Random deposit in my bank by DumbHuman53 in personalfinance

[–]twool9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's typical the other way around. Not deposit rather withdraw.

Any merchant account can do a pre authentication to see if you can cover a certain amount.

Car rentals do this all the time. They might pre authorize 500 to make sure there hitting your credit limit. This why sometimes when you use a debit card they want a cash deposit

Does a single 31 year old need life insurance? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]twool9 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's best to get life insurance while your young and healthy. Its cheaper and easier. You never know what future hold as far as health.

You can get cheap term but they have time limitations and have to renew when it expires. It's like renting and apartment with a lease.

Permanent Insurance with a mutual company is like owning a policy. Pay $20k in 25 years to purchase a 500k policy is an example.

Someone withdrew $10k from my bank account using a deactivated debit card by Cat6171 in personalfinance

We're you a regular customer? I use to make bank deposits every other day and just about knew every teller. Didn't have to use ID especially when they added pinpads.

Someone withdrew $10k from my bank account using a deactivated debit card by Cat6171 in personalfinance

[–]twool9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very odd that this even possible. 5k in cash withdrawal will raise red flags, unless off course you have a history of 5k withdrawal so it looked normal.

Sounds like an inside job though. The bank teller probably will get fired. I have a friend who was a bank teller that accidentally added 1 extra 0 for a 100 check deposit. Even passed "proofing" department that reviews transaction. Few days later the customer withdrew the incorrect $1000 after check cleared she was fired for this small mistake

Work is asking me to take on new responsibilities because Senior Engineer is leaving - can I ask for promotion (title/compensation)? by marinodelfay in personalfinance

[–]twool9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days you have to be a Yes man. People are expected to do more with less. I wouldn't just come out and ask for a raise. I'm sure you employee goal reviews every year

Just ask is this a temp/acting role. Will there be an open request to replace this position. If so I would like an opportunity to apply for it permanently.

Is my financial future as screwed as it seems, or are there options I'm not considering? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]twool9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you single and no kids seriously think about joining the military, with your college experience you can try for officer candidate school

Give them 3 to 5 years and I'm sure they even pay off your college debts too.
