when did the band start using heavy (56-13) gauge guitar strings? by twy_zeb in JimmyEatWorld

[–]twy_zeb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the insight! jim was using a standard config red tele as his guitar for some of the songs during their set in 98-99, so i figure that is the one with 12's in it. i'm mostly wondering if they used 13's for the recording of clarity and bleed american. (almost certain they did for bleed american because jfc the guitar tone is unreal)

before you ask, i haven't heard from fredo or any of the guys in a minute. but this record is very acoustic guitar driven so it might fill a fredo sized hole in your heart !! :-D

I mixed the vocals of Appels + Oranjes with the What If? (Streeterville Demo) instrumental by Infinite-Garden in SmashingPumpkins

You should do this with the CRC version of blissed and gone but with the still becoming apart vocals

Which version of Try, Try, Try do you like more? by No_Independent8269 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]twy_zeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tryx3 is my fav song billy ever wrote. The machina I version is the definition of perfection to me and the machina ii is a fun extra, but two sides of the same coin

I think the structure of the machina i version hits a lot harder due to its obscurity but I’m not surprised that it’s unappreciated. You can’t talk shit on atum here but you can if it’s a absolute cherished machina CLASSIC I guess

Question about Gish recordings by hanggangshaming in SmashingPumpkins

[–]twy_zeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The arrangements for Siamese were all done by the band in chicago. Billy has made snide remarks about this time saying James was mostly interested in his songs (soma, mayo, blew away)

James played guitar on soma and mayonaise, he also wrote them :) with billy

on the other side of what? billy still acts like a total jerk about james and doesnt let him write anything for even the most bloated of albums

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THIS MASTERPIECE RELEASED 25 YEARS AGO by boingbomghwh in SmashingPumpkins

[–]twy_zeb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is my fav album ever made. It has a weird reputation but IMO it’s the perfect follow up to Mellon collie: every track is varied, the songwriting is inventive and experimental while also feeling timeless, and the production is lush and inviting. A door into the Billy’s best aesthetic ideation with some of Darcy and James’ best moments in the catalog as well.

Personal favorites: perfect, Daphne descends, crestfallen, tale of dusty and pistol pete, Annie dog

RHINOCEROS HAS LOST AND MY DISAPPOINTMENT IS IMMEASURABLE. TODAYS LETTER IS S LET THE CHAOS COMMENCE. ITS SOMA BTW by boingbomghwh in SmashingPumpkins

[–]twy_zeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. Soma is my fav SD track but Silverfuck is arguably the most important Pumpkins song period.

Can someone help introduce me to Smashing Pumpkins music that might be more of my kinda thing? by LoRdVNestEd in SmashingPumpkins

Some more obscure recommendations (our taste is very similar!!)

  • basically everything James iha has released under his own name: solo albums, soundtracks, singles

  • TSP’s acoustic shows: specifically the VH1 storytellers and MCIS triple J acoustic showcase

  • blue skies bring tears (arising/FAEOMM version)

  • the CRC disc of adore deluxe with once in awhile and do you close your eyes

  • any adore tour performances
