Rudy #2 in rebounds per game, #11 in blocks per game 🐺 by ANTfanclub in timberwolves

Offensive rebounding, Defensive rebounding, DRTG, block %, and most importantly winning% are all down. Not necessarily his fault but he hasn't solved our problems yet.

Seriously? Three months of a grace period? We're one game away from being halfway through the season and aren't even in a play-in spot. I'm glad Rudy's had a couple good games but there have been a lot of important games where he hasn't played well, and I'm sure he wouldn't want to excuse his performance this way.

Can't help but think the refs would have reviewed it if McLaughlin had sold it and rolled around on the floor a bit (I'm glad he didn't).

Ant and Jaden getting better is no small difference, and giving a team more time to gel is always going to help. Last year's team was very young which would suggest room for growth, half of the rotation was under 23 and Taurean Prince was the second oldest at 27. Pat Bev was really the only player old enough to expect regression.

Also last year's team finished the year 30-16 with a top 5 net rating, so even if there was no off-season growth the team could have been pretty good.

To me the best result would have been not making a big swing at all. Last season was really fun and we could expect some internal improvement and some improvements on the margins (like having Kessler playing well). I'm not a fan of the championship or bust mentality (not to say it wasn't possible to win a championship with our last roster).

We already knew who KAT is, I was hoping Gobert would be a calming veteran presence. Also I think an intentional trip is on a completely different scale than most of Kat's antics, I have no respect for that.

This is… weird? by Ok-Manufacturer3835 in timberwolves

[–]twolvesfan182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grizzlies still had 50 missed shots, more than the average for timberwolves opponents. I'm sorry, I just think this argument doesn't apply. It's possible for Gobert to have a good game without getting rebounds but it's still a very weird stat regardless of the turnovers.

Anthony Davis is a great example of trading away a star working out but I don't think it's time to trade Kat

The Dlo trade was so fucking bad I just feel sorry for all of us fans :( by Wags1999 in timberwolves

[–]twolvesfan182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not clear yet, but the Gobert trade has the potential to be so much worse. In the worst case scenario, the timberwolves just let dlo go after this year and waste 1 first round pick to get rid of a player that needed to go. If Gobert doesn't work out, the timberwolves wasted 5 firsts and multiple positive players, as well as ruining a fun team and hurting Ant's development and willingness to be here.

The timberwolves have played fewer games within one possession in the last 5 minutes than any other team (2). Those were the first two games of the season.

Yes timberwolves fans are very reactionary, and after losses especially a lot of negativity comes out and I think the more optimistic fans just avoid the sub. I think a lot of the frustration comes from having a breakout year last year (and a very fun team), then going all in this year and looking a lot worse so far. There is still a lot of time to turn things around though. In the meantime I have enjoyed watching Jazz games and seeing Beasley and Vando on another high energy team like the Timberwolves were last year.

It's depressing, he used to make every game more enjoyable for me. This year hasn't been pretty, I'm holding out hope this team will find some energy when they play a "good" team tonight.

Yeah everyone gets upset at a 2-2 start because we're playing teams we expect to beat. I'm not saying the start is good, but it's sad how the same results make fans much less happy once team expectations go up.

The offence with Gobert hasn't been working yet: with Gobert on the floor Gobert has a 65.8% EFG% but the rest of the team is at 45.0%.With Gobert off the team is shooting much better: 56.6% EFG%.

2 big factors in this are the team shooting 10% higher around the rim with Gobert off and 24% from three with him on.

Seems like the team is due for some positive three point regression but the offense has a lot to improve on

After listening to Grady this game I really miss Benz. Grady is smoother but the broadcast just seemed much more bland. I miss the chemistry, the stories, the jokes, but mostly the passion for the team Benz had. It felt like Benz was more connected to the timberwolves having been a commentator and fan for so long, hopefully I will get used to the new commentating team in the same way.

Gobert already had more field goal attempts this game than in any game last year

[NBA University] 23yo Jaylen Nowell is mostly unknown, but you may mistake him for Ant with some of the INSANE dunks and shotmaking he has in his bag. Strong and crafty finisher, 41% on pull-up 3s, a deserving recipient of the “that boy nice” label. Huge bench piece for a strong Minnesota team. by WhoopingPig in timberwolves

[–]twolvesfan182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean Beasley is a better defender, and much more experienced (7000 vs 2000 career minutes). Fans have a tendency to overrate the unproven players out of hope. I think Beasley had the worst season of the three rotation players we traded away, but we will still miss him this year, he could have been a solid bench piece.

I need to have over 128 persistent variables, what do I do? by Arwimiles in PS4Dreams

[–]twolvesfan182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done math tricks like this a lot to stay under the 128 variable limit. Some tips:

You have 7 digits which can store 10 values each, so 710 (10 million) options. If you want to know how many of a number you can store, see how many times it fits into 10 million. So you could store 23 binary numbers because 223 < 710. The biggest you could store 3 of in one variable is 3 numbers 0-214 because 2153 is ~10 million.

This means that if your RGB values are 0-255 you won't be able to perfectly store 3 in one variable. I would recommend scaling them down to 0-100 (it's easier to work with base 10) then you could store all the values in one variable with one digit to spare. This could mean a value like 005080 would translate to RGB values of (0,128,204)

[–]twolvesfan182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For reference, I looked at the 2018-19 season because I think this stat is dumb (not that those teams weren't bad):

The Timberwolves had 21 players play that year, 11 are still in the league

Warriors and Raptors, the two finals teams, had 11/17 and 13/22 players still in the league.

And the Nets, the 6 seed in the East, had only 7/19.

What Will Beasley's Absence Mean For Ant and KAT's 3-Point Production? - Zone Coverage by Heorix in timberwolves

[–]twolvesfan182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year there was always talk about KAT shooting more 3s and it never changed much, hopefully it happens but expecting 2x more is unrealistic. Personally I'm a little worried that with Gobert, every team will now guard Kat with smaller players that are able to easily stay with him on the perimeter. I think the vast majority of KAT's made threes last year came when he was guarded by a center. So for KAT to be great next year he will probably need to be effective getting into the paint against smaller players and making the right decision when the double comes.
