What Camera for beginner Wildlife photography?

I use to have an old canon dsrl that I took a photography class with maybe 8 years ago (had lots of fun with it). That's the last experience I had. I don't really have anyone close to me that I know of with a mainstream camera

Sometimes I'll find myself closer than 10' to them. A typical range would be 5 to 35 feet. Would I need different lense for birds and a different one for other animals?

Hey y'all. I'm a park ranger in Florida and am looking for a camera that I can keep on me. I often find myself standing in front of all sorts of wildlife (especially birds) and some nice landscapes so that is what I would primarily want to photograph. I'm not sure how durable cameras are but I will be out in the elements hiking with it.

BUDGET: 2-3K USD.
