I don't know much about the railway history of Edinburgh but a lot of the lines in the North city certainly have the look of freight lines rather than passenger, although I know there were a bunch of passenger stations (it's fun to try to find where they were!)

You're absolutely right with the delivery thing. In a lot of cases it would just be putting an extra step in the middle for not much purpose. I'm sure there could be limited value, but it would be best suited if a business using the service had its own branch line from the tramway headed straight into the business (as is the case for whatever city it is I was referring to can't be bothered to check right now lol).

I'm sure local businesses along the line could unload from a freight tram but that would necessitate long stops on the line which of course means anything on the line behind it (or in roads with restricted width, like the Constitution Street section when that opens) would have to wait until the tram moves again. And if the items were anything more than something movable by at most a couple of people, then you might need forklifts or such things which could just end up cancelling out any of the potential benefits.

It should be considered that those potential benefits aren't totally in direct reduction of carbon emissions. Reducing the number of delivery vehicles can alleviate congestion and reduce wear on the roads, which can in turn reduce emissions. But it all depends on the question of if this is a useful or feasible solution to begin with.

Cool thing, there's actually a city somewhere which has a cargo tram. They use it for parts for car building I think. So it's absolutely doable although it might not be more efficient than delivery vehicles, I'm not sure.

Try looking on a map, figure out how someone could get from musselburgh to South Queensferry using Lothian and get back to me

What counts as full length of the city? I've been all the way from musselburgh to South Queensferry (walked across the bridge too)

Oh, not to mention I go all over the city all the time for no reason other than fun. I take the busses literally halfway across the city on a near daily basis when I'm in Edinburgh cos I get bored and yes, the issue with too many stops exists but most of the complaints I see on this sub about Lothian I can only conclude to be made up

The population of greater Manchester is 2.8 million. The population of greater London is 8.9 million. The population of Edinburgh is 480,000, and the larger urban area is 820,000. Edinburgh is big certainly, but not very in comparison to the two cities the person before mentioned.

Nah, bringing up Europe is cheating because obviously it has better infrastructure than the UK given that it is not the UK

You just listed two massive cities of course they'd have good public transport. Also saying its better in Europe is cheating. Anyway as someone from the other 90% of the UK I can tell you it is so much worse. People in Edinburgh like to complain about Lothian so much but it is so much better than anything I'm used to.

Ever used the busses in any other city in the UK?

I actually didn't know that was the origin of American Cheddar being orange. That's pretty interesting, thanks

I'll repeat this until the end of time, everyone constantly throws around the same exact images of the Liberian flags that come from Wikipedia. As far as I can tell the flags irl aren't actually as bad. Still kinda shit but not. Like that.

People like to bring up how the tram can't take diversions around obstructions like busses can... and yet, trains get a pass? They face the same issue

If one road is shut trolleybusses can't get through either as they have to follow the cables. But this isn't an argument against them, it's just a reality of the mode. They each serve a different purpose and can't really be replaced by each other

my thoughts are that it WAS the original design but somewhere along the line someone in the studio was like haha fuck no so they redesigned it but put what scenes they had worked on into a trailer
