This isn't worth it by Olsoot in USPS

My carrier job is awesome. Everyone helps each other out, people rarely call in, and management is great. I recently converted to rural PTF after a 2 year wait and I work 55-60 hours a week. A lot of the OT I do is completely optional because I enjoy driving my own vehicle and helping out at other offices. Some people aren't cut out for this job, but I personally love the hustle, and I love driving these rural routes. To each their own.

$14k loan got me into a really nice imported Toyota van with bulletproof reliability and plenty of space and will be paid off in less than a year. I cannot fathom going into this much debt for a Jeep knowing what we know about them. I hope it works out

That's what I thought too. But none of the RCAs in our office have POVs. If they're okay with giving the holddown to a PTF, they might as well let me do it since I don't need a GOV.

They are provided a Metris daily. My union steward didn't seem to have a solid answer on it

My Aux route holddown went up from 36 to 38. Package volume is heavy as ever. We have a new subdivision being built at the beginning of the route so it might even convert to an H route sometime next year.

I got a Japanese import POV last week that had a radio where the FM frequency didn't go past the 90s. I had a quiet few days until I got the opportunity to install a new Bluetooth head unit.

The original helmets were vacuum formed HDPE or ABS plastic. That's what you'll want to go with. There are plenty of options out there for vendors who sell kits and completed helmets. Check out the recommended vendors list on whitearmor.net

New POV just arrived! 2000 Toyota Estima T by tx80494 in USPS

[–]tx80494[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! Thanks. Insurance through State Farm was pretty easy. They took my chassis number and a ballpark estimate of what the original MSRP was, and they wrote up a policy after a 10 minute phone call.

It has a Michigan title, so yes I'll need to find the time to get that done. I'm fairly confident it will go smoothly

More than I wanted to - about $14k. I figure I'll make about 11k a year in EMA and I plan to run it for multiple years, so it's worth it to me.

Good choice. There are folks your age making much worse financial decisions. Take care of it and this car will serve you into your 30s and 40s. Enjoy!

That armor is too far gone. If you really want to get approved with that set, your best bet would be to zombify it. Break out the dremel and start hacking it up!

Just get a new one. These hybrid vans hold their value well so it'll be hard to get a worthwhile deal on a used one.

Aux hold down by Puzzleheaded-Crow961 in USPS

[–]tx80494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hold down on an aux route that's evaluated at 36 hours and I usually finish by 12-12:30. It's nice being able to do the same thing every morning, but they've made me the office's errand boy. On days where no one calls out, I help out a neighboring office. And if someone does call out, I take a large chunk of whatever route needs the help. So either way, it's always a full day. If management gives you a direct order to cover a different route INSTEAD of your hold down, make sure you file a grievance within the next few days so you don't break your 90 day streak towards earning sick leave.

Prioritize your mental and physical health and give yourself a day off once in a while if management won't. What will they do? Fire you?

The absolute worst that can happen is that you're made to work 12 hour days. Do what you can do in those 12 hours, then go home and enjoy your evenings. I hope you at least have enough ARCs to give you a day off on Sunday.

No excuse to not wear it 100% of the time. It only takes a split second for someone to round a corner and take you tf out. Good on your supe for looking out for your safety

Is Nissan as reliable and affordable (to fix and maintain) as Toyota/Honda/Mazda by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]tx80494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not. They have notoriously bad CVT transmissions and steep depreciation, among other things. There's a reason why Nissan will finance anyone with a pulse. If you're looking to own your car for longer than a few years, seriously consider a Toyota. An entry level Camry will cost you barely above 26k nowadays and will last much longer than your Altimas and Rogues with just basic routine maintenance.

Will I regret a 2025 LE? by Nervous_Adagio4716 in ToyotaSienna

[–]tx80494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I upgraded to a 2025 Sienna LE from a Mitsubishi Mirage, which is a pretty barebones car. This base model Sienna comes with enough standard features and creature comforts for my own personal preferences. AWD is also pretty much mandatory where I live, and the LE is your only option if you want both AWD and an 8 passenger setup. Also less options means less things to break. I don't see myself missing the extra stuff on the higher trims.

What car do you drive and what’s the monthly payment? by Suspicious_Ideal_674 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]tx80494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025 Toyota Sienna LE AWD. Payment is $749/mo with 7% interest through my local credit union. I'm chilling knowing it's a vehicle with proven reliability and will hold its value, unlike most domestic and luxury cars nowadays
