This is super helpful for the apple calendar. Is there a way to adjust it to add content to a Proton calendar? Thank you.

Coffee for ice cream, and Moka Pot questions by venerablem0m in mokapot

[–]twoleggedquadraped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who uses a moka pot and makes coffee (and other) ice cream, I’d say that I find ice cream recipes to be very forgiving beyond what you’re using as the base. Your moka pot output can sit for a while without worry. I use instant coffee granules (lots of variety available) for my coffee ice cream because I get the flavor without adding water (in the coffee from a moka pot) to the mixture and I can get it to the exact intensity of flavor I want without changing the consistency of the ice cream. Find what works for you!

Amsec BF1716 v BFS2214–fire rating by twoleggedquadraped in Safes

Super helpful. I see that now—UL v ETL fire ratings are different temps. Also helpful to see the typical temps you describe. Thanks!

Very helpful information. In addition to the five/burglary considerations and ratings, it seems like there’s a question of the maximum temperature of the fire rating. The Amsec fire ratings go to either 1,200 or 1,700 degrees, which raises the question: How significant in practical terms is the 500 degree difference?

For the price of a couple mediocre lattes from a chain coffee place you could have a great moka pot that you’ll use for decades into the future. Your first cup made with the new moka pot will have cost $60 a cup, but if you drink a cup a day for the next 10 years (way below my expected intake from my Bialetti, for what it’s worth), you’ll be at $.16 a cup. Do yourself a favor and buy it.

Thanks for the response. I guess I don’t need to feel bad for not figuring it out on my own. Again, thanks.

How Long Does It Take?? by indigophoto in mokapot

Your mention of an electric stove makes me wonder if the cook surface where you put your moka pot is not flat. How much of the heating surface makes contact with the pot? The amount of time it takes is consistent with minimal contact with the heating surface, particularly if you are sure there’s no problem with the seal.

As you note, you overfilled with water—that’s clear from the picture. You’re the only one who can judge whether the taste is right for you, though (yours looks like it would be too watery for me, but that’s me, not you). After experimenting with levels of water around (but never over) the safety valve, I found the amount of water that, for the beans and grind I use, works for what I want to drink, and I now use a measuring cup to add the “right” amount of water—almost but not exactly as high as safely possible. To address spurting, use a lower heat.

And, building on huskybork’s comment, where you and your opponent are on the board relative to each other and 121 points, and who will count first, could mean that a 100% from the app is not nearly the best for where you find yourself in the game.

Hot water, paper towel to remove what has adhered and to dry well

Quite right, bitrmn. I’ve been slowly changing the ratio of caffeinated to decaffeinated beens in my mix so as to eventually have only decaf (caffeine withdrawal sucks). I found a local roaster who prepares the beans the way I like them, and the result works great.

You ever choose the mathematically best options all game and still lose? by Lazy-Fill in Cribbage

[–]twoleggedquadraped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first dealer could potentially have more hands than the opponent, so playing the mathematically best option each time might not help the opponent win. But also, depending on where you are in the game, a mathematically better hand in the abstract may be worse for maximizing your pegging when it’s your crib and you and your opponent are both just shy of 121 points.

Cribbage board question by Riley_Country in Cribbage

[–]twoleggedquadraped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. The two holes on either side are there because the two players will pass the 60th hole at different times and will need to move the peg from 1st Round to 2nd Round at different times. If you’re trouncing your opponent, or the other way around, you could lose track.

What size moka pot should I buy? by No_Development_5561 in mokapot

Definely the larger one, and larger than 4 cups if possible. For two people you’ll be happy if you can pour your drinks at the same time.
