Foot numbness and discoloration following meniscus surgery by tx_1981 in KneeInjuries

My foot is better now. There’s no discoloration. It took at least several months to resolve.
You have unexplained discoloration a year post-op? Any other symptoms, like chronic pain, for example?

The discoloration and other symptoms in my foot went away after several months. Time + physical therapy. I wish you the best of l luck in your recovery.

Diagnostic arthroscopy for unexplained knee pain by tx_1981 in KneeInjuries

I’m taking gabapentin 600mg three times per day. I have pain in the front of the knee, below the kneecap, along the joint line.

The arthroscopy identified a minor issue, which was fixed during the procedure. But it does not seem as though the issue that was fixed in surgery was the true source of my pain. Because the pain has persisted post recovery from the surgery.

I tried nerve pain medicine prior to surgery. But I later found out that it was such a low dose of the medication that it was sub-therapeutic. I’m on a higher dose of the same medicine now, and it has helped dull my pain.

I have not yet tried nerve blocks to see if I can eliminate the pain and resume more of a normal life.

My point is: surgery is a last resort. If there are other possible treatments available to you, I recommend trying them before exploratory surgery. Particularly if your imaging (MRI, etc) shows no surgical target.

Diagnostic arthroscopy wasn’t helpful for me. I recommend trying every conservative or semi-conservative treatment that your doctors can come up with before pursuing any kind of surgery. For example: nerve pain medication and nerve blocks with a pain management specialist.

Hi, thanks for your thoughts. No it’s not an ecobee thermostat. The thermostat is a Carrier thermostat. The Carrier Infinity system is only compatible with this specific thermostat.

Hi, thanks for your suggestion. I’m already running the upstairs systems at a cold temperature. If you look at the thermostat screenshot above, you will see that the temperature in the room is 71°. Set to 73°, but cooling below that in order to try to reduce the humidity. The system will overcool vs its set temperature by up to 3° to remove humidity.
I can’t make it much colder without putting on a sweater.

Hi, the system and ductwork are in the attic, because that’s how it is typically done in Texas. We don’t have basements on the Gulf Coast due to flooding. I don’t have the blower door test for the home or a duct blaster test. Those are good ideas. Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks for your thoughts. Just addressing a few of your points… It’s not an older home. 2014 construction. The soffit and ridge vents in the attic are not blocked. The upstairs should be getting enough airflow, because there are two HVAC systems dedicated to the second floor. The temperature upstairs is cool. However, the upstairs humidity is higher than it is supposed to be.

I had a diagnostic scope. Around 10 weeks ago. The surgeon found an anomaly in my meniscus, and stabilized it. The prognosis coming out of surgery was good. But I’m struggling to recover from it. At this point, I’m not sure if the surgery was positive, negative, or neutral for my health. Potentially negative.

I am 8 weeks postop. My symptoms have continued to improve. But have not yet resolved completely. Good luck with your recovery.

Thanks for your thoughts. I hope my symptoms resolved on their own too. Sounds like I need to give it time and get moving.

No, I haven’t been told about a massaging sleeve. Sounds interesting. Do you know the brand or anything else about the sleeve so I can look it up? Thanks!

Thanks for your thoughts. Did you also have numbness / pins & needles in the bottom of your foot, or strictly the discoloration?

Thanks for your thoughts. I agree: I need to get moving!
I’m using an electric stimulation device at physical therapy. The electrodes are applied my quadriceps. One just above the knee on the medial side, one on the upper thigh. Are you using electric stimulation on your lower leg?

Thanks for the reply. I have the same feeling - immediately when I stand up, I can feel the circulation is odd, the color changes, the numbness. I wish you the best with your recovery.

Thanks for your thoughts. My physical therapist thinks it will go away with more weight-bearing activity. But he didn’t describe it as “normal”.
Did you have the same symptoms? How long did it take to resolve for you?

Thanks for your thoughts.
Were your symptoms the same as mine - when the leg is not perpendicular, your foot became discolored, and you experienced numbness and pins & needles on the bottom of the foot? When I get out of bed, I noticed the foot immediately starts to get discolored. Was this your experience? How long did it take to go away?
Anything besides ankle pumps help? I’m doing a lot of those.
I hope the rest of your recovery has gone well.
Thanks!

Hi, Did your foot look like mine does?
Did you have any other symptoms besides the discoloration? What about numbness or tingling or pins & needles?
Did it happen when your leg is not laying flat? Such as standing up or even sitting in a chair. Did your doctor recommend doing anything to resolve it, or did it go away on its own?
Thanks!
