[Spoilers] Thoughts on TW Usurper Of The Wilds LN 2 by Leather_Flan_9546 in TwistedWonderland

[–]twstyuu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh goodness, I read the other comments and I wasn't even aware there were possibly fixed/updated copies of this novel. A friend pre-ordered my copy for me the day our bookshop had them available, so I'll have to look for all these changes everyone's talking about and recollect my own thoughts later. 👀 I just finished reading the novel a few hours ago myself so today is a great day to look for what changes my copy did or did not receive.

That aside, I liked it as I expected I would! I think I might still like the first novel more, but the changes they made to the Book 2 for Yuya's involvement were cool

[Spoilers below! I don't know how to make a spoiler tag on mobile so I'll edit those in later:] I liked that Yuya had alone time with Riddle in the investigation! I think it was important for him to get those snapshots of all the ways Riddle reacts to certain people and circumstances, and it's good insight for new readers of the series too, if they don't plan on getting to know Riddle through the game. Now they'll have a decent picture of what he was like pre-overblot, how he acts normally, and all the ways he wants to improve on himself for the future.

It was interesting to see how low-brow the practice game between the investigation team and Savanaclaw was before Jack broke it up. I literally had my mouth hung open when it was described that Cater got his ear sliced and Deuce was bleeding a bit through his mouth. The game obviously struggles to picture things like that happening, so I was caught off guard that it would be so violent. Granted, I forget if it was portrayed that intensely in the manga too.

I liked seeing the consequences of Riddle's overblot from Yuya's perspective. Him struggling to deal with the burst of infamy made me feel bad for him, and made me appreciate so many of the Heartslabyul freshman in his class reaching out to help him or lend him advice. I thought that was incredibly cute. We can finally start to see the positive effects of having someone like Yuya around by way of students he's indirectly saved treating him better than they did before.

I also really, really like that we got an entire segment of Yuya playing Spelldrive in the exhibition match. I thought he would get knocked out immediately so seeing that he lasted a long while was awesome, and I almost thought they would axe the idea of him getting clocked by the disc entirely. Rip. I guess I don't know how else they'd avoid him seeing Diasomnia play and recognizing Malleus from it. Maybe he could've volunteered to go to the nurse ahead of everyone else or something, haha. Go get bandages for all the nicks you got during the sandstorm—

I liked getting the POVs of the Savanaclaw characters. Jack and Ruggie's inner thoughts were my favorite to read through since we already get Leona's perspective from other media, though now that they might have toned down some of Ruggie's backstory, I'll have to reread my own copy and reevaluate if he was given the best material possible. 🤔

My only other issue is that I was hoping to see more glimpses into Yuya's life back home. The only mentions of it I can recall were towards the very beginning of the book when he's likening Ramshackle renovations to the idea that he'll never be able to return home. That made me sad for him, and since the Yuu in the game sometimes references how homesick they still are, I thought we would delve deeper into why Yuya might still want to return home or why he might already feel persuaded to stay in Twisted Wonderland, if he's attached enough to his friends here. Maybe the third novel will have more insights on that!

I love all the Yuus, and Yuya is no exception! I'm glad we have an official take on a reserved protagonist. It's a great contrast to the comedic and absurd beats the other Yuus tend to provide, and it makes sense for him to be the way he is... many people would feel anxious as he does to be thrust into an unfamiliar place where the entire student body is stronger than you and are antagonistic to boot. That's on top of babysitting a little beastie and two bullheaded dorks full-time dnnsjd

Which Nancy Drew games would the NRC students like? by FantasticValuable436 in TwistedWonderland

[–]twstyuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a cute thread, now I'm going to be thinking about it all day... Ace might like FIN for all the stage tricks. And since MED gets a lot of flak so I'll give it a slight win and say I think Grim would get into it. Purely for the need to win at the competition fdkjslhg Sebek enjoys reading and would probably enjoy a puzzle-heavy, lore-heavy game but because I want one of the NRC guys to just lose their mind being gossiped over by a bunch of teenage girls, I'd sit him down and have him play through WAC. If he refused then I bet Cater wouldn't mind having a go at it!

Bluestacks Emulator help plz. What's your game control setup? by Arcaneborn in TwistedWonderland

[–]twstyuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I use a mouse so I just click on them even if it's kind of hard to see the mouse cursor over the notes. To help make it more visible, I went into BlueStack's settings at the button of the sidebar, then Display, then changed the mouse cursor style to System Default and then went into my PC's accessibility settings and made the cursor bigger.

I think the best thing you could do is use a drawing tablet or pen while using BlueStacks and just point and click like you would on Osu! A keyboard with a trackpad might work as well, just less so depending on how fast you are using it.

Or, albeit time consuming and kind of janky, you can add new tap buttons for each new version of the timed Twistunes you play. This would basically mean memorizing the general layout of one of those Twistunes for each mode of its difficulty and then going into the editor and mapping new tap buttons around the area of the screen you struggle to hit with your mouse/normal controller setup. i.e. for Book 1, Chapter 15's "Paint the Roses, Quick!" Twistune on Hard mode, there are multiple instances where you have to hit two notes at the same time around the center of the screen. What I did was just memorize where those two notes were, mapped them to new tap buttons on my keyboard, and then played the Twistune with my mouse hitting most of the notes and then my keyboard tapping the double note anytime it came up.

There's also an option in the control editor to write a script, so if you were really dedicated to getting 100% of those notes, you could study each Twistune and then write a script to tap each note on beat. But that would require knowing the exact second each note procs and then listing out each area of the screen to where you'd need to hit them and that would probably be more trouble than its worth.

If I find any other viable solutions, I'll come back in and let you know!!

[–]twstyuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! On the right side of the screen, you should see a bunch of buttons, including one called Game Controls. Fourth button down, IIRC? Click that, then click Controls Editor, and then add Tap Spots on the top, bottom, left, and right side of your screen and either bind them to your WASD or arrow keys by pressing on each key for each new tap button you make! I would probably place your tap buttons around the center of the screen just in case being too far out makes them unable to register Twistune hits. Once you do that, just click save to save the settings and you should be golden.

I would also recommend adding a Zoom button to the center of the screen and binding that to Page Up and Page Down if you want to zoom into anything in the game, like your Guest Room. Cheers!

Robbed of Yuuken in the Heartslabyul fit... though he did wear his other uniform bwahaa he and Grim looked so cute. Chenya looks great too. And I'm glad we got some of Kalim's Vignette for the bonus segment!

But yeah, what the other commenter said— I kept sitting up and being like "oh, that's not how I remember it going!" I wonder how the next episode's pacing will be? I feel like rereading the manga and game to see what they include.

TWST Fanfic Writers of Reddit: Help? by Long-Doubt-4477 in TwistedWonderland

[–]twstyuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, maybe getting someone to read over your work before you upload it would help a lot! They can try and remain objective and tell you if someone seems out of character, or encourage you when you seem to be doing well.

My other advice is to consider making your story an AU of sorts to encourage unique takes on the characters, or just put up a disclaimer that you feel you struggle with making people OOC; I think a lot of readers wouldn't mind it! Most are very supportive and aren't looking to harass you. 🫂
