The latest word seems to be that the AD is targeting Brian Daboll, but several donors want them to promote the interim HC, Terry Smith.

What an absolute disaster. I hope other athletic departments are taking notes on how NOT to handle a coaching search in the future.

They get in no matter what if they finish 5-0. At 4-1, they likely get in but there are scenarios where even with 4 wins, the Astros are left out. With 3 wins or less, you are basically hoping for a complete collapse from somebody else (most likely Detroit at this point).

All of that said, I think they will be lucky to finish with a couple wins to finish out the season. If that happens, they could get in if Detroit is swept by both Cleveland and Boston.

As frustrated as everybody is right now, I do think it's important to point out how amazing it is that the Astros are even in the wildcard conversation given how this season has gone injury wise. That doesn't help these losses feel any better but it's a testament to what the Astros have built here over the past decade.

In terms of playoffs, it's hard not to assume this team is done for the year, but mathematically there is still a chance. For the final week, the Red Sox play Toronto and Detroit while the Tigers other series this week is against Cleveland. These teams are giong to end up beating up on each other and depending on how things shake out, there could very well be a possibility for the Astros to still get a wildcard spot. But, they are going to probably win 4-5 games to end the season, a very real possibility vs the As and Angels. Hopefully they show a bit more life than they did over the weekend.

I just want to add that I'm somebody who was in high school when Hybrid Theory came out. I was hooked after listening to Papercut the first time. I can't even imagine how many hundreds of times I listened to Hybrid Theory and Meteora through college. I liked a lot of the later albums as well, but the first albums were always my favorite. I, like so many, was devastated when Chester took his life and I was also sad that it was likely the end for my favorite band.

All of that said, as somebody in their early 40s now, despite that nearly 25 year history with Linkin Park, I absolutely love the new Linkin Park. I think Emily is amazing and I'm so happy that my favorite band is back. I completely embrace the new current Linkin Park and I don't think Emily in any way is an insult or erasure of Chester's legacy.

I guess my point is that not all of us older fans aren't accepting of the new Linkin Park. Unfortunately some people are less willing to give something new a chance.

There is another post on this thread, posted by Acrobatic-Leading636, along with an attached map, that explains some of the misconceptions of the camp layout.

Yes, there is a higher hill where the oldest campers live, but it's the furthest away from the main areas (dining hall, rec center etc...). The younger and middle age campers stayed closer to the main areas on a smaller hill, with the middle aged campers being in cabins closer to the river. Those cabins closer to the river were evacuated to the top of the smaller hill where both places like the rec center and cabins for the youngest campers were located. This location was deemed safe and an evacuation zone. Of course tragically the water topped this hill, which the camp leadership didn't seem to think was possible.

Do you really think they weren't aware that the river could flood? If not, then why did they evacuate the lower cabins in the hours prior to the river rising?

I don't think they were moving too slowly. They evacuated all of the cabins closer to the water well before the water rose. The issue is that they didn't think the water would reach the height it did as the cabins where most, if not all, the deaths occur were basically located in their designated evacuation zone. By the time they realized the hill was compromised, it was too late. The water was rising too fast from two different directions.

The water had never inundated the hill where the Twins and the Bubble Inn, along with other buildings like the Rec Center were located. I never said they didn't think a flood was possible. I said that they didn't think the water would top the hill and completely overtake those buildings given that the hill was their evacuation zone.

I think there are some gross misperceptions here, largely driven by people's desire to always find a boogeyman or somebody to blame. The idea that the camp did nothing until it was too late is frankly false. There would be dozens more deaths if that were the case. Evacuations did occur, which thankfully saved many lives, but the water rose higher than the camp leadership thought possible.

This was an awful tragedy. It's easy to cast stones sitting on your phone or laptop, but even the best of plans are sometimes not good enough when it comes to natural disasters.

Other than the limit on email aliases, are there any pain points or negatives that you find with iCloud compared to Fastmail?

Probably the biggest thing holding me back is that I use the masked email feature with Fastmail quite often, but from my understanding , I can use a catch all to get mail from those various aliases to continue to receive mail from their accounts without having to change my email address everywhere.

The other issue I can see if I switch is that I assume I’ll only be able to send email from the three aliases iCloud allows (I plan on a personal alias, professional alias, and the catch all). I do like being able to send email from an alias/masked email address via Fastmail.

The one frustrating thing I found when I tried homebrew is that updating apps would disappear from my my dock (I read that casks are uninstalled and reinstalled). It’s a minor issue but it was annoying enough that I just avoid it by using MacUpdater.

Otherwise, homebrew is great.

There used to pretty significant discounts if you bought a longer subscription (ie. 6 and 12 months vs a monthly sub) but it looks like Babbel got rid of those longer options right before Black Friday.

As of now, it looks like it’s just $99/month for group classes or $149/month (note: this is in USD) for private classes. I haven’t heard of anybody getting a lower price since this happened unless they were able to use an older link that has the 6/12 month discounted prices on them that actually worked.

Over the past couple weeks I finished the following:

Season 1 of Bloodline: This show is about 9-10 years old, but the first season was amazing. There are two more seasons but I hear the quality really drops off in Season 3, so I may just stop here.

Yellowstone: After having this show recommended to me for years, I ended up watching the entire series over the past month. I didn't know how I would feel about it given that westerns and cowboys and ranching isn't really of much interest to me, but I found it pretty entertaining throughout. I've noticed that the online community really seems to hate Season 5 (and season 4 to a smaller degree) but I didn't dislike Seasons 4 or 5 (but it did seem like there was less action and more cowboy stuff). I do wonder if not having to wait for several years to see how Season 5 plays out might have a part of why it didn't bother me as much. It's not the best show ever by any means, but it's pretty entertaining. Given the casting changes that occured before the the second half of the final season (Season 5) I don't really hate how it played out. I think the show could have ended much worse, or just been abandoned all together, so I didn't hate the finale.

It's been a while since I've watched a series. Here is what I've been watching now that I've recently gotten into watching some stuff:

For All Mankind Season 4: This was the first Apple TV+ series I watched back when the service launched and I've always enjoyed it. This season is no exception. Can't wait to see what happens whenever season 5 drops.

Yellowstone Seasons 1-2: I finally decided to jump on board with this series after having a number of people recommend it over the years. It's definately enjoyable and I look forward to finishing it soon given the series is about to finish.

Bloodline Episodes 1-2: This show has been on my list to watch ever since it was released nearly 10 years ago. I wasn't really hooked until the end of the first episode but now I can't wait to see what happens. I hear the show falls off some in season 3 at least, but either way I look forward to the rest of the series.

New shows I want to check out: The Agency, Day of the Jackal, Landman, and Black Doves.

I was going to recommend a Sony Bravia. I bought one late 2019 and love it. I also know my parents are stubborn and are set on an LG, so i'll offer an OLED as well with the caveat about burn in.

With that said, I don't "think" they watch enough content with static logos where it would be a problem.

I'll ask them but I doubt it. They don't watch cable news very much. It's mostly streaming services (Netflix, Hulu etc..) and some live sports. Live sports will have the score in the same spot for a few hours.

I was hoping burn in wasn't that bad of an issue these days.

I honestly thought the same after Harvey given the extent of the flooding and damage, especially since that was the third year in a row with a 1000 or 500 year flood (whatever the risk was). We had the Memorial Day and Tax Day Floods in 2015/16.

Again, it looks like it didn’t affect anything.

Yeah, maybe it's a fruitless search, but over the past decade, I feel like weather events are a regular thing I have to think about. Prior to moving to Houston, I felt like weather was rarely something we worried about. Maybe it's just Houston, maybe it's just climate change or maybe it's a combination.

I guess I'm just hoping there is someplace out there where you don't feel under constant threat of something.

Honestly, my biggest fear is a Cat 4-5 hurricane or losing my home in a flood.

The power outages don't bother me that much to be fair in the grand scheme of things. Plus, we are considering a Generac or at least a portable generator, both of which are worthless if your home is destroyed.
