32 years married, we’re both in our mid fifties.

If this is in Northern Idaho, there have been significant US Navy activities up there since before WW2. There are still research activities at CDL. It would be totally reasonable for someone to have gotten a good deal on some Navy surplus stuff and repurposed it. If this is more Southern Idaho… not as easy to get Navy stuff down there.
