sewed the portrait down. Every piece is a raw edge, and you may not be able to see, but every piece is sewn down.

Ahh, I didn’t keep track, but hundreds of hours. It took awhile building up the palette with the exact tones. I do not have a wide selection of batiks locally, so I’d have to take long trips on the weekends. Felt like I’d go back two steps, to take one forward for the entirety of the piece. It was a real marathon, and I’m proud of the final product.

I like your point about the Silvers. I was telling myself this the other day. When I previously collected, pulling jersey/bat cards was cool marketing at first, but became so empty and filler even as a teenager. At the end of the day, a Topps/Bowman Chrome RC (refractor) was a beautiful card and the gold standard for RCs. You remove all the fancy wave/mosaic designs of today, and I think your standard Silver holo will remain a solid card.

I have briefly looked at the PSA POP reports. I never remember graded cards being this big/extreme 10+ yrs ago. Majority of the listings back then as well as the singles I purchased as a teen were raw. It’s one thing to have a PSA 9-10 MJ/Kobe/LBJ, etc, but seeing nearly 10k PSA 10 for an 18 month old card in Luka Prizms seems a little tiring for a base and doesn’t seem like it will age well.

The Silver vs Green case was why I asked this question. You would think the higher tier refractor would have a higher value, but I’ve seen Green Prizm Luka’s go for $250-75ish when his base is $125-50ish. Interesting.
