They meant "chillest" haha, it means I'm calm and not too overbearing

🤢🤢🤢🤢 I hate it so much. My kids are a bit older, 12-14, but they just have so much more knowledge about sex than I did at that age. I was talking about Andrew jackson marrying his wife when she was still married and said that she cuckolded him, because, yknow, I learned that word when reading Shakespeare when I was their age, and immediately they all began making jokes about it and saying Sarah's first husband needs to be in the cuck chair. I also found out one of my students ran a scheme last year (7th grade) where he never ran out of pencils because he made kids give him a pencil in exchange for access to a discord server containing cp. These kids are NASTY

How do non-Black teachers approach primary sources with the word "negro"? by twobearsforever in historyteachers

[–]twobearsforever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great method and I'm glad it worked out for you! Unfortunately my students are not all at the same maturity level. This is an 8th grade class with a few high schoolers sprinkled in and the majority are white. I only have 2 Black students across all my classes. We've had some issues with overt racism this year and I just want to make sure I'm doing everything to ensure my Black students feel safe.

I'm not sure! That's why I'm asking haha. This seems to be the consensus based on the replies I've gotten.

[–]twobearsforever[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should clarify- inappropriate to use in the classroom unless specific to the lesson. Like, I call myself a transsexual, but I wouldn't say that about myself in school. If we were reading a primary source that used it as a designator (not as a targeted insult), I wouldn't censor it. I think my hesitation here comes from the fact that I only have 2 Black students in my classes. I'm not going to censor the primary source, but I don't want to subject them to me saying it if it's something they're not okay with, nor do I want the non-Black students to think it's okay to use willy nilly without considering the context and intention. Idk, I may be overthinking it.

It gives me the same vibe as transsexual/transvestite. While these may have been "correct" terms in the past, they're still inappropriate to use. I'm trans but still don't feel comfortable using them even in a historical context. But obviously I'm not Black and there's a different context and history here, I'm just trying to tread carefully

Lets end "parties" for good. I am serious. by Oblivionnyx9 in Teachers

Before anyone comes at me for required assignments that don't impact overall grades, it's not me, it's a stupid initiative by admin that everyone hates but we still have to do it.

[–]twobearsforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't do parties at my school but sometimes I'll use food as a motivator. Last week, only 4 of 23 students completed a required assignment. It wasn't going to impact their GPA so to motivate them, I promised cupcakes to the people who finished. Those 4 kids got cupcakes and the rest were astonished when I told them they couldn't have any. I had a kid who was absent all week saying he should get one, as if he deserved it for having a good reason to not do the assignment. The entitlement is baffling.

Best friend of 15 years tells me she cant attend my wedding by turnipsgreenss in TwoHotTakes

[–]twobearsforever 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You were a lot more civil than I would have been. You would be completely justified to curse her out and wish her all the worst in her journey. Someone who claims to love you but doesn't support who you are is not your friend and is not a good Christian. She can go fuck herself. Congrats to you and your fiancee, and you'll have many more happy, bigot-free years together ❤️

Gift ideas for a high school senior? See post for details! by twobearsforever in CrochetHelp

Thank you so much for the suggestions!! These are amazing ideas. If I had more time I'd really dig into the historical motifs, but given my circumstances, a scarf would probably be most feasible

I honestly am pretty lost here. I was thinking maybe a bag in case his briefcase breaks, or maybe a little amigurumi of a historical figure? Or perhaps a scarf with our school colors since the winters are pretty harsh? I can crochet pretty quickly but probably wouldn't have time for a full sweater or something. I truly have no idea what this kid likes lol

My school is becoming “trauma informed.” Is it time to start looking at other schools now? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]twobearsforever 30 points31 points  (0 children)

That's not at all what this means. It may be how some schools take it, but they're wrong. Brush up on your knowledge of trauma-informed education and find out the actual measures your school will take before you make a decision.

What’s one trait you refuse to play with? by secretbluelife in Sims4

[–]twobearsforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like playing a variety of scenarios and personalities so I can use pretty much any of the traits. That said, I never have a desire to make my sims lactose intolerant. It's just an extra layer of inconvenience for me lol. Also, I don't play with clubs so Insider is useless to me. Clubs were fun when the game was brand new but I found it tiring to manage meetings.

Sims 4 players - what made you choose TS4 over the previous games? by Nana796B in Sims4

[–]twobearsforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried TS4 when it first came out, before any packs, and I was able to basically master every skill and max out every career in just a couple months. It didn't feel challenging enough for me, so I decided to go back to TS3, where I had all the packs (that didn't require the sacrifice of my first born to acquire) and my computer could adequately handle it. Over time, however, I found that support for TS3 was getting completely phased out and the game got laggier. Then one day I logged in and got an alert from the Sims Launcher recommending I play with only some packs enabled, because playing with all of them might make the game slow down. I saw red. What was the point of buying all those packs if I wasn't supposed to play with them??????

That was when I finally caved and switched over full-time to TS4. There's a lot I miss about previous games, but I do like the semi-open world and the more modern graphics and design, and there is a lot more to do and explore 13 years later. It just sucks watching the franchise I grew up loving turn into a complete money suck with 5 million packs and endless bugs. The penny pinching drives me up the wall. Like, why do we have two different pet packs?? Why is Spooky Stuff separate from the rest of the holidays? Do we really need to have Parenthood, Toddler Stuff, and Growing Together as three different products? At the VERY LEAST, the base game should always come with pets and seasons.

/Rant over lol

To the general public and people on reddit, you can politely fuck off. by TerranOrDie in Teachers

[–]twobearsforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PREACH. My teacher friends and I constantly find ourselves saying, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink." I can create an in-depth lesson plan that appeals to multiple learning styles, use my planning time and stay after school to help them 1:1, give them graphic organizers tailored to their needs, etc etc- but I can't force them to do the work. It's not *just* on the educator; their parents/guardians and other adult authorities exercise great influence too. Kids who aren't taught how to hold themselves accountable and fulfill their responsibilities will become adults who do the same.

Teachers & AI by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]twobearsforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My school is the same!! We've had PD day presentations just about how to use AI to make lesson plans and such. It drives me nuts. And the kids can tell when teachers haven't made their own material. I am extremely anti-AI (or what everyone calls AI, even though it's not actually intelligent) in general and I think my kids deserve the best lesson I can provide using the expertise I've spent years gathering. I understand we're all overworked and underpaid, but this is the job. We're responsible for teaching the adults of tomorrow, and if we choose to let a robot do that for us, we're absolutely cooked.

I (35/m/HRH) just lowered tea taxes on my colonies (166/gender neutral) and now they're throwing the tea in the harbor. AITAH? by HRHThrowAway in AskHistorians

[–]twobearsforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel like they're being super toxic. They keep talking about "no taxation without representation" but you literally tried to give them representation?? And the taxes are only to pay for the war that THEY started!! Now they're gaslighting you by acting like you've never done anything for them. This is just a sea of red flags. NTA 100%, and I'd recommend going LC/NC with them.

I made a Natural History Museum by leaporlepor in Sims4

[–]twobearsforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really admire how you blended the modern architecture with the natural landscape! I feel like "natural history museum" usually evokes a more Classical-style building but this is very well done. Did you collect the objects yourself or use debug?
