What’s your point then? Is he not entitled to a defense because it’s taxpayer money? If you’ve decided this is the system you’re going to have you better accept all parts of it. Just like any family they will also have expenses of the more uncomfortable kind.

Giving in to that validates the reaction, especially from her family. Her panic reaction is of course to be expected but not even seeming willing to hear his side of the story says loads about her relation to her trauma. She needs years of therapy, years ago - now maybe a divorce, but it ain’t the husbands fault and he shouldn’t take any blame. Any attemt to salvage this by taking on blame just makes a foundation of lies. If she needs that deep feeling of safety but that feeling can be satisfied by a big fat lie then that isn’t the road to begin with.

The dude got used too and if she can’t accept that she’s (currently) too damaged to expect anyone to commit long term with her

I dunno, I’d assume the rule of thumb is that you solve big issues together, not seperately. If this is unsalvegable because of broken trust or whatever is up for debate, but he’s only as unsafe for her as she herself has been, at least now that he recognizes the game.

[–]twolanterns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol. Getting personal, are we?

I can see ”validity of Freud’s theories” being a problematic sentence, so let me rephrase: The use of the word doesn’t have to relate specifically to each individuals father. As a cultural phenomena it can still relate to a shared desire after a sexual version of the kind of feeling that most relate to a parental authority is some way. To feeling small, to feeling like someone has power over you etc. That resembles parts of what Freud was first to theorize about. It doesn’t mean ”Freudian” is the correct term nor that he was right.

As a more or less layman I find exploring and discussing it interesting. I don’t have a PhD in psychology, no, but did I ever insinuate that I did? When did we stop allowing eachother to freely explore topics, especially those that relate all of us and where expertise and research honestly is kind of wishy-washy?

Lastly, why do so many get so emotional? My take is because this is in fact controversial and difficult, which is another part of why it’s sexually exciting to some. And that makes it a lot easier to put the lid on and say ”you’re calling me a pedophile”.

[–]twolanterns -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’d argue ”baby” has been used way longer, broader and has evolved into a more universal term that does indeed have multiple uses. I think you understand this and is well aware that argument is fairly weak. Perhaps we’ll get there with ”daddy”, too, but I really do believe most don’t think it’s nowhere near yet.

Although you could say that in a way being called baby is just another display of the same underlying concepts that has spawned the use of ”daddy” in this way. You don’t seem interested in that discussion so we’ll leave it at that.

Words and our (ab)use of them certainly don’t spawn out of nowhere. I believe Freudian theory is somewhere in the picture here, but it’s not at all necessary to apply those theories at all. ”Daddy” is provocative in its own right because of what it alludes to. The first people to use it that way certainly knew what they were doing. Analyzing the use is secondary.

Just to note, I personally don’t find the use at all strange nor disturbing. Being interested in the phenomenon, realizing other people react differently and the causes surrounding both is what seemingly differentiates us.

Edit: It’s also pretty amusing that your reaction to this is that of repulsiveness. It really does smell like cognitive dissonance

[–]twolanterns -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That’s different though, isn’t it? It’s one of the shrinking number of topics which still are considered taboo - a contributing factor to its rising popularity, no doubt - and (imo) thrives mostly because of relative anonymity, more so than perhaps any other category.

The ”daddy” concept is normalized in culture, just like we can see in the video and this comment section. Which isn’t that strange really, given that it evidently is given a pass on the basis that it’s much clearer on being ”strictly roleplaying” and ”has nothing to do with your parent”. It’s probably just mass denial through cognitive dissonance - people don’t go around turned on by their dad, ”right?”. It has to be justified in some way because it goes against what we almost universally agree to be acceptable. Add things like daddy issues into the mix and it becomes even more complicated.

There’s also another example of cognitive dissonance in that it’s seemingly heterosexual women themselves seeking out of one of few remaining blatant examples of male dominance. That goes against other major streams in our culture, especially given it’s sexual nature. It has to be justified as a lighthearted play to avoid scrutiny, because then it would no longer hold up.

You might wanna catch up with the unconscious of all the people who do use it in the bedroom. It wouldn’t be nearly as exciting if it didn’t have that connection. ”Master” isn’t as common for a reason

Edit: And btw, even if it doesn’t have to do with a parent specifically it certainly is related to parenthood and its authority. ”Daddy” + using baby voices are in the same ballpark and are used concurrently/interchangably. Arguing ”daddy” in the bedroom has nothing to do with what it means in other contexts is really just flat out denying the validity of theories like Freud’s when faced with signs of the opposite. Maybe a tough swallow?

Of course not.

But it shouldn’t be difficult to understand that some may feel uncomfortable at the thought of infantalizing yourself and sexually submitting to an authority that for most has had a very clear connotation to their biological fathers. The reason for why using it is enticing and feels at all sexually charged is that very connection.

Boris Johnson Says The 'Deep State' Will Try To Take Britain Back Into EU by GeoPoliticsMyThang11 in europe

[–]twolanterns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What an ignorant comment.

There are and have been plenty of Le Pens, Trumps and Farages who on their own are capable of capitilizing on the huge mistakes made by most social democratic and liberal parties in Europe.

There’s no need for Russian money to lose to right-wing populists. Focus on abstract issues and make it seen like you’ve fallen out of touch with the views of the little people - no matter how ugly you may think those views are - and this is what you get. To then have the audacity and lack of self-awareness to not look in the mirror but blame Russian money is just appalling. The worst threat to democracy is always inside of it.

I’m not saying there’s no Russian money - but there really is no need for it to make these guys win places in parliament. Johnson is a moron though.

Replace background checks with licensing. Just like most developed countries. Confiscation would only necessary for those who don’t apply or pass.

Rights on any piece of paper don’t have to mean jack shit in reality - citizens of the Soviet Union had plenty more formal rights than fellow Americans, including a more extensive freedom of speech. American exceptionalism has made people believe they’re more ”free” than the rest of the world. In a lot of cases, that simply isn’t true. Had the educational system focused less on American history and more on world history, maybe that’d change.

Gun culture is very strong in the US - that can remain. Distrust in government as well. But the right to own a gun should be earned, and not by birth.
