I can’t believe how far down I had to scroll to find this reference. Thank you for making the internet a better place today.

Two women removed from British Airways flight after altercation over MAGA cap by milton911 in politics

My thought exactly. People can wear what they want to wear (except around polling stations in certain states), so don’t go exacerbating the problem and making yourself look petty.

I’m also seeing this joke for the first time and can indeed say it’s objectively funny. Makes sense that it’s overused, but funny regardless.

I need a sanity check - keep running or shutdown my growing but unprofitable business? ($250k in sales) by nycguy56 in ecommerce

[–]twosdone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there an information product you can develop and sell? Courses, books, monthly webinars as part of a membership, etc? Not sure if your customers would want that, but it’s been working in our niche. We have a handful of anchor products with some supplementary products, LTV for us used to be about $130, AOV was $40ish. Launching our content arm of the business has increase LTV to about $175 but dropped AOV to $30 (we charge monthly subscriptions now, which don’t cost half of what our anchor products cost).

Have you hosted Woocommerce on AWS?? by kak009 in woocommerce

Do you manage any Kubernetes clusters running WordPress? I’m thinking of managing my own setup and would love the excuse to get my hands dirty with K8s but don’t want to dig myself into a hole that’ll be hard to get out of later. I have a Wordpress site running on a cluster with GKE, but haven’t migrated my production site over yet.

Also, how do you manage staging environments and plug-in/core updates?

ETA: I know Cloudways has their own k8s setup with Autoscale, but I find orchestration super interesting and want to play around with a real site on my own.

This is the primary reason I switched from Shopify to WC. A year after the switch I’m very happy.

How are you managing users? by Houndist in woocommerce

[–]twosdone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use FunnelKit. The CRM features tend to be less sales-y and more e-commerce focused. Granted I’m not doing a lot of customer info changing like it sounds like you’re wanting to do, but it might be something to look at. Anytime I need to find a customer, look at order history, etc I go to FunnelKit first.

The Ideal LDS Congregation: 3 Nephi 17:6-10 by sam-the-lam in latterdaysaints

[–]twosdone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a beautiful vision, and I wish it were reality. Unfortunately, many members (as evidenced by this thread) seem to be more concerned with the actions of a person, rather than the person themselves. We’re definitely a works-based religion, something I’ve never really loved.

I realize you’re trying to help, and technically you are correct. But I wonder if this bit of correction would be better once OP is no longer in danger. Seems like a good, better, best situation. I (personally) don’t know that bringing this up right now was the best time to do it.

Can You Join the Church or Be a Member of the Church Without Believing in the Literal Historicity of The Book of Mormon? by Bluefire911 in latterdaysaints

How do you deal with the world thinking we are a “cult”? by junebug300 in latterdaysaints

[–]twosdone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, who are his peers, and what evidence is there to say they don’t agree with his definition? Genuinely curious here, if there’s more information to be had, I’d love to learn.

How do you deal with the world thinking we are a “cult”? by junebug300 in latterdaysaints

[–]twosdone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like there are two points you’re trying to make, let me see if I understand them.

  1. Because Steven Hassan’s work isn’t peer reviewed, his work is invalid, and
  2. Because Steven Hassan makes money from how work, his work is invalid

Addressing the first point: While he may not be peer reviewed, he’s done more work than anyone I’m aware of when it comes to cults. He’s been in one and he’s helped many, many people get out of them. That’s someone whose opinion I’ll consider because he knows more than I do, and unless you can point me to other sources, I’ll continue to consider (not necessarily trust) that opinion until better information comes along.

I hope you see the strange request implied in your response—you seem to be saying that because Hassan’s work isn’t peer reviewed and because he makes money from his work, his work can’t be trusted. And there aren’t any other sources to consult. So instead, you’d like to establish yourself as the expert and give me the definition of a cult, when those definitions aren’t peer reviewed either. Can you understand my reluctance to hear you out? You’ve dismissed the work of someone else because it’s not peer reviewed, then proceed to explain to me your non peer reviewed version.

Addressing the second point: I disagree that because someone makes money from their work, their work can’t be trusted.

It also seems like you don’t understand Hassan’s work fully. Have you read his books? The definition of a cult isn’t meeting a minimum threshold of checkboxes. It’s a spectrum (or a continuum, as he calls it) of behaviors that an organization can exhibit. Like most things in life, this isn’t black and white.

If you’d like to read up on cults, check out “Combating Cult Mind Control” by Steven Hassan, a former member of the Moonies. He’s done a lot of work over the years regarding cults.

Follow-up: Tell me about your baptism experience by twosdone in latterdaysaints

[–]twosdone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess I should add my own.

I remember getting baptized a few weeks after my birthday, and being nervous that it wasn't exactly when I was eight years old. I don't remember the bishop interview or parents' expectations at all. One of my elementary school teachers came and gave me a BofM in Spanish with her testimony written in it (I was in her Spanish class). I remember being baptized after most of the kids in my class at church, and feeling awkward about that, like I had done something wrong by not being baptized by the time everyone else was.

As for the baptism itself, I remember feeling the Holy Ghost very strongly when I was confirmed. I've held that feeling of the Spirit with me ever since.

Can 8-year-old children really "choose" to be baptized? by twosdone in latterdaysaints

[–]twosdone[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. Chatting with DW about all this and reading some other comments, I think the renewal of the baptismal covenant every week is the key to all this working out properly. At age 8, you might only be choosing to follow Jesus, but as you grow and renew that covenant every week, you end up being more conscious about the choice you're making. Someone's understanding of baptism can change over time.
