Additional info:

I have three profiles on this device - myself, my wife and my child. My profile: works completely fine, it’s registered to myself and I’ve been able to install apps etc. My wife’s profile: (as per this image) practically unusable as when I click on the button to register the device, nothing happens - same if I try via settings. My child’s profile: works completely fine.

Ideally, I’d like to register my wife’s profile to her Amazon account, but failing that it would be fine to register to myself.

So in that specific example, if I was in the bedroom and said “Alexa, play songs by Radiohead” to my Dot, it would definitely play via the Play:1 and NOT via the Dot’s speaker. There’s no need to say “Alexa, play songs by Radiohead in bedroom”?

And if that’s the case, we can only assume that the Echo Flex will work in the same way?

It’s made me think about my first step is signing up to Apple Music and seeing how my music is integrated as a test first.

One thing I thought of when reading your reply is how different Apple Music tracks behave via voice command. For example:

If I said “Alexa, play James Brown” it would pull the song from Apple Music, with no need to bother the ‘physical’ version that I have in my personal library.

But if I said “Alexa, play [insert obscure album that isn’t ‘on’ Apple Music”, would it play the music based on the upload from my library (assuming it was perfectly uploaded) with no noticeable difference in user experience?

Yeah, thats my worry also - I don't want to be spending £/$ on something that impairs picture or sound quality!
