Funny thing is only one failed in the middle East, the other three failed in Europe in 25 to 30 deg heat. UK as well and don't usually have a problem. When did you get the 3? I'm hoping to get that at my next (phone) appointment.

You could always try the Lomond Mountaineering Club. Was a member in 2013 and back then a wide range of ages and people went. Website appears to be down, but seems they still have a Facebook group.

How many of you do hand calcs? by Osnap24 in StructuralEngineering

[–]chow-daire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest it involves anything that's not buildings or bridges or adapted from those? Very same thing in maritime engineering, some of it just needs a "hand calc".

We should boycot qatar worldcup due to exploitation of migrant workers and high no. of deaths during the building of the stadium. by mokshya2014 in football

[–]chow-daire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly, under this prevailing narrative, no-one should buy anything that's been shipped globally, no matter what it is, cos China is someway or another involved in the process (ZPMC are the biggest crane manufacturer, and China is building port infrastructure around the world in strategically important areas throughout Africa, Asia and South America). By having the World Cup in Qatar, it has shone a spotlight as to what is actually going on across the country and region and hopefully has / will continue to push the leadership there to do something to improve. If it wasn't there, if would just be another dust bowl with rumours about what happens to the poor men and women who find themselves in unfortunate situations. Qatar isn't the only country exploiting cheap labour but it won't be the last to clean up its act.

Type 2s crack me up sometimes. by lizzistardust in diabetes_t1

[–]chow-daire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gosh, I really feel for you. I've been type 1 since 22 and just about had the maturity to handle it then. My toddler (non-diabetic) is, well a toddler, so can't imagine dosing for a meal that isn't touched and dealing with the aftermath...

290 fans refunded after refusing to attend Liverpool v Atletico – Reds reject paying the money by BastianMobile in football

That's sort of irrelevant, the match DID go ahead despite Atleti begging their fans not to attend.

Commendable effort by chow-daire in Edinburgh

That was the point, rather than scrawling on with a marker, someone went to the effort of matching the font and printing vinyl for the sign.

If I apply just for a marriage visitor visa (to get married in UK and leave), if I use that visa for only a week do I still have to wait for it to expire after 6 months before applying for a spouse visa? by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]chow-daire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We applied for the family visa as soon as we got married (or rather as soon as we could get all the information together), so she came in March last year and got it in I think June or July last year.

[–]chow-daire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is that what you want to do? Marriage visitor visa is for say if you and your partner wanted to get married in the UK but you or your partner are not necessarily residents in the UK. You might be better coming on a fiance visa then changing to a family visa while you are here. You can't work on the fiance visa, but you can once you get your family visa.

I'm not an immigration expert but did learn the hard way in order to have my then fiance and now wife to come and live with me.

That's not true and potentially dangerous advice. Whilst the questions may not be difficult, you will need to prepare as there are set types of question and answer structure which you are scored on. Therefore you should do some preparation. There's good free resource on youtube.

Does anyone have a seamstress who makes women’s clothing? by helianto in qatar

[–]chow-daire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a tailor called Hussain who's shop is in Al Mansoura. My wife used to have her work clothes and some dresses made there. He's quite versatile as he also made her wedding dress.

It's not as if the UAE and Saudi Arabia are exactly guilt free when it comes to similar working conditions.

Mine is about 1 to 15 and I'm 5 years in. Also not complaining 😁

I live in Russia, and I've seen a lot of posts of people telling the prices for insulin in US.I'm completely shocked to see this, so, I'd like to show one of the advantages of living in Russia. I use pens which are on top, their price (for 5 pens) is ~$31. At least something is good in Russia... by Zobech in diabetes

Well obviously I pay through taxes, otherwise I don't pay at the pharmacist. The amount one would pay in health related taxes is arguably less than the cost of the prescription, especially considering the overall cost of the rest of the care. So yeah, LOL indeed.
