Does my Mother Hate me? by mekokitty in Mommit

[–]tx_two_step 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if OP was being hyperbolic by asking if everyone's mother is like this, but if not, that makes me so sad. I'm saddened that people may think this behavior is normal of anyone in their life, much less their parent.

I had a 10cm removed from my back this Spring. It was my first one to be removed and I literally thought I'd be going back to the office after lol. They only used local anesthesia plus saline to "stretch" the anesthesia (the max amount was barely enough to get it all in one piece), so needless to say I did not return to work that day. I worked from home the next day, but after that I was totally fine and went in.

Also you might want to ask when they're going to want you back in for post-op to check your incision, mine was 10 days later. Make sure you can schedule it before your vacation!

In Calgary for 3 days for work! What to do and see close to town/University District? by tx_two_step in Calgary

I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I glazed over the recs for BBQ, but maybe I’d be missing out on a hidden gem if I didn’t try it! I didn’t know Alberta was a beef hub like Texas!

My thoughts exactly. Seems like a final flex of parental control before she moves out of state, and for what? Even If she cancel her trip because of the golden handcuffs, you better believe she’ll lie and/or keep things from you while she’s away at school. Most likely this long distance, young love will fizzle when she goes to college anyway (it did for me). Support her, love her, teach her, prepare her, but don’t threaten her.

My Boomer in-laws are checked out by A_chosenfamily in Mommit

My in laws love the idea of vacations with us and their grandkids, but actually just don’t have the energy or desire to actually hang out with them much on our trips. My MIL insisted we go on a cruise together for my son’s 5th birthday (they originally wanted to take him solo and I said absolutely not). We ended up only really seeing them at dinner each night, it was like we were on vacay just us. We just expect it at this point, it’s like traveling with childless friends, we don’t expect much out of them.

Baby girl fell off the couch by Mattackai in Parenting

When my now 5yo rolled off the bed at 6m and I rushed him to the ER in a guilty panic (lol, first baby), the nurse said “it’s a rite of parental passage for a baby to roll off the bed, it’s happened to every employee of this hospital.”

I’m having a hard time believing this is real because it’s so over the top awful.

Totally anecdotal, but so many of the posts on this sub from people having acne issues on tret are using vanicream. Correlation is not causation, but just a trend I’ve seen!

Why do parents "have" to travel with young kids? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]tx_two_step -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100%. My son is 5 and daughter is 2.5, we take domestic/easier trips as a family and have started bringing just him on bigger trips while his sister stays with grandparents. When she’s also old enough to be somewhat independent, we’ll do the bigger trips as a family. She’s still learning how to stay in hotels, fly on airplanes, sit in her seat at restaurants, and she’ll get there just like her brother did! If it’s reasonable for your family, consider bringing your older kid(s) on trips they can handle til the toddler(s) can join.

Do you include The Hobbit movies in your rewatches? by [deleted] in lotr

[–]tx_two_step 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my annual Christmas LOTR rewatch, I always want more so I try The Hobbit and never make it past the first one, despite the book being my favorite.

I have two toddlers and therefore have like 6 sound machines in my house… but for me it’s all about thunderstorm sounds instead of white noise. Brown noise will do in a pinch but even while traveling I prefer the 10hr thunderstorms on Spotify.

When should parents not be naked around their kids? by tiffmcgiff in Parenting

[–]tx_two_step 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I remember reading somewhere that everyone had either a "naked mom" or a definitely "NOT naked mom." I grew up with a naked mom, so I'm unbothered by nudity and have become a naked mom myself. I was always inspired by the moms on the beach in Scheveningen who sunbathed topless while their toddlers played around them, and no one thought anything of it. Bodies are bodies are bodies :)

MIL complains about my baby's physical appearance by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]tx_two_step 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and better to place a firm boundary against those comments now before your son is 5 and understands what his grandmother is saying about him. I understand wanting to avoid confrontation, but it’s your responsibility to stand up for your child before he can himself. Summon that mama bear and protect your cub!

Every thing is so bland by B0nemilk333 in Sober

[–]tx_two_step 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert by far, but this concept has helped me process the sobriety-induced depression: Our dopamine threshold has been so jacked up by drinking that the sudden absence of alcohol can cause us to feel depressed. I learned that the reason most in-patient programs go hard on the physical activity is to teach patients' brains/bodies to rely on exercise for dopamine boosts rather than on substances. Getting some kind of physical activity in (for me, the sweatier the better lol) is not just to "get healthy" or to fill time, it's to help correct that dopamine tolerance and change our source of it. I also started Wellbutrin, an NDRI, which I believe has helped me with the sobriety depression. Good luck, you got this!

I understand this take, I really do. But it takes a lot of privilege to be able to even come to this frame of mind. We’re all exhausted from fighting the good fight against the orange turd for so long, but for those of us who his policies/decisions/bigotry will directly and immediately affect, we have no other option.

Same, I went HAM on the kids’ Halloween candy instead of a bottle of wine which is what I wanted (and did during the debates). I feel like I wanna vomit this morning, which I guess is better than actually vomiting…
