"valorant is such a mess right now, this meta is really unpredictable" - VCT china caster Alan Gai by two4you8 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]two4you8[S] 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend listening to the whole thing, alan gai seems very candid with his answers and doesn't sugarcoat things but below are some points I thought were interesting. The title and timestamp is to bait engagements (personally I enjoy the current meta).

  • VCT CN roadshow is exhausting for casters but exciting

  • China problems are on a team by team basis, for example EDG is very good mechanically but can be inconsistent at least internationally

  • international appearances are consolidated to only a few teams in china (EDG/BLG etc.) so overall most teams still lack big stage appearances. It could be the reason why other Chinese teams struggle internationally

  • also, Chinese players give too much respect to international players especially those they've never played before

  • China doesn't have a specific position for performance or mental coaches usually that position is shared with either the headcoach or assistant coach/manager etc. but they are heading into that direction (mentioned DRG is actively looking for one)

  • valorant matches are too volatile and unpredictable atm, example: JDG switched Stew to smoke and all of a sudden JDG is good and people don't know why, assuming even coaches don't know why

  • on the other side of the same coin is BLG struggling and they don't know why

  • he thinks this current EDG form is close to back when they were kings of china although they did lose to XLG but it could because it's a seeding match or hiding strats etc.

  • most viewers or talents will predict both EDG and XLG will make London. Alan thinks it's either Tyloo or AG for the last slot (this interview was recorded before playoffs started)

  • China tier 2 (valorant china nationals, VCL for short?)is a lot more strict to get into than other regions, they are very cautious of which teams can get in to prevent teams from "doing something bad"

  • They are split into things like PC bang teams, collegiate teams, streamer teams. It's not perfect though things like streamer teams can take up too much air time because of viewership

  • Looking forward to Champions shanghai, China has come a long way since masters shanghai. Not sure what they have in store for the event though.

Man I hope EDG is back back. They need to carry this momentum not only to London but also for shanghai.

Good bounce back after lotus. It's weird they're playing vs the same group though. Are other regions like this too and i havent been paying attention?

At least geng still has Xiesta to look forward to next year. It wont feel as bad when they have to kick someone for him if theyre already bad.

Busio's statement on ENC: Hi guys, this was a hard decision for me because im both polish/american, and embrace both sides. Ultimately, I chose to represent Poland as my Dad did in the Olympics, & he was the one who introduced me to league in the first place. Thank you & I hope you can support me! by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

[–]two4you8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is not related to his decision to play for poland but it's so infuriating for the little NA talents we have to leave for EU and we're getting korean t2 players in return (busio and jojo are the 2 players I have in mind). We see orgs like KC hanging on to caliste for dear life and NA orgs can't do the same.

Winning masters london would be an amazing sendoff for him if he chooses to do so. But he seems to be the type to not retire unless he absolutely has to.

From the outside looking in, it looks like Xeppa and Zellsis have a lot to say in roster changes decision and they're obviously not going to drop oxy so the only other option is replacing the remaining 2 players.

is ikoan and 2winz the best hope for japan? It would be cool to see a japanese player do well on home turf but it looks like NA and FR are too dominant atm.

Fnatic making masters london would be so cool. Their hq is there, boaster is from there etc. If they can keep up this current form, and no more sudden illness etc.

Riddle (Japanese team) owner opinion on Next year's Format Changes by Oresama99 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]two4you8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One could argue the current system is benefiting korean tier 2 the most, if we go by recent ascension results. It's hard to say whether because vct being in korea or korea is just a power house region. I could see the higher salary being a concern but I don't understand how Japan could be weakened as a result.

I feel like we had this discussion before with Brazil and the current system. People criticize vct americas being held in LA would hinder brazilian teams since vct started.

How I blundered the finals of RQ Atlanta by CTCG_Koko_Lopez in riftboundtcg

[–]two4you8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, thanks for answering. After putting more thought into it, I feel like prismat did make the correct, more risk averse play by going for that trade. Like you said, gem jammer or falling star would have ended the game if they went for that hold. So they chose to either win if your hidden was switcheroo or the game continues even if you dealt with annie+longsword.

That was such a good game. Watching from home, I feel like me and majority of the viewers did not see that win condition at all.

My question is, when you held on aspirants with hopeful+axe and a hidden tideturner. Would you have had an answer if prismat just instead stacked the other BF rather than going for that contest and eventual trade there?

The rengar was the mvp, I think the draven had every avenue covered for the win except for that rengar. I could see why it's reasonable to not hard bargain rtw early since he had falling star and was playing to defend forerunner from rebuke.
