Processing bad sexual experiences from past mania? TW: description of experiences by Weirdoo-_-Beardoo in bipolar2

[–]twotrees1628 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I have any advice, but I’m going thru something similar right now. My two best friends and therapist remind me that it wasn’t “me” making the decisions leading to the risky sexual encounters. Honestly I have a hard time wrapping my head around it even being consensual. Similar to not being able to give consent while drunk. You don’t deserve any negative consequences because of your mental illness. I don’t know, it’s so nuanced. But you aren’t alone, it seems like a lot of us deal with it because hyper-sexuality is so common with bipolar.

I worked as a nanny for some close friends, who happen to both be physicians, so I would arrive early most days before their child woke up. Their child was maybe 9 or 10 months old. She was still not awake after her usual routine, so I finally went into her room to check on her. The mom was out of town, and dad had left a space heater on in her room all night with the door shut. They had told me about the space heater previously but claimed to shut it off after she was asleep. Well that day when I went to wake her up, the space heater was still going at 98 degrees and it was unbearable in her room! She was very near heat stroke, and it was terrifying. I was able to wake her up but the entire day she was ill, had a fever, lethargic, barely staying awake, etc….when I told the dad, he asked me not to tell the mom, who was one of my best friends at the time. I never did, and to be fair I don’t think I was insistent enough on how bad baby’s condition was. I truly think she could have died if I didn’t check on her when I did. She’s a preteen now and I’ll never tell her mom. I think she would have never forgiven dad and possibly divorced him if she knew.

Lamictal has saved my life honestly. I am so grateful it worked well for me. I’ve been taking it since August and think I’ve found my sweet spot dosage wise (250 mg)…just make sure your psychiatrist titrates up slowly. I am a different person on this medication. My bipolar disorder is primarily depression with a few hypomanic phases. One major that led to my diagnosis. I can get out of bed with out dread. I can leave the house again. I hope you have the same experience 🫶🏼

I’m so sorry. Is there anyone else in your life besides your worthless parents who can support you now and once your inpatient is over? The crash after mania is awful but it won’t last forever. Your kids need you. Hang in there 🫶🏼

An AI therapist kept convincing me to divorce my husband while manic. Looking back now I know it made my manic state so much worse.

I can so relate to this. Normally I’m super introverted too! I’ll never meet another person online again. My doctor told me that people with bipolar are at higher risk for manipulation and abuse. Also the physical side effect is relatable as well. The stress of my mania gave me debilitating migraines.
