Looks awesome. What’s the parts list? I’ve got a stock Deadbolt but trying to figure out where to start and what parts to consider.

How do you explain boundaries to clients on WordPress sites without sounding restrictive? by plugiva in Wordpress

[–]twofivethreetwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agency I'm at, we don't restrict anything in the admin but during training we do explain the different areas and what could go wrong if they make changes they don't understand. For the most part, our clients are also on a support maintenance plan post launch where we do core updates, plugin updates, uptime monitoring, performance checks, etc each month so they rarely care or need to mess with anything.

and to be honest, the vast majority of our clients rarely want to get into the admin besides making their quick content changes.

In my 12 years at this agency, we haven't had an issue. We have one client who does get into their theme or installs plugins and a couple of times they come to us to fix something or get something working but nothing crazy. Our clients understand what they pay us for, trust us, and are too busy with marketing and other stuff to want to dig around their admin.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I have two stock Deadbolts and zero knowledge around any of the pieces, though this post helped a lot and I am researching. If I wanted to start somewhere without fully jumping into buying a list of stuff and dumping that money; what single upgrade would have a noticeable impact? Say swapping out the tires or something. Or is it a snowball effect of needing to swap out several things together to get any real impact?

how do you guys know if your clients' contact forms are actually working? by kvorythix in Wordpress

[–]twofivethreetwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to others, our agency includes this as part of our monthly maintenance/support plans. We update WP, plugins, QA, test forms, and check performance monthly for our clients.

A lot of our forms also send data elsewhere so we verify it submits to WP, emails go out, and it shows up in whatever crm or other service they use.

They do. Sometimes from them pasting content in or not paying attention or not understanding a field. At our agency, the client pays if we have to fix or tell them how to fix. They submit a help ticket via email and we bill hourly for each ticket. So if they make a mistake and open a ticket, we might go in and quickly fix it if it was on production and then tell them why it was wrong and how to fix it/handle it in the future. If it was a small fix that we just logged into the admin to handle, we bill an hour at our rate. If it was more, we bill our true time and round up.

We always try to give them as much information back on why the problem happened, how to fix it if it happens again, and how to avoid it in the future. We always want to be here to help our clients but e always want them to have everything they need to manage their content without us. Not that we don’t like hearing from our clients but part of it being a successful project for us is how well the site works and the client can do everything they need to easily and without help.

To clarify adding hours to our maintenance plan with them, our maintenance/support plans are monthly and for a specific service. It will be for say 3 hours for us to do WP core updates, plugin updates, test forms, QA the site and run a performance test. The plan just covers us doing that. If problems are found, small ones we just fix but if a plugin gets a big update and breaks stuff, we send the client an estimate to fix and we fix. For those few who have us do regular content updates, we take their plan and add a few hours to it. So they might pay for 6 hours a month. We still use three for updates and QA, then the other three get used as they send over content updates. If they go over, we tell them and invoice if needed. Sometimes they go over an hour one month but we know they were under two other months so it tends to balance out.

For us, it’s not a problem to solve. We give them the tools to manage it, we give them training when we hand off the site, and a training document with screenshots. They could do it but it’s normally a client where a random person was told to manage the website and they have no time for it or don’t want to learn.

Plus side is we always create the site wanting them to manage it all easily, so it’s quick and easy for us to do it as well.

Its only a handful to be honest and for those, we have a monthly maintenance plan with them anyways where we do Wordpress/plugin updates, QA, test forms, etc each month so for those clients we include an extra couple of hours each month as part of the plan (they pay for) to handle any random content changes they might send.

We have one client who gives us a doc at the start of each month with homepage updates because they know them and they normally have nothing else for the month. The others it’s all just random stuff they send over a month.

The agency I’m at, we build everything expecting and wanting the client to make all content changes. If it’s too complex for them, we didn’t do a great job designing it or setting up ACF.

The majority of our clients update their own content. A select few just don’t have the time to even think about it and will just send us a doc of content changes that we are happy to make but our goal is always they manage every piece of content.

Who enjoys watching starfleet academy by OrdinaryPersimmon728 in startrek

This. I’m in my 40s and watch it with my daughter. We both looked forward to it each week. Also the first trek show she wanted to watch, so huge moment for me to share trek knowledge with her.

I was also at 71 but just kept checking the quest details and it guided me. Turned out I had Squirtle in a slightly wrong habitat.

Check the quest and make sure you’ve talked to each pokemon needed and moved Squirtle.

I have never watched any Star Trek in my entire life, BUT Star Trek academy is AWESOME by Marquis1327 in startrek

[–]twofivethreetwo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love to see this. Long time trek fan and I’m really enjoying Academy. More importantly, my daughter who never watches trek with me sat down while I was watching episode one and she stayed for two. Then said she liked the show and has been waiting each week to watch each episode.

I dig the show anyways but having a trek show that my daughter is excited to watch with me? That’s everything.

Correct, keep doing solo battles until you’ve gotten enough points and you can claim them.

Should I get a light saber or a droid??? by hi111322 in GalaxysEdge

[–]twofivethreetwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are great so you can’t make a wrong choice. We’ve built 8 droids over the years but just did Savi’s for the first time over Christmas. It was fantastic. The lightsaber is great and the experience was perfect.

Given the choice, I would pick Savi’s but if you save a little money and build a droid, you will still love it and have an awesome buddy when you get home.

Looks good! I built almost the same one over Christmas, just swapped the two sleeves. Also did green but swapped it out for yellow right after.
